But HOW? Spiders are worshipped by these Priestesses! HOw can the term "Spider-kisser" be anything but complimenting? ... of course, to a Priestess of Eilistraee, fro example, it would indeed be insulting, but not for one of Llolth![/quote:kn10g4nz]
Well respect for spiders is not quite the same thing as kissing a spider. Perhaps in human terms something like calling a person a dog kisser. Few people actual kiss their dog, a few more let a dog lick thier face (and call it a kiss), most as best I can tell avoid such close contact with their dogs.
Spider kisser clearly can be an insult to the Lolth worshiping Drow, as they do not kiss sprders. The implication of course is that they are equal to or less then a spider.

But in the WOTSQ, it said that all drow were taught to give their life to any hungry spider (For example), so wouldn't that just be underlining the fact that Llolth worshippers are dirt compared to Spiders and that to ignore a spider in need is to get out of Llolth's Favour? I'm starting to get what you mean by saying "rude", but I still don't get how a Priestess of Llolth would find it that rude ...

Am I the only one who doesn't know what a spider kisser is?[/quote:2esmen7m]
Well I was online for a long time before I saw the term.
IAE a "spider kisser" refers to a worshipper of Lolth
Oh the term clearly is not racist as some Drow use the term to apply to other Drow. It though clearly an insult to followers of Lolth.[/quote:2esmen7m]
I never stated that the term bothers me. But it is clearly meant to be offensive. Anyways. What happened to the role play? It just kinda slowed to near halt.

Because a preistess of Lloth demands respect, and expects to be referred to by one of her proper titles, as is her due-- not referred to with a derisive term that indicates she copulates with spiders.
And yes, while all drow are taught to give their lives to a hungry spider (according to WOTSQ, can't recall seeing that anywhere else ever), they really would only expect males and weaklings to do so. A strong and cunning priestess would never do such a thing. No. Way. She would feed the spider by giving it someone ELSE to feed on. and THAT, would earn her favour from Lolth.
{edit: Keep in mind as well that in most drow city-states ruled by the clergy of Lolth, the drow are told that there ARE no other drow gods. The term 'spiderkisser' is used by Drow who do not worship the Spiderbitch, to refer to those that do. Which implies that not all drow DO worship the Spider Queen. Which, in the eyes of most of her clergy, is a [b:2e6h29jh]deep blasphemy[/b:2e6h29jh]. Which is exactly why the term is so popular amongst the Children of the Masked Lord of Night. }
Hope that answers your question.
