On The Shores of Despair (Part 4)
Moderators: Shir'le E. Illios, Bhaern Quel
Veraka continued to hammer on the balor with his sword-fist, but the demon started to attack the celestial again, not concerning itself with the half-sized aasimar on its neck and for good reason; it was wrapped in its flaming body.
Veraka roared as his well-toned, heavy-muscled body was scorched from the inside out as the searing flames did their work upon his body, even through his shining, tough-as-nails dragon scale armor.
The demon laughed at the aasimar’s attempts to distract it from its primary target; with a great heave the balor pushed the female celestial back, brought it’s free arm around its neck and attempted to grab at Veraka, though the stubborn aasimar held on, despite the searing, burning flames that licked at his skin.
Seeing this, the solar shouted to Adian through a mental link; [i:1dnpnj8y]Young paladin of the Dark Maiden, Adian Novar, assault that foul monster from the hind, attacking its legs. Slash and hamstring it,[/i:1dnpnj8y] she said to the young drow, preparing two spells that might need to be cast soon; the female celestial did all this while drawing out her huge composite longbow and notching an arrow into its string.

((Sorry for taking so long, I struggled to catch up. I might of missed something so please bare with me.))
Biot who was in some kind of daze, almost frozen, suddenly fell to his knees. He seemed week. All he could remember is darkness. The same darkness he saw when he was in the warm water spring.
He looked around and saw Cinder guarding Pwdn and Zarae. What happened, he thought to himself. "Whats happening to me? " he yelled, while trying to make his way to Cinder's side. As he reached them he saw that Adian, Verake and some people he doesn't recognize battling a large monster that seems to be made of fire.
"Whats going on?" He asked Cinder. "I wish I can help but I can hardly walk. I thing it might be because I haven't fought for so long.
Biot saw a demon approaching. He must have given their position away, he thought to himself. The demon was heading straight for the tree Cinder was in. In desperation Biot jumped rite in front of the demon, but to no avail, it brushed Biot aside like nothing and then started to bend the tree, trying to get to his friends.
The pain Biot felt combined with his anger started to restore some of his strength. Biot summoned his double-chained blades slinging them towards the demon cutting lashed in its back, but the demon didn't seem to mind. With each strike Biot got stronger and the lashes got deeper. Biot then ran and jumped on the demons back plunging his blades into both sides of the demons neck, pulling the blades towards him cutting the demons spine clean off. Black blood gushing all over Biot. As the demond went down Biot could feel the strength again running through his body and for the first time in a while he didn't feel guilty after killing something.
Biot saw Veraka hanging on to the demon made of fire, and ran to help.

Adian nodded quickly and darted around the monstrous demon, dodging the whip and the wings so narrowly he could feel the unnatural heat.
His sword flashed in a glittering blur as he attacked the back of the monster's legs, hacking at its ankles and drawing it across the back of each of its knees. He could feel the monster's firey aura starting to heat him through his armor, but he continued to strike regardless.Feeling the infernal flesh start to give way, he continued to attack as hard and as fast as he could. With a great swing and a shout he finally backed at the largest if the visible tendons at the back of the demon's heel.
It was an odd sensation, as though he were not the one delivering the blow but merely watching. The sword bit deep into the thing's body, and while the steel turned a hideous black that creeped up the blade it also severed something rather important to the balor's balance.
The powerful leg began to give way as its hamstring was cut.

Biot reached Adian just as he cut the demos hamstring, getting another squirt of black blood in the face. Biot wiped the blood from his eyes and asked Adian what he can do to help.

OOPS DIDNÈT READ IT RIGHT I WILL REVISE BIOT...
Cinder watched from the tree and every thing seemed to be under control, she jumped down from the tree. Zerae are you all right, Pwdn had cleaned and headed the wound on her face.
Fortunately the other demons were to busy to notice that one of them had found them. She rapped Zerae up in the blanket lifted her on to Meldrinus and moved her further into the forest and away from the fallen demon she wated to be sure she would be safe, Moonlight followed. She found a spot far enough away in case one of the demons followed the fallen demon. She layed her on the ground, Meldrrinus lay beside her keep her warm and warn me if there is trouble. She when back to the tree and climbed up to watch. i took Zera deeper into the forest she is with Meddrius and Moonlight she is safe..she told Adian
Cinder noticed that there was a beautiful women that had a light around her with a long bow, she wondered if this was Verakes mother come to aid him, he hoped so perhaphs this would go far at healing his emotional wounds concerning his mother.

