denizens of the temple, I hope you all had safe, happy, and great winter solstice, as for me I received many gifts :D including a champions of valor book which leads me to the point of this post:

while looking at the classes and prestige classes I naruely came upon the eilistraee oriented ones

crescent moon knight (Paladin)

darksong knight (fighter)

but I didn’t seen one for a ranger(which I find a wee bit odd since eilistraee is a goddess of hunting and sword work among other things) so maturely I came here to ask if any one had any suggestions about how to go about this and what the class
should have, so any and all ideas would be nice thanks :)

Well it is something I consider a major drawback of the entire system, all the different prestiege classes amd you can't really make up your mind. Creating even more classes is kinda... well. But I'll keep it in mind.

I think that prestige classes are supposed to [i:3f1vv5av]not[/i:3f1vv5av] be specific to a single class. While not all classes might be able to, multiple classes should be able to meet the requirements for getting the prestige class. As such, a Ranger should be able to take the Darksong Knight class as well (or the Sword Dancer prestige class since Rangers can also cast divine spells). It might be harder for some classes than others though, particularly with cross-class skills (which I consider a shortcoming of the skill system and not directly of the prestige class system; I feel that ever class should be able to learn most every skill equally).

Anyway, I get what you're asking for I think; an Eilistraeen prestige class that seems particularly useful for rangers (though also useful for other classes).

As such the question becomes what the theme of the class should be. I think having a good theme is more important than trying to design a prestige class for a specific class. "Hunting" of itself is too generic to be a theme and I'm sure that there are already some general prestige classes that serve that purpose. Another idea might be some kind of Underdark ranger (and it wouldn't surprise me if such already exists), though that wouldn't really be Eilistraee-specific. The role of a hunter who hunts minions of Lolth (going into the Demonweb Pits and kill Yochlol and such) you've already got in the Darksong Knight.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head would be something to do with The High Hunt (event held once every season where follows of Eilistraee go into the night to hunt some beast; with priestesses doing so unclothed and only using a sword). But I'm not sure that's entirely suitable. Perhaps taking that theme a class that fights unclothed using only a sword even outside the High Hunt (something like a "High Huntress"), but that seems a bit weak for a theme.

Another idea might be something based on The Run; this is something where at least once a year followers dress themselves up as drow (if they aren't already) and go to places they haven't been to before to try and foster acceptance (instead of preaching faith). I could see a prestige class focused on that purpose; living off the land and the kindness of strangers, some diplomatic skills and such to foster acceptance and keep from being killed outright. Might have a simple ability to take on drow appearance (which would be useless to those that are already drow). Might be something that we could work with.

Either way, there's some ideas to start off with I hope. :)

MOST prestige classes are open ended so that just about anyone can take them but there are a few out there designed specifically for certain classes.

and now that you mention it certain claes can be useful to myself and rangers including the few eilistreain presage claes available to us, granted the hunting them was one of the tents I had in mind for my prestige your right there are many prestige clese out there that already pertain to "hunting" I just thought eilistree should have one(its in her portfolio after all) and now that I really look back at it the eilistrean presage classes that are available can work (..if I tweak a few things here and there...)

as for a prestige class baes on the "high hunt" game-play wise it might not really work(its rather limited in its usage, it like a player taking an NPC class they can but its not really worth and again its really made for NPCs. I can see it being used by a NPC at an eilistreain temple but not for a PC) but RP wise they’d be great however I can see a prestige class based on "The Run" working out in both the RP and game play aspects I would love if you could elaborate and give me some ideas for a prestige class based on "the run"

thanks for the help Shil'le I now know that I don’t need an eilistree ranger specific prestige class but as I said the idea for a prestige class based on "the run" as intrigued me to no end and I like to see what had in mind for something like that.

thanks
