Temple of Eilistraee is Looking for Scribes

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

I’ll just repeat here what I just posted in the news forum…

The timing might be a bit bad since I’m likely to be quite busy for the next couple of weeks (as I reported on August 4[sup:3lehqgxf]th[/sup:3lehqgxf]), but people have been asking me how they can help and I’m always busy with one thing or another anyway.

I’m a bit nervous though, because as you will see things are far from complete, but that’s exactly what you can help with. :)

Even before I started the Chosen I had plans of setting up a site with general drow-related information. But then the Chosen happened and I realized that there are already plenty of sites out there for that. So instead I changed the theme of it a bit and decided to set up a sub-section of the site dedicated with Eilistraee-related information.

Basically, if you need to know anything about Eilistraee you should be able to find it there (though rules information will likely [i:3lehqgxf]not[/i:3lehqgxf] be there to prevent copyright-issues, at least it should provide links to where you can find that as well).

But for that I need your help; I need people willing and able to write pages of information similar to this page[/url:3lehqgxf]. That means reading sources and writing a well-constructed piece of text containing said information (without just directly copying the text). [i:3lehqgxf]And[/i:3lehqgxf] be able to list the resources used.

You don’t need any webpage-design/coding skills or anything… you just need to be able to post in a special forum on this board I set up. And also it’s quite likely that the things you post will be edited to fix mistakes, clarify things, etc.

From the link above you can see a menu on the right of the site. Here you can see what all needs to be filled in. I need people (scribes) to help fill in the various sub-sections in the “The Deity”, “The Religion” and “Drow” sections. I also need people who want to write Eilistraee religion-themed stories, poems, songs, drawings, etc for the “Moonlight Tome” section.

And finally the answer to what the Masters/Mistresses are supposed to do: Next to generally ‘representing’ their aspects of Eilistraee among the Chosen they each get their page in the temple in the “Goddess of…” section that they can fill in as they wish (as long as it represents whatever their position stands for). For example a Master of Swords could list various swords (real or made up), could explain various sword-forms, could explain how swords are made, etc.

People interested in helping work on this new section of the website drop me a message and what you’re interested in (note that the Master/Mistress positions are still subject to general approval by the rest of the community as well, so you have to convince not just me but everyone else too).

I’d also like to know of any problems you have with the site, errors you encounter, etc. In particular I’m trying a new style of website setup where the menu and title and such are constantly visible (but without using frames). I’ve tested this in Firefox and IE6, but other browers I’m not sure if it works the way it’s supposed to.

Oh, and that drawing of Eilistraee was made for me by my younger brother (though I’m not 100% happy with the skin color; if anyone can change that to be more drow-like without changing the rest of the picture feel free to do so and send it to me ;)). It was originally meant for the Chosen site, but I ended up using the Poser model instead (since the site had been up and running for a while when he gave it to me).

Let me know if you’re willing to help and let’s work to make this the most comprehensive source of Eilistraee-related information anywhere. :)

Any questions and comments are welcome as well.

Shocked to see me come first?

Anyway, I have read this, and I'm willing to help with the drawing things. So I'm willing to help out with that, and on the link I followed, and the moon seems to be a bit interferring with the reading. It blocks a bit.

Hope that helps somehow.

No, not at all... I always suspected you had hidden talents. ;)

Good. The Moonlight Tome certainly has room for images; though it's probably best if they are attached to stories and poems and songs. Also the intention was to have (black & white) images accompanying the information. I'm planning to merge those in with the parchment so it looks like they're drawn on it.

And the "Visions" section is basically meant to be a gallry of images where you could have your own section of images (I was planning to put some Poser renders in there as well). Though I still have to setup the code for that.

It was a bit on purpose to have the text disappear partially behind the moon, I thought it looked neat. The text is supposed to be read by keeping it under the moon for the most part. But if people are having problems with it or otherwise think it's a stupid idea I can see if I can change the position of the moon to be more out of the way.

Err, umm. Anything that doesn't involve artwork. I suck at that.

If you look at the Temple of Eilistraee site[/url:1gbmvxfn] there’s a lot of categories on the right that you could help out with.

