Cinder was right behind Adain when he faced the creature.
She was glad to see that there was moss growing in numerous cracks near the creature she cast a spike growth spell warning Adain just before she did so, there is a crack filled with moss just beneth it and streaming to the right of the thing. she warned
Cinder found a spot as close as she could get, and aimed for the head firing her arrows with each a heat metal spell cast upon them.

The monstrous thing Adian was confronted with was a monster the likes he had never seen before. It's fleshy, conical body, its wirey limbs, its horrid mouth with rows of in-pointing teeth...it was hard to believe that this [i:3320pls9]thing[/i:3320pls9] was a spell-user.

"For the Dark Maiden!" Adain roared, taking his bastard sword in both hands and aiming for its mottled body as he rushed the monster.

when cinder had departed, the rogue leaned back against the cavern wall for a moment, closing her eyes, just listening to the sounds- a door busting down, the roar of the cry echoing. her strength wasnt fully recovered. the shades attack nearly penetrated into the depths of her soul. there was still a slight struggle of her will. but she fought it as best as she could. after hearing the battle commence she opened her eyes again and attempted to stand up while looking to Aurora, "now i know what humans feel when they get old," she joked.

Veraka and Neriah hurriedly followed Adian and Cinder to where the two now were. Upon arriving at the scene, Neriah gasped audibly, drawing a slight look from her husband.
"By the Nine Hells, it's a Phaerimm[/url:3ikz6a38]!!"

As she said this, Veraka saw Adian charging the thing and immediately let loose a howl of anger, Marala Vharc crackling to life in his armored hand. With three massive strides, the aasimar was in a full charge, his shield raised.

As he got within feet of the evil mage, Veraka slashed downward diagonally, Marala Vharc's lighting edge carving a path through the air, right as a [b:3ikz6a38]Delayed Blast Fireball[/b:3ikz6a38] came blasting in from behind him.

Hearing Zarae with her Winter wolf abilities and seeing the drowess near stumble, Aurora padded on over to Zar and allowed her to lean against her white coat.
[i:3ikz6a38]Be glad you're with the elven blood, unlike my younger brother,[/i:3ikz6a38] she replied to Zarae, her ice-blue eyes radiating at the drowess.

Adian should have known the thing would have some sort of defenses up. His sword hammered on air, ringing loudly as it impacted on seemingly nothing at all.

As he found himself wondering what in the hell he could do about this development, the body of the thing suddenly twisted and it's barbed tail lased out at him even was Cinder's [i:u1u93wz5]Spike[/i:u1u93wz5] spell went off. The tail missed as Adian spun aside, while the stone spikes that suddenly burst from the floor forced it to step back.

Then the fireball roared in. The scorching heat splashed up against the strange shield and the blowback almost got Adian. The elf threw himself out of the radius at the last second, rolling to safety.

[i:u1u93wz5]What in the Nine Hells...? How do you fight an ememy you can't even touch?[/i:u1u93wz5]

Like Adian's weapon, Veraka's sword clanged upon the Phaerimm's invisible shield.

"Clever bastard," the aasimar growled as Neriah's Fireball blasted into the shield as well.

The mage followed up his Shield spell with a Flesh to Stone[/url:1koa9blr] spell. While choosing his target, the Phaerimm, decided upon the sorceress in the back. Lancing out, the creature cast his spell at Neriah.

Veraka heard a cry of surprise emanate from behind him. Whipping his head around, Veraka found his silver-eyes lighting up and blazing as the love of his life was transformed into a completely inert stone statue, her stance indicating that she had been preparing an adequate counter-spell, just didn't do it in time.
Tears welled up in his eyes as Veraka went down to his knees, his mind not knowing the effects of Flesh to Stone, felt his soul scream, as if he was in an asylum[/url:1koa9blr]

Veraka felt as if Neriah's innocence[/url:1koa9blr] had been torn away from her soul in that instant. Then it hit him like a hurricane. Not only Neriah, his loving wife, was petrified, but his [b:1koa9blr]son[/b:1koa9blr] that she was carrying, was also.

The thought of his son being hurt, a child, [b:1koa9blr]his[/b:1koa9blr] child, opened up a pattern of thought that he never, for the life of him, even dreamed of opening. Lighting crackled around his scaled hand, which he balled into a fist, the scales audibly grinding against one another, a testament to the raw rage, and sheer strength that coursed through the aasimar in that moment.

((Que epic music. . . . now: deliverance[/url:1koa9blr] ))

Tears still streaming from his eyes, Veraka slowly sheathed Marala Vharc and pulled out Aphyon'arisa[/url:1koa9blr], his father's greatsword, and let a low guttural, growl emanate from his being. Standing up, Veraka felt a tsunami of rage, anguish, hate, and bitterness wash over him. Electricity crackled and arched up and around his body, it's silver dancing bolts having a fiery red hue to them, as did Ayphon'arisa, it's normally blue-colored hue taking on a newer, blacker blue to it.

Veins bulged in his neck as Veraka's muscles swelled with preternatural strength. The berserker had come out but, something was different about it. Veraka, looking at the Phaerimm with his now golden[/url:1koa9blr]-hued eyes, let the dark-power of the berserker flow through him, fueling him with a malice that only he could have known in that moment. Fueled not only by the berserkers mighty rage and power, Veraka also felt the energizing force of a super-cell envelope him as a power equal to a Storm's Avatar flowed through his veins.