Seeing the young drow paladin do as instructed, the female solar drew back her huge longbow, the arrow notched crackling with electricity. Her eyes narrowed, locking onto the falling demon; with a whoosh of air, the crackling arrow burst forth from the solar's bow, sailing toward the monstrous balor.
The Hellpiercer arrow embedded itself in the demon's throat, causing black ichor to spew forth from the penetrating wound, even as the purified Couatl venom started to spread throughout the balor's veins, poisoning it and weakening it at the same time.
The demon sensed what the celestial had shot into it, and smiled deviously.
"You think that by poisoning me, you've won, hahahhahahhaha! Oh, Solar, if only you realized just how much damage you've truly done," the demon said, smiling all the while. Within an instant, Neriah started to scream out-loud, as her body began to contort with pain as the poison that affected the balor, her great ancestor, spread throughout her.
A moment later, Veraka unlatched himself from the balor, his body twisting and turning; his hand clutched at a golden necklace that was around his neck; he let out a roar of pain as his hand brushed the neck piece.
The balor laughed manically yet again, this time raising its vorpal longsword over it's head, aimed at the cringing aasimar. The celestial's eyes widened with growing horror.
"And this is where [b:31zgjv9q]your[/b:31zgjv9q] bloodline meets its end."

Cinder watched in horror not knowing weather to stay put and wait for Adain to react to the situation or to try and aid Pwdn in helping Verakes women, but what could she do to help Pwdn she would ask if her aid was required. She decided to wait for Adain to instruct her, she remain grounded in the tree so much so, that she could feel the energy from the tree speak to her suddenly she was infused with the healing power of the tree and combined with the power of the conjucting planets she froze not knowing what to do, the female was just below her the cat was perched in the tree watching Cinder yet still indifferent. Help me pulled her up into the tree Kitty, help me get her up here in the tree, Cinder was grasping at straws. But she had to do something, the cat leaped down beside the female and took her clothing in her jaws pulling at her, Cinder jumped down and they both pulled her up into the tree. Cinder found a solid perch in the tree. sat down cross legged with the large female sprawled over her legs Limp but yet convolting. She held her as best she could, she asked the tree for all the help that it could draw upon, she prayed to the goddesses for help. Suddenly she felt the tree trying to sap the poison out of her and the pushing it into the soil. Cinder asked the chilling wind to amerce them as the tree drained the poison out. There was still a mist of invisibility around them so that the demon was unable to find or detect what was happening them.
Cinder was growing faint she called out to Adain in there minds... Neriah is in the tree with me the tree is sapping the poison out i am not sure if it will heal her completely but it is tryig..i am getting very weak ...she faded out and with her legs folded under her and the women being drained laying over her Cinderès torso fell over Neriah in exotion.

Adian's weapon was ruined. His bow had no enchantments, no special arrows. He had no tools of wonder beyond his hands.
But had had his faith.
He pulled out his holy symbol, a silver disc with the carved image of the goddess dancing with her sword, and he placed it in his palm. What happened next was a desperation move...but one inspired by Veraka's own effort.
"Shoot him, Cinder!" Adian shouted. "Take the balor's eyes!"
At the same time, Adian leaped up and, though burned by the demon's flames he grabbed the chain around the demon's neck and heaved...using the hand that had the holy symbol on it. Gritting his teeth against the pain, he tore at the chain necklace and uttered a plea to his goddess for strength...something...anything to save Veraka and his beloved.
(If it works or not is up to Veraka.)

Cinder hear Adains voice, she jumped ..she layed the female aside gently and garbed her bow the energy grounded in her was emence. She aimed for the eye and her arrow was on its mark in seconds and it exploded. She drew another arrow and let it fly at the other eye she was angery by now and had had enough of that demon, both eyes exploded and he shrieked in agony holding his eyes.
She turhed to Neriah , kitty was holding her like she was a kitten she had stopped convolting and was calmy sleeping. Your heart is as big as yur appitite for bacon, indiffrent indeed Cinder teased.
She jumped from the tree and ran in Adains direction as they finished off that infuriating beast.
She stood by waiting for Adain, tears streaming down her face. Is it over she spoke to him throw tears, in there speical way. Is it finally over.

((Sorry for the absence, had writer's block really bad))
Lyon and Frad had moved in a dual charge through the hellish enemies, Lyon smashing into one in a fury while Frad darted nimbly behind them moments afterwards and prevented them from raising an effective guard with well-placed attacks to throw them off-balance.
Pwdn stayed with Neriah, trying her best to allay whatever was happening to her, though finding it ever more difficult as the battle continued. She bestowed [i:25cglgk1]Mass Aid[/i:25cglgk1] and a [i:25cglgk1]Prayer[/i:25cglgk1] on the group and even directed a [i:25cglgk1]Dispel[/i:25cglgk1] at the Balor to try and weaken it for the others. When Neriah began to twist, wracked with pain, she was almost at a loss. Fast running out of spellpower having cast so many on the injured fey'ri, she resorted to one of the other knacks she'd learned, and one she rarely used for the danger it posed and the fact that it left her dedicated to a single person. Linking her hands with Neriah's in the wrappings of the ribbon, her holy symbol, and leaning down to lie beside her, Pwdn chanted steadily in prayer to Ilmater and in blessing upon her injured friend. It was no cure as such, simply a small ritual taught to a certain region's groups of druidic combatants that she'd in turn been taught in gratitude for helping them. It allowed her to bestow a portion of her own heath upon another by accepting their ailments in return, dangerous since she had little control over what exactly happened to her but effective in that it was a personal link and difficult to disrupt. TThe lingering of the poison wasn't anything she could stop now, but in this instance at least she could prevent it doing irreparable damage to the poor girl of whom she and Cinder had charge. Pwdn knew she could recover from these things without terrible difficulty, given time. Nerisa on the other hand she couldn't be sure about.
((Not a D&D ability, but I lifted it from a D20 system that has the same core rules, it's a 'talent' that lets the user transfer lost numbers to someone else. HP, stats or levels, anything like that. The effect is permanent without magical restoration and was used by the cleric class, who were basically sin eaters and got a free restore-self every few days, from every week to every day depending on how high-level they were. It's a random allocation every turn, so there's no way of knowing whether you'll be sacrificing12hp or three levels and you [i:25cglgk1]can[/i:25cglgk1] die from it. For an Ilmatarian, it just seemed to fit, I thought.))

