OOC: Meh, I think a fireball would have sufficed...

IC: Zazzt winked, "Perhaps he should drop the sword, and pick up that lute instead..." He turned to Lizarus, "And where do you think you are going? What happened to your attitude of adventure?" He shrugged, "A word of advice, master thief, perhaps you shouldn't be so quick to give up and walk away, hmm? I think that little runt was genuinely surprised to see you. But suit yourself." As the lemures fell away into lumps of massless flesh, Zazzt walked up, "You and I might have something to discuss after this whole ordeal is over, as friends, mind you." He clapped Lothir on his back, "I like you, bard." He said smiling. "You and I can get much accomplished here."

"Oh, yes, as I said I would before..." as he was talking, he went towards the door. He opened it up, and slipped away, going back to where he met the drow.

The young drow finally comes to a stop after the last lemure has fallen, and staggers over to lean heavily against on of the high shelves, his chest heaving, his clothes and face damp with sweat.
He nods mutely as Zazzt speaks, still too fatigued from his exertions to reply. The lute stops playing and starts to fall; quickly, he finds a last burst of energy and catches it before it crashes to the floor.

"That was close- almost lost it," he pants out. "Mind if we rest a few moments? I think one of them nicked me a bit." He glances at his left arm, and sure enough, there is a shallow but long gash in the sleeve, with a red stain around it.

"Damn. Could have been much worse, though. Times like this make me wish I could do that in armor..." He looks over at Zazzt. "Was that your fireball? Damn near singed my eyebrows off. Might want to work on your aim, friend!" He chuckles, and turns to Lizarus. "Thanks for the assist. You sure you really wish to leave? That was fun!"

"The black fire, nay that was not me, there was a big devil thing in the room too, you know," Zazzt put his hands on his hips, "Do all you young folk tire so easily after simple little lemures?" He shook his head, "I wouldn't use fireballs in an ancient elven repository of knowledge, flat out disrespectful." He turned to look at the shelves that the fire had touched, to see nothing more than scorch marks on the floor where the books had stood, "Ah friend, if only I had your copy spell." Zazzt sighed. "You and I really need to spar, although, if you tire so easily, the fight will not be long, I assure you." He winked.

He laughed ruefully. "Apparently, you've never seen a dervish dance from THIS end. It's damn exhausting to keep up that kind of activity for long- rather like an extended session between the sheets with a randy wench after a hard day of travel. Not that I couldn't handle either- or both- mind you, but it does require a bit of rest afterwards, my friend."

"And you're right about one thing- it woud be a very short spar. I doubt you'd even get a spell or strike off before I had a blade to your throat. IF I were so inclined. And no, it's not bragging, just observation. Takes a lot of training and natural talent to learn the battledancer's art."

He finally gets back up, wiping away the sweat from his face with one sleeve, while he pulls out a small roll of cloth and uses it to bandage the wounded arm. He wipes the devils' ichor from his blades, and lloks at the remains of the shelves where the black fire hit. He picks up a few scraps that remain, with a thoughtful frown.

"Perhaps something can be saved of these. May take time to piece them together, but..." He pockets the scraps, then follows Lizarus back.

Zazzt chuckled, "Really?" And Lothir felt a finger touch the back of his neck, and Zazzt's voice whispered in his ear, "That could have been a spell, or a strike, my friend." The Zazzt in front of Lothir , just whistled merily, twiddling his thumbs.

He laughed, but gave the thief an appraising look. "Ha! Point to you, rogue. I suppose life away from my homeland has made me a bit more trustiing than might be wise. Ought to know better than to turn my back on a thief, or any drow either, for that matter. Don't think for a momnet you'll be able to do that again, though."

He waved them on, being careful to keep his eyes on both this time. <Damn thieves. Can't believe I actually let that sneak get behind me. Must be going soft....>

"What the hell are you talking about? Do what again?" he gave him a questioning look. "I already had my fill for today." he muttered. "Maybe its Zazzt, probably not." he said, getting annoyed.

OOC: Oops! Wrong one! I meant him. Think I read the wrong one.
Anywhos...

"Easy, boys. You know, why don't we leave the petty bickering and in-fighting to the Lolthites, eh? That sort of thing is better suited to the Matrons, after all...."

He shrugs, shakes his head, and grins. "Besides, it's so much more fun to find more challenging battles than to simply waste time trying to carve up our own comrades, don't you agree?"

"No, no more battling for me. I'm going to the inn." he said to the drow. Walking to the closest inn. "I'm lucky I saved this over." he said, pulling out his bottle of wine.

Zazzt nodded, and stepped out from behind Lothir, "Agreed, although I think you might want to sit out the next battle..." He looked over Lothir's exhausted form, "Or the next two, perhaps." With that, he and his copy walked into the room, looking at the shelves. Zazzt shook his head, "I am afraid that we have some bad news, bard, that pit fiend is going to be much more trouble, unless I miss my guess." The books in this section were all about summons, and controlling outerplanar beings.

The lad shrugs, and chuckles cynically. "Can't be any worse than my sister on a bad day. She's been known to burn down entire taverns with a single fireball, and gut everyone inside besides, just because her soup is cold...."

He takes one last longing glance around, spies a few torn pages that he missed, and picks then up as well. He looks down at them and suddenly grins. They are pages of an old elvish ballad. "Guess this trip wasn't wasted after all..." He tucks them into his pack and follows the others out.

Lizarus went off the path of the inn, and went back to the forest. "I'm gonna set off here, goodbye." he said, looking back at Zazzt and Lothir, and stopped behind a tree, where he would relax until he thought the drow left.

He shrugs, and looks around to see what Zazzt has in mind.

Zazzt turned around, and walked out of the door, motioning Lothir to follow him. He quickly retraced his steps back to his tower, and when they were inside, quickly sealed the door. He walked over to one of his empty niches, and touching his hand to the pedestal, whispered a phrase in old Elvish, and a large iron bound black book appeared, the cover was blank, except for a strange symbol. Zazzt pulled out the book, and the symbol flared at his touch. He placed the book on the floor, and with the tip of one of his swords, opened the cover. The ensuing burst of flame filled the tower, but left Zazzt and Lothir unharmed. Zazzt turned to Lothir, "If the pit fiend was searching for this, then we have much reason to fear, you see, this book contains the ritual to summon both Asmodeus, and Demogorgon to our plane." Zazzt scratched his head, "Now granted, the two would probably just try and kill each other, but... you never know."
