So, I asked this of one friend of mine, he still isn't certain:

You are offered the materials, schematics, tools and workforce required to build Megatron, but if you do, he will kill your family.

It depends on how much I like my family and also depends on if building the machine results in an over all greater good.

In short there is not enough data available to answer the question.

The most likely answer for most would be no.

No

why build a robot that you know with 100% certainty that it will turn on you and kill your family?

You may as well save the time and kill them yourself

The thing might bring about world peace, end hungry etc. Perhaps an overall good might be achieved with a little sacrifice. Besides it still might matter how much you love your family *wink*

Of course Megatron being the leader of the Decepticons likely would bring about World Peace by killing every human, which of course your end the hunger problem *EG*

I have a better response:

sell the technology to the Chinese and retire to your pleasure palace in the Caribean 8)

Great idea Tal, and by the time the sixth year of your retirement ends, something huge and shiny shows up and blows you into oblivion. I'd say no, definitely no, unless I had also plans for building Optimus Prime and would do it either first or simultaneously.

A different matter is: if I have plans for building Megatron, I should have also plans for building an energy source able to sustain him for what is pretty much a couple thousand human lifespans. Having THAT knowledge (and the firearms plans) I'd build myself a lightsaber :D or an environment friendly power plant and save the world. Blah, no, I'd stick to the lightsaber, or a giant mech, more like Megatron.

Megatron, kill all humanity? Don't be silly, why waste the opportunity for your own squishy, fast-breeding slave race? He'd blatantly have us slaving to make him energon, he's a very pragmatic baddie.

Not to mention, twelve kinds of awesome.

I'd still stick to the mech suite and a lightsaber.
