He sighs, and shakes his head with a grim expression. "No. No matter how much I might despise them, doing that would make me no better than they are. After all, that was the very thing that got him banished and cursed in the first place. I cannot kill my own kin, it would make everything Ravyn taught me be for nothing. I will not sully her memory like that. She would not want that, I know."
He leans back in the chair, and shrugs. "Besides, going renegade was probably the worst thing I could have done to him. The sting to his pride and ambition hurts far worse than simply getting myself killed trying to retaliate. You see, by now, all the other Hosues likely know that his only heir is missing. They will be whispering that he cannot even control his own son, much less his House, and it will send his credibility- not to mention their respect and fear of him- into the pits. And there is not likely to ever be another, unless he takes a new consort. An insult my mother would never allow to go unpunished, which is of course the whole point. If they're not already at each other's throats over my disappearance, one of the other Hosues will seize the opportunity sooner or later. so really, I've ALREADY done the worst thing to him that anyone could."
He has a look of grim satisfaction, and finally shrugs, as if it means nothing. "As to my brothers, it would be nice if they felt that way, but they can no more forgive him for what he did- killing their own mother- than I can. Besides, it hardly matters. My kind are forbidden to set foot in that land on pain of death. I managed it once before- only for the purpose of returning our family's lore Gem to my brothers- but if I were to go back, I would be shot dead on sight. As far as they are concerned, they HAVE no brother, because their father is dead, or more to the point, never existed. that is the shame of the Banishing curse- to be transformed as a mark of one's crimes, and one's name wiped from all memory. And any descendants afterward are no more kin to the family of the Banished than an orc would be- perhaps even less so, as the curse is a brand for traitors and those who have committed the worst of crimes. In the eyes of all Quessir back home, I would be considered an abomination and an enemy, no questions asked."
"He's right. They take the Banishing Curse VERY seriously there. Even those like us are generally considered tainted, because our father was a wyrm," Vala states, shaking her head. She is clearly angered by that. "Our own mother was nearly forced into the Rite because she cchose a dragon mate, and never mind that she didn't even know he was until much later, after we were born."

Onix looked at Lothir and nodded his head; the bard needn't explain anything to him, but the clone accepted his history with a nod of the head.

Onix let out a slight chuckle; "well, then it seems that the 'Quessir', as you call them, are even more narrow-sighted than I thought. They refuse to see a traitorous action as by an individual, but rather by an entire species, even if some within that species are good in their. Typical high-nosed arrogance on their part; the reason why me and my squadmates accept the our lot in life is because we [b:uo9b23s0]know[/b:uo9b23s0] that there is a reason for our existence, and without our existence, the ones we defend would be dead. Lothir, you remember Lieutenant Myria, along with Alpha platoon do you not? She is a dark elf, like you and the drow of this planet, and yet do we throw her out just because of a superficial trait such as skin color, we believe that if one is willing to help us in our cause, we don't turn them away. That's why the Marines accept us for who we are, me and my brothers. Becasue we fight the battles that they know they'd fail in, and because we take on that burden willingly. Me and my brothers my not like our lot in life and may want to change it, even desire a new life, but we know in our core that others are relying on us and hoping that we succeed in our struggle. That's the life of a clone in a nutshell."

At this, the clone turns his head towards Vala and stares into her eyes; "but your dragon heritage denotes that of a gold wyrm. Are the dragons of your realm different from those of this world. Even from where I come from, there are dragons, but they are a lot like the wyrms of Toril. Metallic colors denotes usually a good aligned wyrm, though I suppose there are exceptions to every rule. So you're own [b:uo9b23s0]mother[/b:uo9b23s0] nearly had this nearly imposed. I'm not gonna lie Vala, had Lothir not described their over-obsessiveness with this curse to me, I'd have contemplated bringing down an orbital bombardment upon them as I did when Lothir, me, my squad and a few others were venturing out and fighting for our lives right after taking down that blasted bug. Either that or nuke 'em," the clones says, his voice all dark acid as he recalled the vivid moment of when he had called down the ungodly might of the [i:uo9b23s0]Nighthammer's[/i:uo9b23s0] cannons upon that army. Had they deserved death, most likely, but wielding that kind of power was something that always chilled Onix to the bone
Then he shakes his head; "Forgive me, but where I come from, we are taught that [b:uo9b23s0]direct diplomacy[/b:uo9b23s0] is often the most efficient method of getting your point across to someone or some people. Also , I suppose I'm the most well versed in the art of word play and diplomacy. I'm a soldier, I was trained and raised that way, and as such, possess the same mental attitude. I call 'em as I see 'em, and from Lothir has described to me, they deserve nothing less than death. Now, if there is some great reason because of this ingrained, predisposed prejudice, then I'll be more than happy to change my judgment of these 'Quessir' of your world; but until such knowledge is presented to me, my opinion stands."
((OOC: Yeah, Aylstra, I know, Onix's is stubborn, but that's the way he's raised

