Turning to Adian, the storm warrior was curious as to his idea; "I'm not sure as to the [b:17hk1v52]how[/b:17hk1v52] part of your idea would work, but that is provided they don't decide to seek us out as another set of target's."

Catching Zarae's comment, he laughed; "yeah, and rain stone shrapnel down upon ourselves; I'll stick with the tried and true method of sword and shield, thank you."

"I don't think we need to hunt for foul yet," Adian murmured aloud, seemingly to himself. "I think we have other concerns at the moment."

"Well...if we were careful maybe we could face them away from one another or set the on the ground. Then when they recovered...welll, they would be disoriented I'd think. Unless they're some how...conscious."

He shivered visibly at the thought.

"I hope they aren't conscious, that would be truly terrible." Pwdn shuddered, she was also deliberately ignoring Zarae's comment since she had no response to it, even in humour. "Turning them around could damage them, chip the stone and leave them disfigured; I'll keep them apart as I must without risking harm to them." She looked about to her group, and looked at the statues again. There were ten on the wizard's side, and twice then on the other; thirty people to stop from fighting, but she trusted that they'd not wish to repeat the experience or risk worse, once they knew what had happened. "So if we're all ready?"

Frad was somewhat disdainful of Veraka's comment, shaking his head. "Can't trust anythin' about magic. It ain't natural, and nothin' natural can ever pin it down."

Zarae nodded. "what about a dispel magic? assuming their not more than living giant sized kids toys."

she followed, on horseback, the group twords the things

"Let's just leave the healing to Pdwn," Adian suggested, preparing his own helm and shield. "And see what we can do to stop the fighting once the spell is lifted."

He set himself ready to knock a man flat the moment he took hostile action.

As she moved toward her friends at a steady brisk pace the birds followed singing musicly the one that seemed to be the flocks head dove down at her.

" Tell your friends they need not fear, they will be wary for some time once awoken and may aid thy in thin noble quest " she sang reassuringly.
One of them landed on Adins shoulder. " there now see they are friendly, they trust you Adian.

" Did you hear that Adin? " she pushed her thoughts out to him she knew his senses were getting ever sharper.

Veraka will keep them ready she was sure, for what worst could come. But she trusted the birds they seem not malus.

She hurried now to catch up " Zarae " she called out now she could see them " i believe we need not fear them. " Now she halted her mont. " Can you hear the birds Adin? listen carefully they know something of these ones here and they have communicated with me. come now i know you can hear them too did you? " She pointed up at the beautiful white birds that flew gracefully above. " they are connected some how to these ones frozen here. "

Veraka nodded his agreement toward Adian, then said to Frad, "sometimes that's true, but look at it this way my friend; I've taken on and defeated probably one of the most magical beings in existence, and I remind you, a yochlol of Lolth is not easily defeated. So don't say that things that are natural can't defeat things that are magical."

He turned to regard to the stone figures fighting amongst themselves; tightening his grip on his sword, he was about to charge and start the brawl when he noticed something odd. The stone figures had no aura around them, it was like they were bodies without souls, or mindless automatons. Something inside him screamed to not bolt in and start hacking and slashing.
The storm warrior raised a balled armored fist, the general handsign for 'stop', and said "Hold up; something's not right with those stone things fighting amongst themselves."

"A connection...?" Adian said aloud, eying the birds. "Between the [i:3uhsuvtq]birds [/i:3uhsuvtq]and these men?"

This was getting stranger and stranger. He held his hand out for the bird to land on and listened intently, trying to hear past the birds chirping.

He wasn't a druid, but he might as well try.

Moonlight paused as Cinder neared and called out. she turned twords her with a questioning look. but just listened.

the hooded figures entered the tavern/inn first. as they guessed, the place was empty.
"perfect"
one walked over to the man cleaning the counters. they circled him and just watched. he did become nervous as he was alone in the room.
"blasted, why did i send them off," he mumbled to himself meanwhile getting into a defensive position. one threw back her cloak and his eyes grew large from fear. before he could say anything, a quarrel struck in in the side of the neck. he crumbled to the floor asleep.

((prewarning: june-july i will be mostly out of internet access, i teach archery at an outdoor recreational camp and then go to haiti for a week to work with DR. i will respond when i can, if i can. i may have zarae go off and deal with those hunting her so as to explain such a silence. but i wanted to give a heads up...
but yall can go ahead with the RP, without me. if anyone wants to take over as 'directing', for lack of better term, then i can message you ideas for it. or yall can come up with your own.))