As Biot spoke to Adian, Adian leaped onto the balor. It seemed that Adian didn't even notice Biot coming to their aid so focused was he.
As Biot started to storm the balor he saw that the balor's wounds was healing and healing very fast. Ons of his eyes was almost completely healed and the wounds in his legs was closing.
Biot through his double chained blades so that they tied the balor's feet together. Biot pulled and the balor fell onto his stomach. "That brings him down to our level making it easier. I'll keep his feet tied for as long as possible." Biot said as the chains began to glow red as they got warmer burning Biot's arms.

Biot - Half Drow half ..... (Class: Dragonlord)
Nix - Drow (Class: Arcane archer)
Only the dead have seen the end of war.
The aasimar's eyes widened in horror as the balor's sword descended; then it suddenly stopped, as if something was holding it back, though he continued to writh in pain, shouting and screaming for something to stop what was happening to Neriah.
Veraka then saw Adian latch onto the balor's neck and heave with super-human strength, which caused the 4500 lbs demon to stop momentarily in its tracks. THe aasimar then screamed in agony as another arc of white hot pain exploded through his mind and into his body.
"Eilistraee must favor you, young paladin," shouted the female solar as she charged in, her huge greatsword blazing a path toward the mighty demon, whom was now on the ground, and an easy target for her weapon. As the demon toppled to the ground, the solar plunged her glowing weapon into the balor's back, causing it to bellow out in pain, snarling as it did; "you think that you can defeat me, solar; HAHAHAHAHA" it laughed at the celestial; "your prodigy is cursed with an affliction that I would consider devious to begin with."
The solar's eyes glowed as her rage pent up as it was, released itself in one echoing scream "BEGONE!!!" With that, the celestial brought her hand down, palm open and cast [i:qwb5hd5r]Banishment[/i:qwb5hd5r] upon the balor, which was already weakened magically, due in no small part to Pwdn's spells.
The mighty demon was sent, laughing, back to the black depths of the Abyss from the solar's spell. The moment the demon's presence couldn't be felt, both Neriah and Veraka stopped thrashing about.
The female celestial walked over to the now unconsciousness aasimar and put a gentle hand on his face.
"How you became what you are, Veraka, is beyond me," she said in a low voice as she lifted the mighty warrior off the ground, his massive frame fitting quite well within her arms.
As the celestial got up from her kneeling position, she looked down at Adian, who was within the area as he had been attacking the balor to assist Veraka when she banished it. She smiled at the young drow, who was barely half her full height.
The celestial turned to Biot, and gave him a curt nod; "Thank you, Biot, for your assistance in taking down that hideous creature. Your help is most appreciated."
Her holy aura gave off a very calming feeling to those within its radius.
Returning her attention to Adian, she looked at him. Staring at the drow paladin with her golden eyes, she asked, "Adian, would you please retrieve Veraka's weapon from the ground, and accompany me back to your group?" She indicated Veraka's weapon, Marala Vharc, which lay near the young drow. Standing before the young drow, the female celestial noted how the young paladin was without a weapon.
"My young paladin, where is your weapon? Have you no blade with which to counter the evil of the world?"

"At once, milady," Adian said quickly. He picked up Veraka's blade with his left hand...his right had been burned by the demon's terrible flame. He managed to collect the great blade only wincing a little.
"My weapon was destroyed in severing the hamstring of the monster," Adian said, choosing not to honor the thing by mentioning its name. "It was mere steel...well and carefully weighted and forged with great skill, but mere steel nevertheless. I still have my knife and my bow."
His right hand, however, would need serious looking-after. The flame of the demon and the heated silver of his holy symbol had burned through the leather gauntlet and burned his flesh.

Biot went to get the animals and Zarae. He carefully lifted Zarea onto his arms and took the reigns and leaded the animals to the rest. He saw that Cinder was giving out food and tea. "Shouldn't we get out of here?" He asked. "Cus the death in the area could attract all kind of things, and the stink...." He said while softly putting Zarea down.