Basically I see four ways in which someone could help out:
  • [*:1gbmvxfn][b:1gbmvxfn]Art[/b:1gbmvxfn]

Both the visions[/url:1gbmvxfn] category needs art as some (black-and-white mostly) drawings to accompany the main articles. But as you said this isn’t what you’re looking for.
    [/*:m:1gbmvxfn]
    [*:1gbmvxfn][b:1gbmvxfn]Moonlight Tome[/b:1gbmvxfn]

The Moonlight Tome is supposed to be a sort of Eilistraeen bible. It’s supposed to be filled with religious stories and songs and poems and such. Though with Eilistraee being a chaotic deity this is supposed to be a chaotic collection as well and there doesn’t have to be (in fact preferably not) any red thread connecting the stories beyond them being Eilistraee-inspired.
    [/*:m:1gbmvxfn]
    [*:1gbmvxfn][b:1gbmvxfn]Goddess of…[/b:1gbmvxfn]

This is what I originally created the Master/Mistress positions for. The intention is that any Master/Mistress creates a page dedicated to their ‘theme’. A Mistress of Food, for example, could fill the page with recipes (real or imagined; though I’d suggest to pick only one). Or they could fill it out in some other food-centric way. Then if someone else gets the position a new page will be created with the old one likely linked off the new one. Something like that.
    [/*:m:1gbmvxfn]
    [*:1gbmvxfn][b:1gbmvxfn]Articles[/b:1gbmvxfn]

But the most important way in which people can contribute is by help writing all the various articles for the site; particularly in the “The Deity[/url:1gbmvxfn]”, the “The Religion[/url:1gbmvxfn]” and the “Drow[/url:1gbmvxfn]” categories. The “Rituals & Ceremonies[/url:1gbmvxfn]” page gives a good idea of what direction I’m thinking for these articles.[/*:m:1gbmvxfn][/list:o:1gbmvxfn]
And all of it is forum-driven.

I know there’s a lot left to be done there and I’ve been neglecting the site a bit. But I still hold to the vision that it’ll end up being the primary site of Eilistraee-oriented information.

Hey! I draw some, if you're interested. Drow are by far my favorite subject....especially those who worship Eilistraee. Heres a link to some of my art (or doodles....or whatever ;P).

...most are not completely finished though.
I am willing to do requests! :D

Count me in. I can write some stories, perhaps even draw some images of Eilistraee or some religiously connected ones. Say the word, I'll be on it.

Word, now get to work. *S*

Not sure all that is needed at this point, but indeed it does appear that plots are needed, perhaps history and so on. Cool images I understand are desired as well *wink*

If we can pull this together it will be in some respects a shared world instead of one person's world. I do suspect coders would be useful as well and we appear short on them.

People who are interested in helping out with the Temple site, just drop me a PM with what section(s) in particular you think you can help with and I'll add you to the usergroups giving you access to the forums.

For those interested in drawing images for the site... [i:2dyph23v]great[/i:2dyph23v]! I'm always interested in images to add. If you want some direction then I'd say draw images that fit particularly well with the text on the Temple site (like drawing a picture showing a certain ritual that's described in the text), but at the moment there's not that much there yet to have pictures with. So perhaps you're slightly better off making generally fitting images or looking at the site and pre-emptively drawing images that suit (you might well imagine what deities will be listed in the "enemies" section for example and you could draw one of those).

I've found that most creative people work better if you leave them relatively free in their creative work, so I'm trying to do that. Draw something that you think fits particularly well with some aspect of the Goddess and we should be fine. And if it doesn't fit in with the text then at the least I'll put images up in the gallery section.

Just email me any images you'd like to see on the site and I'll put them up. Oh, and for the images accompanying the text it's probably best if they're B&W, though I'm definately not saying 'no' to coloured images either. ;)

Well, the same I told you on msn... I keep not getting the reply notifications by email, but at least I am getting the notifications on new private messages. I'd like to get the others too anyways.

And you know I'm always willing to help, even when sometimes my timing is very short, but I can help you in whatever you need if I have the time.

Time is always my main problem. The will to help is always present, but time doesn't help much :(

I was also participating in another board that I quitted for a big fight I had with the owner of the site (yes, I fough with someone and we don't talk any more) and I used to have a temple there, although for no god of Faerun, but for a made up God of Lust. You can imagine the access to the temple was restricted and the pics I uploaded to that temple were not very innocent. :#

Well, anyways, my priestess was deleted from the site as well as the rest of the temple, but would be easy to rebuild it anywhere.
