Disturbance in the Dark Woods

Lightning was coming in and out of sleep each time he looked to his best friend sleeping peacefully under his wing. He knew she needed to stay here but how could he make her see. Lightning knows she will get up and leave, but he does not know what will await for her out there nor does he know how Malek would take to it.

He senses Malek to be a great leader and no harm would become of Quin if she stays. Some reason she does not wish to stay, was it the kiss he thought to himself. Quin has never been around anyone her own age. Maybe she does not know the feelings with in her are of her falling for such a handsome elf. She moves under his wing and he looks to her as she get comfortable then he closes his eyes once again.

As she sleeps she dreams, dreams of monsters and drow hunting her and her being alone. Quin runs from them but the keep coming from all over. She is cornered and is unable to get freed....

Malek stands dumbfounded, looking at the feast laid out before him. He had never seen such a feast, even before his exile. He invites his friends and family to sit as Melari comes out of the kitchen. "Somehow I knew you'd be falling in love tonight, dear brother." Malek blushes, "You know me so well that it's frightening, Melari." Malek looks about at the wonders in front of it, taking it all in. Then he looks behind him, as if expecting someone. Then he mumbles, "Quin, you haven't run away again, have you?" A moment passes. He looks back to his sister. "How long does it take to get a horse settled for the night?" Melari's eyes go wide, and Malek sprints outside. The night is thick and black as ink. His eyes turn red as he activates his infravision. He looks to the stables and strides in. He nearly laughs at the sight, but he holds his tongue. He notices Lightning's thoughtful gaze. Using his Ranger ability to speak with animals, he asks him one question, "Why?"

Hearing footsteps coming into the barn, Lightning opened his eyes and looks to the elf who entered his stall. He wanted to get up yet did not wish to disturb his friend. He looks up to Malek as he asked the question 'Why?' All he could do was shake his head and say,"She does not know what she is feeling and she is scared, my lord. Quin has never been around others of her kind, just monsters and animals of the Dark Forest where she had grown up for these years. I know this for I have been with her since she was 24."

Lightning looks to the sleeping Quin as he notices she is in a dream and it frightens her. He wanted to wake her up, but he did not know what she would do. He gave a sign and looks back to Malek unsure of what else to say other than... "She will awake when no one is around then she will leave, she had not said it yet I know she will do so. I know she likes you but she is not used to that feeling of love. Maybe if you wake her up and bring her in now she will not run."

Malek nods. "You words are wise in this matter, my friend. I will wake her, but..." Malek hesitates. Then he walks over and kneels in front of Quin. He brushes his fingers against her cheek and whispers, "Quin...Quin, my love."

As she is cornered by monsters of all types and it looks hopeless she will be able to get freed... When out of the blue she sees this cloaked figure standing in the light of the moon. Quin gets lost in them as she looks deep into them... she can see forever in the blue pools. The monsters keep coming yet she fears not since this elf was there and put out his hand and touches her cheek as he said.."Quin, Quin my love..."

Quin sits up quickly and as she lets her eyes focus she sees Malek and those eyes of his. Trembling with what her dream had showed and him down next to her now, tears come down her cheeks. Unsure of what to do or say... she looks down and then to Lightning and he looks away as he had said too much to this elf. She quickly stands up and backs away, unsure of these feelings flowing through her. She looked to the rafters and saw an opening in the roof, 'I could get a way from there.' she thought.... Taking another step back shaking the whole time.... She knows he said 'my love' but she couldn't allow him too.

Lightning gotten up and took several steps toward her, and she only moved back farther.....

Malek said nothing, but looked at her, pleadingly. A moment passed and he held out his hand.

Lightning snorted and pawed the ground and sparks flew. Quin was shocked as she looked to her stallion, then she looked to the hand that was still held out. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes and pictured the same moment when he held it out in the forest. It brought a smile to her face as she opened her eyes and looked into his.

She took a step forward followed by another. Once she was close enough, instead of taking his hand, she wrapped her arms around him as if she was never going to let go. Unsure of what he would say or do she just held on as if the world was coming to an end. A whisper was heard as her lips moved as she spoke, " I am sorry, I do not know why I act like this. It is something I have never felt before. I rather fight a hundred evil creatures than to face this unknown feeling i have. And I only feel it when I am near you." Tears welled up in her lavender eyes she refuses to look at him. She prayed he understood, for she does not as she held on to him tightly.

Lightning beamed as he went back into his stall and got comfortable for the evening...

Malek held her tight, and listened closely as she whispered. When she finished talking, he whispered back, "I remember that feeling. I felt it with Kiela, though not nearly as potent as I feel it now. There is no need to worry." He held her for another moment, then smiled. "Are you ready to go inside now?"

All she could do was nod as she looked at him with a smile upon her face. Quin thought a bit and said, "Yes Lord Malek." She laughed for she couldn't resist.

Malek joined in her laughter. "Alright then, Lady Quin. There is a feast waiting for us inside." Malek takes hold of her hand and leads her inside to the dining hall.

Quin's eyes widen as she looked around the home of Malek and his family. She could see over a thousand years of history with in this magnificent building. Her history on the other hand is split down the middle of two types of elves. As they gotten closer to the dinning room she could hear talking from the others, she took a deep breath as she continued being led by Malek...

Inside the dining hall, Arathiel is sitting in a chair, deep in thought, while Melari is chatting with the other guests. The feast is laid out. When Malek and Quin enter, Melari and Athariel rise from their chairs. Malek looks at them and says, "Sit down. You know I don't like it when you do that." Athariel and Melari sit, and Malek leads Quin to her seat next to his own. Nobody sits in the chair reserved for the lord of the forest. After eveyone is seated, Malek sits and formally welcomes everyone. Then, tossing aside formality, he thanks Melari and Athariel for cooking the meal, and uncorks a wine bottle, pouring some into Quin's glass, and then some into his own.

Quin looks to all ready to eat... she did not want to stop them, but she had something to say. Quin stood and looked to all at the table and raised her glass as she said, " I have something I would like to say before we feast. Welcome home to you and your family Lord Malek of this fine palace you call home. May you be proud to be called Lord once again as I will protect you as best as I can with my bow. Blessed be my fine Lord." With that she sipped her wine followed with a bow of her head to Malek and his family.

Malek shakes his head and mutters "Wizard" under his breath. "Yes, you are correct on both counts. Perhaps later I'll relate those stories to my other guests." As Malek eats, he remembers what Athariel told him about the cellar. At the same time, he remembers Quin's story about the drow in the forest. That raised some suspicions...Malek looks up as he puts that disturbing thought away for consideration later. A grin spreads itself across his face as he begins to tell a joke...