Vala sighs, and shakes her head ruefully. "Perhaps if it were simply a matter of pig-headedness, I might be inclined to agree. But it might help if you understand the history there. Many millenia ago, there WERE no drow on our world. They came to be after a great war spread from one kingdom to the next, until only one was left untouched by it. And that was only because it was far distant, with a very different culture and traditions."
She looks off as if remembering something, then continues. "It started because some clans became over-ambitious, or simply wanted a way to stand against hte many wars between dragons that periodically ravaged the land. So they began to seek forbidden power, some by making pacts with dark gods, others by breeding with demons, or even simply assassinating rivals in secret. by the time any of it was discovered, they had become thoroughly corrupt and evil. Then they declared war openly against their own kin. Some clans were extinguished entirely, others were torn apart as brother literally fought brother. It was the first time elves had ever fought amongst themselves."
"Aye. It was so bad none could tell friend from foe anymore. That was when they called out to the gods to help them discern those were were faithful and true from the traitors. The Seldarine sent dreams to all of the priests, showing them how to invoke a curse upon the betrayers. That curse was the creation of those like HIM." Palax says, turning to point at the bard.
"And because so many of them had been tainted with the blood of fell beings, or had actively chosen to follow dark powers, it became a blood-curse, so that their sins might always be known to all who see them. Even now, it is still used against those who dare betray their own kind. A harsh punishment, yes- but it was necessary to weed out the spies and traitors. And ever since, those who remained true Quessir have sought to root out even the slightest hint of impurity or corruption from their midst. Paranoid, perhaps, and more militant than is prudent, but it has kept the wars from repeating, for now ALL elves know the consequences of such acts of agression toward their own. Which is not to say that crimes against elvenkind do not still occur, but it is far less with such a threat over them. Because it is not merely a change of skin, but a mark of shame and a banishment from all elven sight and memory, even that of the gods."
He turns to Onix, and jerks his head at the bard. "THEY have no place in Arvandor; as they turned their backs on their own kin, so havethe gods done. They are damned as traitors, and have become as wicked and cruel as the beings they chose follow so long ago. They brought the punishment upon themselves- even the children were corrupted. Why should anyone pity them? Perhaps the Rite has been abused at times in the pursuit to keep the taint from returning, but given what happened, I can hardly blame them for wanting to remain pure. And for the record, yes, the metallic dragons ARE known as goodly beings, and even sometimes as allies to our mother's people. But they do NOT tolerate such unions, for fear that even the blood of good dragons might bring more evil to their lands, since it was partly the wars of the dragons that led to the fall of so many."

