A while ago I was looking at the shadowcaster class (and the follow-on classes that also use mystery casting, or work from it) and it occurs to me that, with one maybe two exceptions, they're all staggeringly weak. Has anyone here played one, and if so how did you manage to compensate for the hugely underpowered design?
I adore the flavour of the classes, but without a fix of some sort I can't really consider them for use.
FYI, the class(es) that I rate as good were the shadowsmith and debatably another which I don't remember the name of that specialised in counterspelling.[/size:1lgdoox7]

I must say that I've never played any of those classes (or know of anyone who did), so I'm afraid I'm not of much use.
