Veraka nodded in Adian's direction.
"Platinum dragon-scale is probably one of the rarest armor sets to acquire, and for that matter, one of the hardest. Though why mighty Bahamut would give me such a strong armor makes me wonder, what kind of task could possibly require me to have a armor made from the scales of the Platinum Dragon himself" he said, putting his helmet down to his side.

Adian's eyes widened.
"That is...extraordinary," he said. "Your task must be great indeed. Your sponsor has entrusted you with a great trust. All you can do is to to your best to fulfill it. Trust in your gifts...and your friends."
Adian looked over his map again.
"I think there's a ridge rising along here...it might be a good place to look for a shelter. We might reach it before dark."

"Sounds good to me. just lead the way."
speaking to the walking warrior, "Veraka, you know Argo is still able to be ridden. the snow is gunna make it harder for your, um whats the word, size? to continue thru the deep snow."
they rode thru the rest of the day. as the sun lowered, the temperature went with it. the wind kept blowing and the snow began to fall harder. the horses, despite the weather, were unphased by it. they were bred for this and enjoyed getting out of the stable.

The storm warrior nodded at Adian's suggestion; "a sound decision."
Turning to Zarae, he replied, "don't worry to much about the snow slowing me down. Remember, I was raised among barbarians, so snow is like a second home to me; and for my size, I need not burden down Argo. Putting a man of my mass and in the armor that I'm wearing, onto even Argo there, would be a much more burdened horse, and personally I don't like putting that much stress on a horse."
As he trudged along through the white powder, it soon became apparent that nature wasn't going to give them an easy time. Veraka replaced his helmet to keep the billowing wind and snow outta his face. Even being on foot, he was able to keep pace with the rest of the group, an armored tank, plowing through the ever piling snow.

they neared the spot indicated by Adian. as figured the sun was about 10 minutes from setting.
Zarae slid off Moonlight when they stopped.
"might be good cover from the wind. I'll see if their is any recesses in the side to stay in."
she turned to Moonlight, "now you behave," she joked.
there was a carved 'cave', about 10 feet deep, 8 feet tall and 6 feet wide. it would be a bit crowded for 8, but the best spot out of the wind and snow.

Lyon and Frad, upon reaching the cave, moved without hesitation to unpack their bedding almost by rote, to the extent that Lyon got his hand swatted for trying to unpack a dozing Pwdn. She'd made a sort of alcove in the saddlebag and exited quickly when Lyon dropped the bag in shock, shushing him kindly when he went to apologise. "My fault, I wasn't paying attention to what was happening."
She wore the heavy coat now, and looked about quickly before helping unpack. She and Lyon got out the bedding and a sort of frame-and-canvas windbreak to keep out the coming storm's winds while Frad tried to light a campfire to start cooking supper. With the lack of good kindling and the frozen weather he wasn't making too good a go of it and so told the failed fire a lot of things that, if anyone spoke Dwarven, were extraordinarily obscene. Lyon snickered quietly to himself at the display and Pwdn's face went slightly pink, figuring the intent of each curse if not the actual wording. "Bonds of Ilmater. . . "

Adian winced every time the dwarf's curses became particularly foul, silently wishing he [i:lmcmru5k]hadn't[/i:lmcmru5k] been schooled in the language, as he unpacked his mount and tried to find materials to reinforce the wind break.
"Well, at least we'll all be fairly warm tonight," Adian said. "With all the body heat in the same place."
Not as warm as Zazzt's palace had been, but it wouldn't do to get spoiled.

Veraka went into the cave, and examined it as the others started to get. He agreed with Zarae that this would be good cover for being out of the wind.
[i:1ib38yzz]Though with my colossal frame, this small inlet will become very crowded indeed. No matter, keeping these guys from catching something that wind could give is more important[/i:1ib38yzz] he thought to himself as he dropped his pack along with his shortbow about half-way into the cave. Frad's steady stream of dwarven brought out a good laugh from the aasimar.
"Frad, that was absolutely diabolical," Veraka chuckled to the dwarf as he clipped his shield onto his back-plate.
He then turned and walked back out to the edge of the cave, grabbing his cloak to prevent it from whipping and snapping around in the bellowing wind. He waited till everyone in the group was moderately situated within the 'cave', then let his cloak go. He stood at the entrance of the cave, his 6'7 frame effectively blocking a good portion of wind from entering the cave.
He snickered at the idea of him being the wind-breaker for tonight, "I suppose I'll take on the task of wind-blocker for this round of the night," he said, not turning his head an inch from the blowing hailstorm.

before going in, Zarae took out the blanket and covered Moonlight. then gave him a treat. He walked over to a spot where there was little wind.
Zarae found a spot in the back. she set her bed roll out and placed her pack on it. Veraka was being a wind blocker, so she offered the extra cloak to him. it was black and thick, and more importantly very warm.
"we got the berries from Pyoro, to use for warmth." rifling thru her pack again.
she took an unusual plant that was orange and red and examined it, curious about it. "he said this had the ability to keep lit for 12 hours and warms twice as much as a regular fire and less obvious to enemies."
she set it in the midst of them, then dug far into the resourses of her mind for that spell she loved and cast it on the berries.
"pyoro was right, small and warm."
she pulled out the extra warm clothes and set them to the side. she wouldnt need them for a while with the fire.

Zarae wrapped her piwafwi tighter around herself and stared at the small fire.
"maybe they have special blood? do rivvin mix breed?"
rifling thru her pack again she pulled out a piece of rothe jerky and frozen chocolate.

Pwdn and Lyon ended up setting up the canvas windbreak to one side of the cave so that of would be of more use to Veraka, allowing him to move to fill the other side and get out of the winds that now howled angrily. Frad kicked his failed fire off into the trees and went to sulk inside the cave after treating Phenix to a handful of sugar bombs which she clearly adored given the fuss she made of him. He couldn't help smirking at Veraka's comment despite his trying to be moody. "I don't like ta be fooled with by damned inanimates. Can't just kick 'em in the teeth for it."
Lyon unpacked his bedroll and settled inside in an opportune place between Frad and Zarae, watching the entrance where Veraka was sat and thinking about things. Pwdn waited to be the last one in, casting a ward against evil over the mouth of the cave, as well as protection from normal and magical missiles. A little further off, so as not to be a hindrance to anyone exiting the cave, she cast a wall of dispel before finally moving to pick a spot to sleep. All the spells were extended to last until the morning, and once inside she explained what she'd done so that no-one would accidentally run afoul of the wards if suddenly attacked. She found a small patch of luminous mold and settled next to it to enjoy the comforting glow, wrapping her heavy coat around herself and drawing herself up inside to conserve her body heat.
