How to handle the end of Lady Penitant

Technically yes, but that was when there was a multitude of deities. One less or one brought back didn't make much of a difference. Now it can get a little tricky, providing all the ambiguity regarding which elves are drow, which are lythiiri, and what happens in case Eilistraee actually does get resurrected and drow decide to convert? Or when a drow decides the prick god Corellon, does he/she became lythiiri, as Daddy absorbed Eilistraee's portfolio?
No, seriously, I still don't get it. Drow are forever doomed and belong to Lolth. Their evil by default. The ones that followed Eilsitraee are redeemed and become lythiiri. So does that mean that till the lythiiri die out there are two kinds of dark elves? See? This is sick, I can't even state the problem properly.

That is a way to go. Still have her followers resemble dark skinned-dark haired wood or sun elve to really separate them from the followers of Lolth the betrayer. In Neverwinter Nights 2/ MotB/ SoZ I have been playing with the Elven color pallets to see what we would lood like according to he discriptions I have read on the Forgotten Realms Wiki. A version of Nedylene I made doing this looks just as cool as her drow version.
Drow on the Surface face as many dangers as those in the Underdark. Just because the Rivvil is friendly does not mean he wishes to help you, he may just want to get you off guard before knifing you.

Well, its not just been turned into wow, they killed off the only really interesting deities in faerun; eilistraee, mystra, azoth, and tyr. Seriously, how much inspiration of books and creative novels, and so forth been made from those deities? Ten times as much as those other deities, that's to be sure, and they go and kill off these legendary figures? Why? I mean.. they have brutality destroyed my game. ; ;

How to handle the end of Lady Penitant:
Go on the same way you did before the book was published.
For good measure, slip a redknee in Smedman's mailbox.

All evodence indicates she was following orders, do not blame the messenger. WotC likely gave her orders kill one Drow deity a book (moght have indicated the order of death as well). Writting books does not pay all that well, writing a book that does not serve publisher desire never gets printed and author earns nothing.
Leave Lisa alone she was just doing a dirty job as best she could.

I agree with Bhearn with all my heart. A writer's life isn't what it used to be. You follow the editor's/publisher's orders, you get printed, you get payed, you've got food for the period of writing another book. They get payed once, selling the story at a rate... well 20 C per word is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much. I don't know what's the usual pay, but I think it's safe to assume the get 10 C per word, in this genre, let's say.
Don't think anyone could have done better in such a situation. Sadly.

I may roll with the blow write a story about one of my gaming characters. I have as many may have noted if they follow the Return to Faerun thread let it slip that Nedylene is Corellon's daughter with a mortal Drow. Her mother is who Nedylene is named for. Nedylene is surface born from a family that can trace its roots back to the northern Dark Elf and Green Elf kingdom that is now the High Moor.
I am beginning with the conquest of their homeland by the Gold Elves. Then after I have done the prolog that will show the birth of House Vrinn later to be House Rahn, I will go right into the rise of House Rahn from the ashes of House Vrinn. I will write about Nedylene's rise to become the Argent Maid. The conclusion of the first part will be Nedylene's conversion into the form of her ancestors. (I have experimented in NWN-2 and judging from discriptions from the Forgotten Realms Wiki, Dark Elves essentially resemble either dark-skinned, dark haired Sun Elves or Wood Elves. Judging from behavior I suspect that the Sun Elf template is closer to what the original Dark Elves were if one wants to build a PW in NWN-2 to reflect this change.) In the story I have not decided where to take it, I am one that writes what flows through my mind as I write.

First off: Gah! The forum ate my post!
Secondly, you've convinced me to spare her but the employer will not be so lucky...

I have to agree that WotC most likely forced lisa's hand honestly that entire series seemed... forced, like the author themselves didn't like half of what was being written. Bleh I'm just irritated that the Drow pantheon got annihilated. That and the way Eiliestraee died... it really was ind of anti-climactic.
On a side note Hey guys , i haven't been on in forever(not that i was around too long in the first place) I just felt like venting some displeasure with WotC so don't mind me at all

I agree with ignoring what was done to Eilistraee.
As a system mechanically, 4th Edition is a superior [i:vkykpkar]game[/i:vkykpkar] compared to past editions. Classes are MUCH more balanced then they have been so everyone gets a chance to shine (which I would hope people would all want, rather then having certain classes/builds just be flat out better then everyone else, balance is a good thing)
I can't say much for what they did with the FR as a whole though, but that's easily fixed.
Heck, I've even designed a Divine Feat for Eilistraee followers for my 4th edition game.
All in all, I ignore what happened but take the superior balance of game mechanics and make the universe I play in my own.
