Linking, potential advertising.

Post by kaze_ookami »

Im putting together a forum to train people to rp as Drow. There is gonna be a section for each of the 6 Drow Dieties I am aware of, plus a section for the more generalized types (aka those who are to lazy to learn a diety)

Point being, I wanted to know if I would be allowed to post a link to this website in the Eilistraee section of the forums. And if any of the wise people here would bother to visit to share their knowledge and fairly lead the fledglings in their education.

I must point out that Shirle is the only one who can decide on the linking.

*Points out the the Priestess that if she accepts then we'll actually have to PUT something in the Temple section XD*

*Puts something in the Temple section*

I think it's a fantastic idea.

Good to see I am not the only one that likes my idea. When I first started working on this I was half afraid I was just loony and everyone else would think so too.

Sounds like a great idea to me and I certainly wouldn't mind a link being posted. In fact, if I get a temporary lapse in my lazy streak I might even stick a link back on the [url=http://www.eilistraee.com/chosen/links.php:3q9k3g4h]links page[/url:3q9k3g4h].

Just a word of warning though, it looks like that in a year (with 4[sup:3q9k3g4h]th[/sup:3q9k3g4h] Edition D&D) there will be some major changes to the drow deities; at the very least it looks like there'll only be half of them left.

But a place to learn how to roleplay a drow and such definitely sounds like a good idea. :)

That in mind, it might be a good idea to wait for the release of 4E before you start that little project. It's save on later editing.

Alright, well how long should I be expected to wait?

Might also help if I point out, that what I want to teach is the personality behind the Drow. Not that statistical data. I am wanting to get people to learn to rp like you guys do here on these forums, not PnP or the such.

I think you should go ahead with your understanding of how to play Drow. Keeping in mind that there clearly are more then one. For example there are Gheyhawk Drow and Forgotten Realms Drow and they are not the same.

Rule changes clearly could be a bit of a problem, the first Drow had a gestation period of something like 45 days, current rules 2 years. Such a change clearly effects how to play a female Drow.

Start now, perhaps offer edition advice as it appears some still play 1st Edition AD&D, not counting that other game systems also have their Drow as well.

Then clearly the best option. Would be to break the sections I already have, into subsections. So each rule set gets the attention it fairly deserves.

As I understand it the new Forgotten Realms will be released shortly after the new 4E sourcebooks have been, the Realms being the first official setting to be converted over. But even so that probably still means you'll have to wait about a year before that comes out.

As such I would go ahead and get started. In fact, even if some of the drow deities don't make it over (or get changed) going to 4E I probably still would put sections up for them. As the time comes you might simply put up a sticky or such explaining that in the current edition the deity is gone, but you're keeping it around for those still playing the old edition or who want to reintroduce the deity in the setting or what not.

I also briefly considered whether it'd be a good idea to create separate section for the different editions, but I wouldn't do that. Just keep one forum per deity and I'm sure at some point you'll get threads describing the differences between various version ("3E Eilistraee vs 4E Eilistraee").

In general though it sounds like an interesting place. Drop us a link when you're ready to accept people. :)
