[Campaign] A Story of Revenge: Questions and Answers.

Post by Rainbow Prism »

First there was thunder. Then came crash and scared yelp.

Cracking bolts of lighting would be common in Nether mountains, if not for three things. First was little height. Second was season, heavy snow falling with Midwinter taking the marches. Then, the most obvious reason - it is never normal when lighting strikes from wand of angry human wizard, red cowled robe fluttering on cold wind. His bearded face with accurately groomed mustaches would attract many village beauties if not for mask of rage that was twisting seemingly gentle face in smirk that would be more fitting to hobgoblin or savage troll.

"Stand still, you diminutive bag of giant dung!" He shrieked with nonstandard for his profession agitation at the object of his attention that was moving from one rock to another with incredible speed and agility. Even for halfling, this little man was light on his foot just as namesake of his kind said. Short legs sprinted miniature humanoid away from harm of lighting bolts thrown at him.
Those few aimed shots that rocked the footing of mountain would be his death if not for spectacular flips and somersaults from one obstacle to another, each showing that this individual had training beyond simple thief or warrior. Each giant boulder could not protect him for long, crackling arcane energies destroying stones as if they were sculpted of frail glass. This did not improve terrorized victim's already evolving state of panic.
There was no way to shake off the assailant. Already little muscled legs were feeling like they were tied to nuggets of lead. Not to mention the exhaustion from weeks of hounding by various groups. And this ambush in mountains could be fatal if he did not move farther than mage anticipated, beyond layers of traps in open rocky field. Backpack on his shoulder also was not so light.
Bolt of electricity smacked ground in front of his next leap. Screaming, he lost his concentration, slipping and falling with his back on solid fossil. Despite dire mistake that may cost his life, his body twisted in air not to lessen the impact of slam, but taking good grip on bag, as if it was full of fragile and expensive gems. Groaning and trying to regain breath that was taken from his lungs by the fall, halfling saw with glance of his sharp sight his doom in shape of highfolk aiming at him with magical device. Sadistic glee of smile on bronze face that was plastered on balding head did not leave any hopes of surviving this.
"[color=#FF8000:1qrzqv36]Arvoreen help me![/color:1qrzqv36]" His intended whisper became scream echoing in empty heights. This, however, looked like another unanswered call, like many other times.

And yet again it all was in his hands. There was little time for maneuvers with danger so close for comfort. Just some pebble on the ground from destroyed cliffs.
Energy focusing on the point with ruby glow and sudden heat told him that this will have to do. Quickly grabbing most suitable swift projectile, nimble hand thrown it in fluid motion. The stone whistled through air with amazing speed in face of assailant. Blood splashed and roar of pain echoed in lone heights. The aim of magic wand was shifted to the side, arc of lighting flying above plastered hin. Taking this lucky opportunity to flee on safe distance, halfling did not see how caster took out another wand, now having each hand equipped with magic doom bringer. He did however hear litany of curses mixed with gibberish words. That was never good sign to hear from furious mage. Taking instinctive decision to jump away, traveler managed in time to escape both thunderbolt and wave of searing explosion.
Soon, what was looking as cataclysmic storm close to footing of mount, now was clearly identified as unnatural spectacle of colors as enraged wizard continued blasting spells in rapid succession in attempt to destroy annoying pest. So mad he was that many of fireballs he thrown swished far from target, falling down from mountain in rain of exploding meteors.

[url=http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o125 ... g:9hxbpfvo]Silvery black fur[/url:9hxbpfvo] contrasted sharply with the pure while snow in the open flat areas. She ran across as easy as a true wolf did, the white furred rabbit bounding in zig zags to escape becoming lunch. Ariali loved to chase prey in her wolf form, love the feel of running wild and free.
Even if this freedom sometimes reminded her of her clan back on Evermeet and saddened her that she was not with them at the moment. But she was spending time to learn of the world before she returned to her people. Not next in line for relative leadership, it had been expected that the children begin to experience the world for a few years then come home.
For now her focus was directly on that long eared rodent. large paws made for skimming across carried her just on top of it, teeth preparing to reach out when the flashes of magic and sounds of a storm mingled with scream not to far reached her ears. the lythari slowed, the rabbit forgotten and now gone. Ariali glanced around, golden orbs scanning everywhere, her elven sensed heightened in her wolf form, then climbed up onto a large boulder to survey the area.
Then without thought to her well being scurried the direction it came from, hoping and praying to the Moon Maidens she could reach whoever was in need as quick as she could.

