He spoke" the horse feels something.. animal's know best. Becareful everyone.. Hold on.. i'll scout ahead." He'd slip off of the horse and drew his bow, notching an arrow as he moved on ahead. he looked to Veraka" Mind checking the barn with the others? I'll check the cottage, and be careful, there maybe scavengers and lingering forces here." Pulling the string back slightly he moved to the cottage and pressed his back against the wall. He had seen carnage, he had seen half eaten bodies and defiled bodies, both for sacrifice and for a monster's pleasure. moving he kicked the door open with his foot slowly. Not seeing anything immediately he slowly stepped inside. he was smelling the air, trying to see if anything could come to mind. It could be anything, especially kobolds. Filthy mongrels.. Clearing the mind he moved more in and kept his footing even after stepping in a pool of whatever drinks were spilled when the onslaught started. of course with such events, he'd check everywheres as his feline companion mewed and moved ahead to spy. He muttered" Careful you." The cat flicked it's tail at him as it moved into another room.

Inrii walked the horse to a tree, and tied him up. she pulled out her wrist crossbow from her bag and attached it. then she cast invisibility. Edging nearer to the flatten burning house, she followed the warriors, to scout about.

Veraka nodded to Zek, then drawing his sword, he stalked towards the barn, ready for anything. A strange sound emanated from the barn, making Aurora lower her ears and Veraka to raise an armored fist, signaling for the others to hold up.

Inrii heard it too. She moved around the area, silent and invisible. Most the barn had been left intact, tho still dilapidated. Whatever it was didnt notice them yet; it was too busy looking for something in hand dug holes. It looked like a frail old man, simular in looks to the dead farmer. But something about his demeanor was off and it was clear he was anything but frail.
Zek, Veraka, and the cat edged in closer twords the occupied man. She guessed Zazzt scouting or something simular. Inrii leveled her crossbow at his neck and waited for her moment.

Veraka's facial expression turned to one of absolute disgust and horror as he picked up a very senile, evil aura outlining the now targeted frail, old man.

Zek picked up on the vibes of his familiar and moved motioning silently for it to come back. it quickly did that silently finding it's place up in one of the bags. Pulling the string back even more slowly so as not to cause any creaking or cracks. He moved closer and caught sight of the man, levelling the bow off aiming right for the neck, mostly the spine the string was pulled back fully at this point, the magic kicking in to remove the tension on his arm so he could hold fire. He just waited for the right moment to fire, the gods might have mercy, but he didn't. Was one of them going to speak to the creature or was it just wait and when it was time, all just strike at once.

a distance from the group she stood, happy with the success. She sent her best in and every part worked together. Of course she heard of the loss of the giants, but they we of no use anymore anyway. Now she waited for her lieutenant to return with the prize.
Then her scrying saw 'shadows' lurking around the barn, uninvited guest. Cursing she sent a mental command to him as she teleported back to the city.
Some how she would have it, even if she spent all her life hunting it. Plans were already if effect. Tricking the nightshadow into sending someone to search was only the beginning. What made it better was having pawns send people to search for the Vale would almost guarantee the success.
what she didnt know was these 'pawns' were about to remove her lieutenant.

((had to have an idea why so many were searching for the same place...))

Veraka saw how both of his compatriots were using their ranged weapons, [i:qa5tn6je]guess I'll go in head first[/i:qa5tn6je] he thought to himself, just as a snarl attracted the doppleganger's attention.
Aurora stood there, right outside the barn door, her visage was that of rage and disgust.
[i:qa5tn6je]Aurora, what in the Nine Hells are you doing?[/i:qa5tn6je] he screamed through their telepathic link; she didn't respond, didn't even move.
"What the. . . ." Veraka didn't get to finish his sentence.

Inrii, still cloaked in invisibility, released the trigger as the 'human' turned to attack. Depite his appearence, he was very agile and strong. the quarrel missed the desired spot but it still hit him in the neck. it sparked as it lierally burned in his neck like a serpet's sting. he flailed around to pull it out. the beast refused to go down, adreniline pumping his rage and effort.
she shot again, this time in the shoulder, leaving a smoldering hole. He lunged Inrii's direction (as she prepared to tumble away)...determined to stop those painful bites...

Veraka roared in defiance as he met the vile thing head on, barreling into the doppelganger before it reached it's desired target. He underestimated the things strength, as it grabbed him by the collar and, in a 180-degree spin, hurled him into the side of a tree. The berserker in him came up and out as he recovered to a defensive stance, his eyes blazing silver and red fury.

Getting more into the scene he'd release the first arrow aiming for the chest of the fiend. Hearing the sickening thwack of the arrow's impact he was already drawing another arrow coated in the same lethal poison. Muttering several curses and borderline obscenities in a few languages most likely he released the second arrow it 'grazing' the fiend's flesh but the poison was still delivered. He was already moving putting the bow away and taking out his blades. The fangs would sink deep in again if they had too. " You really know how to show a ranger a good time, you know that right?"

the 'old man' quickly changed forms to a tall, almost elven looking humaniod. but too much damage was done between arrows, sword and bolts. Not to mention poison speeding thru his veins. With one last futal attempt, it swifted into a bee and flew up out of reach.
He couldnt get far and fell to the ground, wings twitching and leeking the vital juices.
Inrii walked to the spot it had been digging to fins what it was so occupied with as the others were busy with the dying thing.

((rogue skill- loot the treasure as the fighters beat up the bad guy...

Veraka some blood off of his face as Aurora telepathically said to him, [i:2799j364]though, I'm glad that our enemy is dead, I am curious as to what our sorceress friend is doing over there.[/i:2799j364]
He turned to regard Inri, who was looming over the spot the creature had been excavating.

Walking over he stepped on the insect grinding the soul of his boot into the floor. Moving over he shrugged" Why else would Giants, and a fiend like that be here? Most likely an artifact something magical.. if it's not that then something just as intriguing."