Onix may be stubborn, but the one thing that he isn't is [b:1jmicopn]stupid[/b:1jmicopn]; upon hearing how and why the cause of all the hysteria and paranoia from Lothir's surface cousins and Palax's statements, the clone nods his head, a grim face of determination. "I suppose I'll retract my former statement about bombarding or nuking your people, in light of this new knowledge; however, my opinion of dark elves as a whole remains unchanged, for this worlds drow or any."
"Perhaps it [b:1jmicopn]is[/b:1jmicopn] fortunate for the dark elves I serve alongside with as well as the regular 'Quessir', as you call them, within the Marines. I couldn't imagine a blood war within our ranks, I personally know too many troops for that to happen. Also, Sir Palax, call me a traitor if you will for fighting alongside the drow within my armed forces, and yes, I've served alongside more dark elves than I can count, and I'd do it again, for I cannot imagine myself willingly letting go of any soldier I've fought beside, be them elf, half-elf, human, drow or even dwarf, to a Life Leecher. Say what you might, but I've learned two lessons from my life." He stopped allowing his lungs some much needed oxygen, then continued.
"First off, never judge a book by its cover; if you're referring to a species through scientific analogy or even psychological reference, then fine, using a whole populace is fine, but to level such a price upon them even for such a crime, just it may be, but I cannot see myself or anyone within my force doing such a thing. I suppose, given my galaxy's need of armed force, well that somewhat narrows the playing field, given how we won't turn down any willing recruit to our forces, but to judge an entire species based on that. Tell me, Palax, and I'm going to be brutally honest here, is not worth letting the few innocent few within even an entire race live, at the cost of others whom are evil also live around them?"
Onix let Palax munch on that, and then added "and if you say the exact statement as earlier to express your answer, then you will understand [b:1jmicopn]why[/b:1jmicopn] I have no faith in any god or goddess that invokes such a punishment and I will say this, if a deity is willing to stoop to the level of their creations for punishment of crimes, then are they any better than their own creations or prodigy, hmm?"
The clone flinched when Palax indicates Lothir and how drow are not to ever set foot in this Arvandor. Then replied, " 'Why should anyone pity them?'!" Onix repeated, a slight hint of anger and rage in his voice; "ask that same question to every single clone just like me and you'll get the same answer as what I'm about to answer."
"Yes, they do deserve a second chance, at least those whom show an honest and true repentance to their crime, which isn't even theirs to take on. The children, the most innocent and truest of all creatures in all the universe, and your telling me that their children are corrupted because of someone else's crimes. That is absolute VITH'EZ BULLSHIT!" Onix brought down an armored fist onto the table with such force that it creaked under the blow. The clone could understand punishing the person responsible for their actions, but the offspring of those folks. He couldn't comprehend a innocent child being victim to such a cruelty.
The clone continued to grind his fist into itself, the strength behind his muscles causing the glove's tips to produce a raking sound against itself. His crimson eyes blazed with an inner fury that he'd only unleashed a few times before. However, his soldier's practicality told him to not expend energy on a meaningless cause where nothing would come about it. Taking in a lung-full of oxygen the clone calmed his rage, but that fury within his eyes remained.
"So what you're saying Sir Palax, is that your kin, if they are, would not even rule me into the equation of that word, seeing as I am what I am, not [b:1jmicopn]who[/b:1jmicopn]?" Onix finished his very pointed question, honestly wondering what his answer would be.

The knight gives him a long look, and sighs heavily. "Perhaps you may be right, I truly cannot say. The one you should be asking such questions of is HIM." He nods back to Lothir again, who looks vaguely upset, but finally nods.
"It's true, of course. I am not afraid to admit that my own people have become more cruel and despicable than even some so-called 'monsters'. It is simply how they are raised. Cunning and aggression are praised, while any semblance of compassion and kindness are brutally stamped out of them while they are still young. My own sister Morganna is one of the worst- and she had Ravyn for a mother to try to teach her otherwise. There is practically no such thing as innocence among my kin- they see it as weakness, and reward only cruelty and ambition. How can a child remain uncorrupted by that?"
He looks down at his glass for a long moment, then speaks softly. "I was one of the few lucky ones- I spent so much time alone, or with Ravyn keeping me company when no one else even cared, that I was spared much of the competition and fighting that goes on even with drow children. Did you know that they are encouraged to pick off weaker siblings or playmates? Or that most of them have committed murder even before they are adolescents? What does that say about such children, that they lose their innocence even before they know what it is? Morganna never even HAD any- I remember seeing her play vicious pranks on the house slaves from before I was even old enough to know that such things were cruel. Greased stairs, venomous animals in beds or under chairs, whipping her own mother, skinning creatures alive.... And that was when she was still very young. Now she flays her lovers, or uses acid spells to torture enemies or slaves, or puts out eyes- she is more monster than any beholder or mind-flayer could ever be. She does such things because she ENJOYS it. As do most of my people."

