Re: D&D to remove inherently evil races

It doesn't seem you're really disagreeing with me, though. You said it yourself: once they turn against each other, they fall. Once they can't get cooperation down, they fall. Once they get fragmented, they fall. Ultimately, cooperation is what allowed humanity to rise from primitive status into ci...

Re: D&D to remove inherently evil races

That's the explanation provided in some editions, yes, but it doesn't work. At all. Humans have thrived in hostile environments by cooperating and helping each other. Developments, technology, and civilization only became possible because of this. Forming groups based on cooperation; the reason why...

Re: Game Designer's Curiosity: What is your Preferred Edition?

3.5 no contest. Played d&d, one of friends in junior high had his older brother's set. Then we moved up to 2nd E for a short bit. Funny side story got a job once because I told the interviewer that I could calculate THAC0. He was impressed when I did it. But 3rd/3.5 is my jam. It gives the most ...

Re: D&D to remove inherently evil races

I always took it the drow were mostly evil because they live in such a tough place and that required a level of pragmatism that excludes the good tag in a character's alignment(Papers please or This war of mine style). The infighting and internal strife was based on lolth's desires. These two factor...

Re: Role play feats question

So, beat a Yochlol with my bare hands last night while I was working at a Lathandern soup kitchen. Hell of a fight. Caught me without my combat gear. Turned into a fight scene from Mr. Nice guy (the Jackie Chan one). I might have gotten the attention of a handmaiden of the spider queen (I mean one w...

Re: A new lore video since our lady's revival...

It was actually this video that got me looking around for more resources on how to better play my character.

Re: Role play feats question

Considering how bad the drow have behaved in the Dalelands/cormanthor area, I get why people behave like that. Plus it makes for good roleplay. But thanks for your ideas in the two posts. :)

Re: A suiter

Well that's the thing. Every character in the game world passes through a filter that is the reader/gamer. And that's after these characters have been filtered by the staff at WOTC/Hasbro. Say Author X has an idea for a character Roberto Awesomepants and puts it into the next splat book. However som...

Re: What Sacrafice did Sehanine make to escape Vhauren?

I would think she'd appeal to his lust for power, and offer him something he could use in that regard. But it's hard to tell. Power isn't a goal, it a tool used to achieve some goal. So this trade couldn't have been about overthrowing his mother then. Ratting mom out to dad would have been easier an...

Gods in the realms, changed on your games.

Another thread is talking about suitors for Eilistraee. Some of the suggestions seemed a little out there to me, but then I got to thinking about how the gods change for different stories, different editions, different authors, and finally different gaming groups. For example, and not wanting to tre...

Re: A suiter

Yeah... I guess I could see mielikki. Selune is kind of hard to see as her character is all over the place depending on the Edition, author and the needs of the story. In the same way Eilistraee is so out of character in the lady p series. However, given that the gods can move so far away from their...

Re: Half-Drow

I'm currently playing a critani half-off (drow) from Dambrath. It's covered in 3.5 book shining south. Additionally there are a couple of feats in the races of Faerun. Both have significant write ups on the sub-race.

I guess I can see that. Maybe the morning lord then? He won't hold any of the racism that other gods seem to vent at her. And he is a party boy par excellent.

Re: Role play feats question

Fair point. And thank you. So, except myself everyone else has at least 2 fighter levels, with a substitution level of dark song fighter at second level. That's from the champions of valor book (I think) and they all have a daylight tolerance feat as well. They all have to be around level 8 or so. I...
