Apparently it wasn't [i:3r9y27ms]his[/i:3r9y27ms] job to pick it up either. ;)

Only four monkeys short.

I wonder if we're soon all going to die from a deadly toxin. :p

Darth Vader' strikes NY bank[/size:13sup9x9]

The Force was with a man when he robbed a bank wearing a Darth Vader mask and a cape.

Armed with a gun instead of a lightsaber, the man entered a Chase bank branch in Setauket, New York, about 80km east of New York City, on Thursday and demanded cash from a teller, police said.

He fled through a parking lot with an undisclosed amount of money.

The bandit dressed as the "Star Wars" villain was part of a mini-outbreak of unusual bank robbers in the New York area.

Earlier this week, New York City police arrested a man accused of robbing two banks with a bunch of flowers and a potted plant.

I saw that news, yes. Though I think that I prefer this Star Wars story:

[youtube:1x1s5x4o]J5gCeWEGiQI[/youtube:1x1s5x4o]

(Noticed on The Escapist[/url:1x1s5x4o]. Also, outtakes[/url:1x1s5x4o])

In other news, sometimes the actions of geeks are truly wonderful. As noted by the Escapist[/url:1x1s5x4o]:

[quote:1x1s5x4o]
<div class="inline_right" style="float: right;"><img src="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/images/ ... /67784.jpg" alt="image" border="0" height="263" width="350"></div><p><strong>When the Westboro Baptist Church showed up to protest San Diego Comic-Con 2010, the SDCC con-goers showed up to protest right back - and they had much better signs.</strong></p>
<p>About <a href="http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/vi ... ol-Worship" title="">two weeks ago</a>, we learned that the hateful protest-happy Westboro Baptist Church would be picketing this weekend's San Diego Comic-Con because it equated comic-book fans loving Superman with idol worship or something like that. Well, the WBC showed up as promised - only they weren't the only ones holding protest signs.</p>
<p>Comic-Con attendees were there in full force to hold a peaceful counter-protest, and according to one <a href="http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/22/ ... st-church/" title="">self-described "embedded journalist,"</a> the Westboro Church members were "outnumbered, outgunned and police-protected." Their signs were also significantly more boring, with the usual "God hates the USA/Gays/the Troops/Muslims/etc."</p>
<p>Meanwhile, the Comic-Con crowd had some genuinely entertaining signs. The <em>TF2</em> Spy proclaimed that the Almighty "[Hated] Sentries," an anti-mutant activist exhorted Congress to "Pass the Mutant Registration Act Now," and someone else just reassured everybody that God did, in fact, love "Gay Robin."</p>
<p>And then there was Commander Shepard, endorsing this as their "<a href="http://www.bleedingcool.com/wp-content/ ... 101195.jpg" title="">favorite protest on the Citadel</a>."</p>
<p>Thanks to the creative signs and funny costumes - where else will you see a pink <em>TF2</em> Pyro protesting alongside Lady Gaga? - I think it's clear to say that in this case, good old-fashioned human compassion and peaceful-if-sarcastic humor beat out rampant hatred. </p>
<p>Nerds 1, Westboro Baptist 0.</p>
<p>(Many more pictures: <a href="http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/07/22/ ... st-church/" title="">BleedingCool</a>)</p>
[/quote:1x1s5x4o]
Best response to hatemongering I've seen. :)

[i:2crgvxai]Every gardener loves the satisfaction of creating a well-crafted design on his front lawn with just a few pushes of the old John Deere. Wilkinson and JWT are apparently banking on this love-of-gardening frenzy to transfer to other lawns, those more, ahem, south of the border. Innuendo and subtlety do the trick nicely in this ad for the new Wilkinson Sword for women. Too bad this gardening technique will never make it to HGTV.[/i:2crgvxai]

I thought this blooper[/url:2gx3skwp] was pretty funny:

[quote:2gx3skwp][b:2gx3skwp]According to a German news station, the operatives who killed Al-Qaeda's leader weren't US Navy SEALs. In fact, they weren't even from this century.[/b:2gx3skwp]

[img:2gx3skwp]http://cdn.themis-media.com/media/globa ... /55851.jpg[/img:2gx3skwp]

It was slightly over a week ago that the world learned that an American strike team had killed #1 Most Wanted Osama Bin Laden in a covert operation in Pakistan. Given the speed of the internet, it's surprising that it took this long for the world to learn of the following blooper:

German news station N24[/url:2gx3skwp] was quick to report on the death of Bin Laden at the hands of Navy SEALs. In its rush, however, N24 could not apparently find the actual logo for Navy SEAL Team Six, and instead used the logo for the Maquis Special Operations Seals Team VI. Which wouldn't be so bad, except the Maquis' Seals Team VI is actually a group of terrorists.

More specifically, they're a group of terrorists from the 24th century on [i:2gx3skwp]Star Trek[/i:2gx3skwp]. Whoops.

According to TrekMovie.com[/url:2gx3skwp], presenter Mick Locher even commented on the logo: "They don't have the skull in their emblem for nothing." Except that the skull is clearly that of a Klingon, surrounded by the Klingon's ancestral [i:2gx3skwp]bat'leth[/i:2gx3skwp] weapon. And the eagle in the middle is holding what looks to be a phaser.

Oh, and apparently, the logo itself wasn't actually official, but rather the work of devoted [i:2gx3skwp]Star Trek[/i:2gx3skwp] fans, completing the cycle of failure. This is just one of those things where you just kind of shift in your chair because it's a bit awkward. Awkward, and also hilarious.