The clone gritted his teeth at the complete retardedness of the statement, but found himself unable to vent his frustration, so he shoved it down, bottling it up, like he did every time he needed to.
"In-bred cruelty, my ass," he retorts, "that's cultural domination. I [b:2ihs289i]guarantee[/b:2ihs289i] you that if you left even ONE child in the wilderness and they survived, he or she would more than likly come out to be a somewhat decent being. That's not inbred, I don't care how much blasphemous bullshit they put in their childrens' heads, cruelty is NOT in-bred!"
Onix stopped, realizing how raised his voice was. "Cruelty and savagery of that level are not inbred," he paused, letting his fist uncurl and his steam releave itself; then in a low voice, continued "I would know if it was, I wouldn't be holding this conversation with you, Vala or Palax, and I wouldn't even be here, on this rock. I'd be killing my own brothers like those Leechers," Onix finished the sentence, his voice heavy with realized grief as his mind contemplated the scenario.
Onix looked down at his own armored hands; he couldn't see himself turning on his own brothers at all, never in his lifetime had he imagined or even thought of such things. They made him shiver in his armor, now he understood why his superiors preferred him and his brethren to keep thoughts like that out of their heads, it distracted and could even scare.
"How can a child among drow remain uncorrupted?" Onix asked, finally raising his head, his voice like solid steel; "simple, because there's a battle-hardened commando on this rock who gives a rats-ass about them and has the firepower to back it up."
Veraka continued to listen, intrigued by how his clone friend shared many of his ideals, even his views of life, on drow and how they could be helped. The aasimar never would have guessed a clone, someone who's life had been artificially produced, could turn out to be so . . . . . . [b:2ihs289i]real[/b:2ihs289i].
"Well spoken, my friend. I believe you just embodied my ideas on a whole in your own statement. As for going down into the Underdark and rescuing little drowlings from their malicious parents or even finding drow who do not care for their people's ways, I'm afraid I've got a duty to the Father-Dragon to keep, otherwise I'd join you on that endeavor."
Onix looked at Veraka and nodded his head, his crimson eyes blazing with the truth behind his words.

Lothir laughs bitterly, as if Onix has said something he finds both funny and sad. "A fine sentiment, my friend, but do you really even believe that they WANT to be rescued? You're right, of course. It may not be in-bred- though I tend to think that after so many millennia of associating with lower-planar creatures, and selectively weeding out any hint of decency, there is little chance of that. But even if it is not, it is so ingrained in them before they are even old enough to decide for themselves, that most never even QUESTION the truth of it!"
He looks sad for a moment, as if he's gone through the same conclusions many times. "It hardly matters HOW they become that way. They simply ARE. And the only way to stop it would be to destroy the source of that evil- and unless you know how to kill a god- well, a number of them, actually..." He shrugs, and shakes his head ruefully. "Besides, what are you going to do? Go down and wipe out every adult drow in the Underdark? And exactly what would you do with all the children afterwords? Your heart may be in the right place, but what you're suggesting is suicide. Not that it wouldn't be a worthy reason to die, but I'd like to think that my end would not be in vain."

Onix looked back to Lothir and replied; "I wouldn't go on a drow genocide to see all the young ones evac'd from the Underdark, but I AM willing to go searching down there for any who'd want out; and don't go give me that 'There's no one down there that wants out' crap, cause look at yourself, you're a walking example of it."
"How to kill a goddess, well if she can be physically harmed or not, well then, actually I might have a solution to that, but I don't think you'd like it, considering it'd probably kill us all when we're down there fighting her, or myself, so yeah, your probably right, it'd be suicide mission." The clone sighed helplessly, thinking himself useless at the moment.
"Don't patronized yourself on something you can't change," came Veraka's voice from his side. Onix looked up and replied, how am I supposed to live my life if I can't even protect the young ones of a race, even if they are evil?"
"You assume yourself capable of doing such a task?" Veraka asked back to the clone.
"Of course I do!" Onix snapped back all the while hammering a closed fist into an opened hand.
"And yet you are assuming yourself to be the anointed guardian of these drowlings, despite the fact that they're probably going to still continue their malicious ways," the aasimar spoke up again, calling upon his wisdom to guide his words.
"Rule number one of any war; know your enemy before you know your own force."

"Wise words, Sir Veraka," says the bard with a nod. "I'm not saying there AREN'T any down there that would wish to leave. Far more of them here, in fact, than I had ever thought possible, judging from the ones back home. But FIDING those few without getting ourselves slaughtered in the process is the difficult part. I have no answers for that- do you?"
"So you are planning to go down and fight off a leagion of vicious fanatics, on the off chance of 'rescuing' a few children who may or may not proceed to murder you in your sleep? I had thought you more inteligent than that, DROw. apparently I was mistaken," Palax rolls his eyes at the bard, a look of exasperation evident on his face.
"I think it a worthy pursuit, brother. If any ARE below who desire to be free, they deserve that chance, do they not?" Vala says, flashing him a deterined look.

Onix raised his head towards Lothir when the bard commented on the problem with Onix's plan/desire to liberate any drow wanting out of their social problem. As such, the clone drew out on of his katanas and spoke; "then I'll use [b:34ntk0ds]any[/b:34ntk0ds] means necessary to get to them and get them out of the Underdark."
The commando meant every word in its entirety, not bluffing once.
Turning to Palax, Onix nodded, saying in an iron-hard tone; "that is correct, Sir Palax. As to whether or not they'll stab me in my sleep, well I'd like to see any weapon try and pierce OMNI armor, magic or otherwise. Besides, if they are truly innocent as I know children to be, then why would they do that; even you can see that, Palax."
"And thank you, Vala; I'm glad to see someone besides Lothir agrees with me."

