I honestly couldn't tolerate even listening to half of that.....

The lyrics were too direct. They should be more cryptic, so that it has the ability to allow people to interprit it their own way, and thus have it mean something to themselves.

The voice was not much better than mine, and thats saying something.

Of course, this is all simply my own oppinion. Which never means much.

Ah, well I never thought Jonny Cash could write songs or sing. So I stand by my statement. There is no call for insults.

*Smothers a small smile* To each their own. For me, the song was well chosen, and that goes for the clips used also. Anything that can bring unshed tears to my eyes is voted to be of quality in my book.

I think what I like best is the humanizing factor the combination lends to Anakin's character, overall. Even with the newest trilogy out in stores, not everyone has fully grasped the trials he endured and the pain he kept hidden away behind his mask.

Which brings up a random point, one which is part of the reason I've always been drawn to Eilistraee, actually. Music speaks to us on a level that no other form of communication can. It can be primal, a feral rush of adrenaline or nerve sizzling lust. It can calm our frazzled nerves to near slumber. Such as in this recent case, for myself, it can touch upon our inner selves and bring forth a better understanding of something, or someone, that we thought we already knew. Music truly is one of the more influential domains, one I consider underappreciated by the majority of the D&D roleplaying community.

Heh. My, I rambled quite a bit there, didn't I?

I agree with Erelae. Music influences us, negatively or positively, and--at least for me--my soul shivers in glee when the song is good or I can relate to it even partially. That is how I find bands, I listen to one of their songs, and if I feel something, I automatically look for more of their works to see if I get the same sensation.

The song was good, and it fit Vader well, but meh, I agree that Cash's voice isn't the best in the world. The guy who played him in Walk the Line sung alot better

I'll agree with the way music can influence people. I'll offten have a song I think suits one of my characters, and will play it to 'get into their head' as I am writing about them.

I'll not go on about disliking Jonny Cash, I can see why many even like his music, it simply doesn't appeal to me.

But there is no need to be sarcastic about it. I simply loath much music, and tend to be quite picky. I am that way about most things, the pedantic, picky bastard that I am...

I'll also say, that I didn't like starwars much. So the clip itself didn't touch me either. But each to their own.

Anyway, I think I'll leave before someone bites my head off..

Well I'd say that there are two types of influence. First, I listen to music when the lyrics are fun, or I find myself in them. The other way is when I listen to a band just to hear the band, and not hear the words couse they're really stupid, or I don't agree with the message. Either way, I have to agree on the influence it has. Sometimes two sentences of a poem can say everything on what goes on in my tortured soul, better than rivers of words I could write.

I personally have a wide selection of Cash in my music arsenal. I think the thing with his style of music is the fact that his voice comes across so seemingly "unrefined" and the words he bends with it come across in a truly unique way. The quote "Sharp like a razor, steady like a freight train", were used to do describe this in a way. The way he can hold the audience with an almost swooning melody while he propels imagery at them.

The song Hurt, originally written by Trent Reznor, was hailed as his, "Best most introspective piece of song writing", but upon seeing the video of Hurt done by Cash in 2002 Reznor replied, "reinterpreted by a music legend from a radically different era/genre and still retains sincerity and meaning—different, but every bit as pure."

I think this kind goes along with what some of you are saying about music and its effect on you.

I for one love the song, as done by both artist, but find the Cash version grittier, which seems to impact on me more.
Seeing "The Man in Back" clip set to the Cash version was a delight. Especially being a Vader fan

(as he turns his iPod to his Cash playlist)