"All respect mate, yer not natural. Ya got a dragon-god watchin' yer back, tha's a boon most of us can only dream of." He gestured to Pwdn. "What about Pwdn, a plain dress and a good head on her, and ya saw what she did when Lyon got bashed in the head. Yer a level above the rest of us without even yer shining armour, being the arm of yer god ya need ta be. Not met a paladin yet who couldn't see a man's evil from a single look, an' that's as unnatural as ya like. Not that I hold it against ya, you do the worst job in the world and I'm glad that yer around to do it, but I gotta say, magic just don't sit well wi' me; makes me feel right jumpy. I seen what it can do, what it can make a man do to himself and others; ya could all still be asleep in that big magic house for all ya know, and there's no way ta be sure what's real when yer travelling in unfamiliar territory like this. I seen a man kill his family thinkin' they were monsters, and seen him brought back dead wi' a mouth so ruined yeh'd puke ta see it from eatin' rocks he though were food. A mage can cause that from a hundred paces off and months in the past wi' no way to trace him once it's done; what natural force can match that? We never caught th' mage, never even had any proof the lad didn't just lose his mind from workin' himself too hard ta pay for their newborn. But we all knew."

Pwdn looked up at the birds, having walked around and checked each figure. "They will have seen it happen, I suppose. They statues feel empty, or maybe the magic is old and they've faded from waiting." She chanted and ran through a series of gestures, an arc of light forming over her and spreading out; those close by would also feel the effect of a mass heal.

((I'm aware that mass heal doesn't cure petrification, but as far as I can find the only way a cleric [i:323v8x1a]can [/i:323v8x1a]counter it is with Wish; Mass Heal being the most powerful curative they have before that and stone to flesh being only 6th level for arcane casters, I figured it made enough sense. Clerics were made to be healers after all, it's insane for them to require a 9th level spell just to reproduce a 6th level healing effect; you can raise the dead with only level 5))

Veraka gave a very inquisitive look to Frad through his armored helm; "perhaps I am more magical than I think myself, but being the right hand, and sword arm, of a god is not all it's cracked up to be; and you do have the straight of it that I'm more than human, but. . " he stopped dead.

((not quite sure how ya meant for that statement to play out, Ra'Sona, so, if I misinterpreted it, let me know))
Narrowing his eyes at Frad, the armored storm warrior asked very slowly "exactly what do you mean by 'worst job', my friend? I remind you that this duty that I carry around wasn't exactly 'asked' of me. and as to forces of nature being that powerful, have you ever seen a hurricane at it's maximum power, or a whirling, gale force of wind that some refer to as 'the finger of a god'?"

The aasimar turned back to the stone statues; he then witnessed Pwdn pull off something amazing with her healing spell. . .

The discussion between Frad and Veraka was interesting, but Adian remained confused about the mystery. The druid had hinted at a connection between the birds and the men...and now Pdwn was working a wonder...

Were they making a mistake?

[i:2nffec74]Too late now,[/i:2nffec74] Adian thought as he braced himself. There was no telling what the men would do when they recovered.

((Close enough.))
"Worst job in the world, yer bound ta fight for what ya believe, over and over, so that the people who can't fight aren't made ta suffer. Yer gonna die young fer it, too, but someone has ta do the right thing and that's why I'm grateful for ya. I'd not have the stomach for it meself, Lyon's the visionary of us two." He nodded, and turned to make ready for what was coming next. "I worship Helm meself, but part of the clan live under Talos; not a subtle god, him. Fingers of Talos, as you said, and often as not called into being by one of his lot."

The spell rose and flowed out to the statues, the stone becoming pale, and dust, dirt and grime falling in clumps where it had congealed since they'd been stood waiting. The statues began to move, slowly at first then more easily as the curse was dispelled.

Cinder watched the stones as they started to move she could feel Pwdn energy emerge them

She closed her eyes and sent forth to join with her a power from with in she could see also a shimmer emerge from the stones

The birds circled them seeming to chant in a most beautiful song

" I don't think there will be trouble Arian but there is something coming from the one to your right, i can't read it clearly but if there is trouble it will be from that one worn Veraka, he/she is the one to watch I can't see a gender clearly just a warning ." she directed her thought to him quickly then cut it off to continued to join her energy with Pwdn's

Adian nodded.

"Veraka," he said aloud, and nodded his head at the one the druid had pointed out. Then he gestured to his eyes.

[i:1t5hvdrw]Keep an eye on that one...[/i:1t5hvdrw]