"My brother is a bit stubborn and set in his ways, at times," she agrees, smiling.
"Why? Perhaps because it is their nature. Have you seen such a city, good sir?" asks Palax seriously. "If you had, you might better understand the enormity of what you are suggesting. But if you wish to persist in this mad scheme, I suppose I would have no choice but to aid you- if only to PROVE to you how ipossible such an undertaking is."

"Sir Palax, I've been around in life for probably what Lothir has, still pretty young, but already, I've fought in more battles and more peoples wars to learn that if anything in this universe is accomplished, it is by being a stubborn asshole about it," Onix retorted to Palax, giving Lothir a grin to cheer the bard up and to show his thanks.
Turning to Vala, Onix replied, "yes that I can see, Lady Vala, and for your vote of confidence, I thank you. Not many, besides my fellow brothers, and potentially all of the [i:17m9qu6n]Nighthammer's[/i:17m9qu6n] marines." At the last part of his statement and laughed.
"Ahhh, I wish the squad was here, they'd be a nice addition to this conversation, but they choose their paths, as I choose mine. Perhaps what you said Lothir, there won't be a problem for me here on Toril," the clone finished despite his otherwise past foul mood, for he now turned back to Palax.
"And Sir Palax; a very wise and dead friend of mine once said that "the things that are worth having or fighting for in this life are [b:17m9qu6n]never[/b:17m9qu6n] easy to achieve." The clone might have been stubborn, but he had learned many a time that the things that he most cherished in his artificial life he fought the hardest to protect and keep safe.
Veraka had to smile at his clone friend; "I believe that you have just spoke a lesson that took me 25 years to learn, and only [b:17m9qu6n]after[/b:17m9qu6n] nearly losing the one thing that has made my life worth living for." Onix gave the aasimar a thumbs-up with a genuine smile.

OOC: Yup- that's her: the voice of reason between a bone-head and an immature goof-ball!
IC: Palax chuckles at mention of the clone's age. "As have I, good sir. I've often thought the same myself. You would make a good knight, I think, for dedication and steadfast determination are the keys to any worthy endeavor." (OOC: What's his Al? He sounds Lawful, lol!)
"Wait- don't tell me you actually SLEEP in that thing?!" Lothir looks at him incredulously, as if he's gone round the bend. "How do you even...? Never mind. I'm not sure I want an explanation for THAT." Then he seems to think of something else, and gives Onix a puzzled look. "Do you EVER take it off? Even for- you know." He jerks his head toward Vala with a waggle of brows, and then cuts a glance over to the sleeping infants to indicate what he is referring to.

A loud voice would boom from the doorway as a crimson tendriled green-gray elf entered the Tavern with a loud "Oi!". Kalannar would grin over at Luexana and Delrum as he made his way over to them both. Nonchalantly he'd take one of Delrums tankards, taking a deep swig of it before slamming it down and placing an arm about Luexana. [i:31tz78qp]So 'ow be me faovrit' dancer tonigh' eh?[/i:31tz78qp]
Delrum let out a groan at Kalannar, muttering something about filthy, thieving, ale hogging elves with no manners whatsoever. Once the tankard was placed down he'd shoot the half drow half sea elf a glare. [i:31tz78qp]And wha' be yer purpose 'ere eh?[/i:31tz78qp]
[i:31tz78qp]Fancyin' a drin' and some company. Nothin' wron' wit' tha' is there? [/i:31tz78qp]The elf would say calmly, an amused smile playing upon his lips.

Onix looked at Palax with a baffled expression; "Sir Palax, while I don't doubt your words, somehow I get the feeling that my becoming a knight would relieve Veraka of his job," he gave the aasimar a friendly grin.
It was Lothir's odd expression that caused the clone to turn. "In my armor, of course, what good is a protective suit if you have to take it off to sleep, besides the last time I got any amount of rest was probably more than a week ago."
Lothirs next question made Onix give him a raised eyebrow; "if by 'Even for - you know'' you're referring to copulating, then yes, the armor comes off. As to whether or not I take the armor off, yes for rudimentary maintenance and just to give my body some air now and again; unfortunately, unlike you, I have not experienced the the embrace of a female. Yup, I've been fighting for four decades non-stop, one battle-field to the next, never any time to enjoy the simple and worthwhile things in life like that."