Lighting crackling around him, the aasimar roared with a wrath-fueled, rage-filled vengeance, and charged toward the creature with twice his normal speed. The aasimar raced toward monstrosity, raised his mighty greatsword, and slashed at it with all his strength.
The crackling weapon collided with the invisible shield, lighting bursting forth from it's unnatural looking edges. But the aasimar just withdrew the greatsword there, screaming as he threw every once of rage, strength, and energy he had into another blow. Veraka reeled up, his muscles tensing like cords under a mountain of stress, and sent a powered straight punch to the shield. This time the shield yielded to the berserker-fueled, vengeance-crazed warrior.

Feeling that this newly arrived, shining warrior was a new threat, the phaerimm barely had time to get it's huge blown body off of the ground and into the air by the time Veraka hammered his way through its shield. The creature than began casting another spell.

Cinder quickly sencing the spell... she dis spelled what he uttered out. her abilities were lacking incompaired to the beast but it worked.
She mounted Meldinus and circled it at a safe distance firing her heated arrows at it's head hoping to weaken it in any way she could... She wanted to go to Verakes wife but she did not know what she could do at this time.

(( wait a minute??? :uh-huh: not too complain, but how did the caribou get in the low enteranced cave, down the tunnels and up stairs? does he shrink? :? ))

she chuckled to that, "i couldnt imagine being part human. they are some of the oddest out there."
she looked up the steps wondering how much effort it'd take. "well, lets get up there, i hear the battle goin..." as she was speaking the sound the scream cut off followed by the sound of pure hate.
activating her house emblem, (and assuming auroa will rush there) she levitated up to the next floor and hurried as quickly as her worn self would move. down the hall she turned to the door to see Veraka fighting a giant mouthed tube and a statue shaped like Neriah.
'oh no...' she whispered, her grip tightening on Moonshadow. her eyes then were bright crimson, a shade rarely seen in her color shifting irises.

Adian got back on his feet just in time to her that awful scream. One look told him the story...Neriah petrified, and Veraka hammering apart the thing's strange defense.

And now it took to the air, out of easy reach.

What to do? How to get the thing? He had to some up with something fast, ot it would almost certainly cast something on Veraka next.

Well, since the beast regarded Veraka as [i:3ama9kan]the[/i:3ama9kan] threat, maybe he could do something to bypass its magical resistance.

He hefted his sword, preparing to hurl the blade at the thing.

"Cinder, Veraka! Lightning on my sword!"

He hoped Cinder realized what he was doing, hoped Veraka had enough sense left to follow up. With the might of the bull backing his natural strength, he hurled his enchanted sword at the monster. If it struck, it would serve as a lightning rod.

Cinder quickley spoke a lightening spell pulling a bolt of lightening from the sky directly into the beast and onto Adains sword falling back with Meldrinus as she could in so getting clear.
The lightning struck in seconds riping a hole into the creature through the head and into Adains sword.

as she prepared to strike, the make shift lightening rod struck. the thing was still attempting to get away. focusing her efforts and remembering the spell, she moved her hands and spoke the arcane words. A missile of magical energy darted forth from her fingertip and hit the target. the attempt use quite a bit of her energy and she leaned against the wall. Moonshadow kept up its mental attack on the evil creature as the other continued to pummel the thing.

then as a last resort, the thing turned itself into a self destructive bomb, causing itself to explode violently (if that can happen, it sounds cool anyway) sending shrapnel at those attacking it. the rogue's free hand gripped her piwafwi and pulled it in a shielding way as pieces of flesh, claws, teeth came twords her.

She road over to Adain after the explotion
" What has happened to Neriah , Adain? "
She leaped off Meldrinus she was trembling by the time she reached him " that could so easily have been you and what of Zarake, his wife his child...Is there anything that can be done? " tears fell down here checks as she dropped her head on his shoulder and gripped his arm in shock.

The explosion had hurled the much lighter dark elf halfway across the room. He picked himself up unsteadily and winced. At least one shard of bone-like cartilage had struck him, and his face had a few cuts from some of the thing's teeth. His head was ringing and he shook his head to try to clear it.

Rather than be torn apart by the storm warrior, the thing had opted to destroy itself.

"What was that thing?" he asked of no one in particular.

At Cinder's words, though, he turned and saw Neriah. She had not resumed her human form, as Adian had hoped she would when the beast was slain.

"Petrified," Adian said. "I've...heard about this. Underdark mosnters like the Basilisk and the Beholder turning people to stone."

He took an unsteady step towards her.

"The stories say, though, that there are ways to restore them. Unfortunately I'm not a mage. We need our healer back. Pdwn."

Veraka, even with his berserker rage in full swing, had enough sense in his skull to launch himself back when Adian hurled his sword. The lighting display was impressive.

The Phaerimm then exploded in front of him, sending nasty bits of shrapnel towards him. Raising his shield, Veraka and his armor reflected almost all of the debris, however the aasimar found himself lifted off of the ground in that same instance, and thrown a good few meters away from his position.

Getting up from his thrown landing, Veraka found himself unable to bring his rage out of his system, his sorrow and hurt were to much for him to bear, so he let his anger and fury do the talking for him. He joined Adian and Cinder near where Neriah was.

Upon looking into his petrified wife's eyes, the aasimar fell to the ground, his knees buckling under his weight. Crystalline orbs of water traced thick, wet lines down his face as he plunged his father's greatsword into the ground and used it as a brace to keep himself up on his knees.
"My wife and my unborn child, how could I have failed you so miserably," the words came choking out of Veraka like a small child crying for its mother and father.
