What happened to that Drow Cleric with the strange name?

Not really posting an absence, but whatever.

So after the december holidays, where work effectively doubles if not triples in the store i work in, the new year settles in. Now, i'd like to have said it would have gone off on a good start, but i'd be lying.

It sucked royally so far, basically.

First off, i couldn't get some time off due to me being the only person at the store that could both be missed from the store itself and still be trusted with a calculator. Yup, we finished the general inventory, and i'm stuck with adding everything up for the next week or so at least. Everything's written by hand, and some of the handwriting i get to make out numbers from is horrible.

Then work ends, and i get home.

Now, usually less than fifteen minutes after getting here, a guy i know drops by with his computer game problems. He's been unemployed all his life (medically discharged), and as such can't really understand why people would want to go to work. And he drops by my place five times a day at least asking if i can download something for him, or if i want to come along and play computer games at his house. While i enjoy computer games, i sometimes would like some rest, causing me to forcibly pretend i'm not home at times. This generally continues up to 1 am.

But that's not all.

Meet Norton 360. Legal version, of course. First, it uninstalls my old Norton utilities because it's a newer version. I'm used to it doing that, since it's not the first time i bought it. Thing is... It didn't install anything, just gave an error that there were still Norton apps installed (which there weren't), and links me to the support website for that error code.

The options listed (tried them all at least a dozen times each) didn't work. Neither did support, though after some veiled threats to download an illegal version next time they did help me restore the cd and dvd drives the cd installer had kicked out (thus being unable to read its own installation) by corrupting the registry entry for my cd drivers. Took six hours to fix.

Eventually, Hijackthis managed to spot a few leftover processes, which i then removed. 'Lo and behold, i had to enter my product key now... Needless to say, it claimed it was already in use: What the F**K. To make matters worse, a full scan by a -- hastily downloaded -- Windows Defender found two Trojans and an IRC logger on my comp, and i have files on here that were hard to find.

To this day, i don't have a working antivirus and firewall save for the standard Windows stuff. My video card now requires no less than three reboots before the driver stops crashing, locking my comp on startup every time i turn the power on, showing me that it is indeed getting old. No rest from there either.

Since all of this is starting to deteriorate my health, i then try bringing it up to both work (for a few days off) and said person (for some nights on my own), yet both apparently seem to think i'm drowning in free time, almost to the point of thinking i stare at a blind wall all evening. And point at each other in a very "Just let him/them rot for a few days.". Which i don't do, because i'm bnot the most assertive person on the planet to say the least, and have a hard time turning people down.

Add to that me hearing a few days ago that my uncle's been diagnosed with intestinal cancer (yes, it's spread, he needs chemo), and you can understand why i currently am trying very hard not to go psycho while trying to ram myself back on track.

So how was your month?

-----

Now, i need to say that i still like roleplaying here with all my characters, and have no intention whatsoever of leaving this forum. It's just that at the moment, it feels as if adding my old posting schedules into the mix would cause everything to overflow as i go over my limit, and might end up doing things i'd regret later on.

-----

And, one day after originally posting this, i fell down a flight of stairs, lost my balance almost at the top and fell on my ass six steps down. On the edge of another step. No bones broken, but it happened a few days back and i'm still somewhat sore ^^;

So yeah, if you were wondering what happened to me, this is it. I do still plan on returning here, but (thankfully) my characterwas unconscious as per my last post, so feel free to keep it that way for a while until i'm ready to return again.

Quin, Malek, sorry for suddenly stopping to post when i had just started again though... I got kind of overwhelmed there ._.

I haven't used a virus scanner in a long time. Decided on this because when I had one it never actually caught anything (except for a spam email or two I pretty much already guessed would be a virus and would never have opened anyway). I think that if you know what you're doing and are careful and sensible then you don't really have much to fear anyway. And I've got my computer protected in other ways (like using FireFox with AdBlock Plus and NoScript, as well as using PeerGuardian and having two firewall; the Windows one and the one in my Router).

Still, there's also quite good free antivirus software out there. Used one for a while which seemed quite good, though I don't recall the name of it. At the very least you don't have registration issues with those generally.

Anyway, get things back in order in your life. We'll be here whenever you have the time, whenever you decide to get back. After all, this place is for people to enjoy themselves. Wouldn't do if people felt forced to come here. Though we do appreciate you letting us know what's going on in your life and all. :)

Oh, and hope your bum will stop feeling sore soon. ;)

Love -x-x-x-

For a moment there I thought my life was miserable. Don't know how you react to any cheer ups, anyway, you'll manage. You're strong.

Well, thanks for the good wishes all. Though not quite back to normal, it's at least down to a point where i can afford taking up roleplaying again ^_^.

So umm... Miss much? <.<;;

Just read everything, and made a post involving Maya waking up. I didn't really know what your mother looks like, so i kept the description deliberately vague, and i'll leave the rest up to you again :P

NOD 32 FTW. For the past 3 or 4 years, it's scored 98% and higher on EVERY test PC User (Australia) has thrown at it. It uses less resources than Snortons, is one of the quickest to scan files, and probably costs less too. It's also rated highly by other anti virus testing bodies.

As for the guy bothering you, answer the door in your underwear with a "bloody" knife and ask "are you here for the sacrifice?" I bet he won't bother you again. Or you could be diplomatic and tell him to "fuck off" (oh no, I swore!)

Work.. point out how valuable you are to the place, and let them know if they WON'T give you a few days off, you'll walk.

As for your uncle, sorry to hear (read?) that. My grandmother fought cancer for a few years. Thankfully, she survived, though she can't fight old age :|

As for falling down the stairs.. HAHA! Your character? I stabbed 'em with a +3 vorpal butter knife :\ Sorry, they failed their reflex save.

Umm. Now for the real advice. Be assertive, both with work AND "the guy next door". It's hard at first, if you're a naturally submissive person. But subjecting yourself to the kind of emotional and mental stress you are is NOT good. Take it from someone who's been there and done that. And is still living through it, actually. Anyway.. if you have to, rehearse what you're going to say.

oh, and watch some funny movies. RLY! If you're laughing your guts out, you won't have time to be pulled down by this.

I'm Dr Ikphukiir, the fee for this consultation will be in the next mail. I accept cash, cheque, and VISA only.

Well yeah, i can handle it no probs, it just gets a little too much at times when everything seems to happen at once.

Either way, about the funny stuff, here's something that really brightened my day yesterday ^^
