WW II

Post by Argoth »

So the anniversary of the beginning of WW II has passed. On the 1st of September German troops entered Polish borders starting World War II. A rash decision, completely insane not only because any war is considered insane, but even because of economical purposes. Hitler's rain brought complete recession upon the Germans. Their plan to conquer Europe to have their precious 'lebensraum' was doomed to fail, simply because they spent almost all they had on weaponry and they had too little troops to maintain peace within extended borders. They used local governments that collaborated with them to govern the conquered territories, even in France for example which was a direct neighbor. Extending their reign upon Poland, Ukraine, Belarus etc was simply impossible. The war couldn't be won. And even should they win, they wouldn't remain in power for long.

But the saddest thing is the fate of my fellow countrymen. 1st September, Germany attacks. All the kids didn't go to school that day. Many of them joined the army and fought equally brave as their adult friends, often parents and grandparents. On 17th September, Soviets entered Poland from the East. Poland was ripped apart, again.

Napoleon thought better than that. He wanted a strong Poland in Europe, tied with France by means of an alliance. It was the only way to keep Russians under control. Little does anyone know, or their not interested, that Napoleon Bonaparte gave Poles as much sovereignty as he could. Still, the little autonomy fell and Poland was erased from Europe's map for 123 years. After the Great War it was resurrected for 20 years, till WW II.

I had a unique opportunity to listen to some music about some battles during WW II. For example: the Battle of Wizna. A garrison of Polish troops fought for 4 days (7-10 September 1939) against the invading Germans. They were outnumbered 40:1... and succeeded. This is a tribute by Sabaton:

Finally, when the Warsaw Uprising broke out in August 1944, the Soviets came to Warsaw. They stopped on the east side of the Vistula river...and waited for the Germans to exterminate the Poles. Then they entered and "liberated" the city.

Poland fell under Soviet rule and became a member of the USSR for more than 40 years...

That's enough for now.