The thundering booms continued to echo on the low grounds near the footing. Halfling was trying to shake off pursuit, but with no luck. Taking fall behind another of remaining obstacles, he barely was fast enough to note familiar figure in the air. Wizard cackled, levitating against snowflakes with arcane grace, carefully aiming with his devices, not in the slightest disturbed by natural obstacle. Recoiling his lead-heavy legs to jump away in roll, short humanoid avoided scorching and electrocuting at the same time. A slip on icy surface cost him dearly, though.
"Now, endgame!" Spellcaster grinned with finality. His enemy was prone, not able to evade next shot. His choice of final demise ironically was savior of his victim.
Wand with glowing quartz crystal fizzled with one spark to die as another artifact with no traces of magic power. Angered assassin thrown useless stick away, aiming with second weapon, only to find it missing at now recovered hin. Although now up and with certain advantage now, there was little place to hide from flying assailant on now near flat cliffs with several rocks, not big enough to provide suitable defensive point against such mobile enemy.

the black furred blur raced across, and with a leap she sprang on the attacker to knock him down beneath her heavy muscular weight. Claws, unretractable like a cat, slammed first, her teeth bared and right in his face, gold eyes boring into his. Her growl a warning that the slightest move could cost him his life. Inside she hated this, Lythari's were pacifist, only fighting as a last option. She hoped the halfling took this advantage to run.

Too careless, mage was floating not really that far from rocky ground. Feeling sudden impact of strong body, startled wizard met growling canine maw in few inches from his nose. Still, he maintained his concentration, keeping both animal and enforcer in midair, floating horizontally. Eyes of this man met stare of golden orbs, fear changing to malice. Sudden flip of his wrist inverted grip on magic wand, directing it on himself.
"Burn in hell, stupid critter! " Came throaty curse when wand charged with energy, glowing to unleash big fire ball on himself and beast on him. [wand spell: Fireball]
Sprawled behind remaining rocks, hin looked out from behind obstacle to see the reason of implosion engulfing his pursuer instead of him.

Teethy maw reached over to grab the wand and hand together then to release herself from the floating wizard. Ariali didnt register how much this was going to hurt herself, right now worried about the little guy.

The spell erupted in blinding brilliance. Wave of fire washed over both wolf and mage, singing flesh and fur. The impact of blast hurt with direct power, attempt to grab wand not allowing to evade harmfull effect in time. In landing, muscles were barely felt beyond agonizing pain of burning skin, fur smoking in possibility of catching on fire. Wand in teeth looked like meager prize for such ordeal.

what the mage didnt know was the wolf was no mere animal. but boy did she hurt, unlike anything she'd felt before, (she also grabbed his hand along with the wand so i assume he's bleeding) and his blood was disgusting. she rolled into the snow to make sure no fire spred to burn her. she didnt get up right away, sending prayers to the Moon Maidens for help. She managed to her feet, er paws, to look the direction the mage was, to see what he was planing next. her mind was preparing a spell should she need it.

Place where corpse was supposed to land became spot of foul smoke. Wind for some reason could not break this gray shroud, as if something continued to smolder. There was no heavy thud to follow fall, leaving only sound of howling wind.
Still behind cover, hin cautiously looked out at scene and strange animal that stood up to face wizard. Holding sizable rock to toss, sharp eyes continued to watch.
Sudden chanting could be audible to be followed by strong shear of wind that dismissed fog. [Gust of Wind]
It presented the mage in state of cold calculating contemplation. Despite torn sleeve, the hand was as good as it could be, touching the beard in stroking motion, mocking the fact that it is and should be in only one place, torn away from body. Remarkably, not a piece of clothing was touched by explosion.
"Fascinating. This assignment will prove entertaining. Not just stupid dog, are you?"
Somehow, faced directly, he looked much more menacing.
"Now, say your prayers."

((i looked back, and i did sound like i took the hand off. i meant to mean it was sorta gashed or torn up due to teeth around it, but not necessarily off. if you wanna change it.
if the halfing gunna do anything or is he an NPC? just curious))

Ariali shook her head at the wind. She guessed enough to know he wasnt giving up. as he turned, the black wolf in that moment leaped far to the side twords a pile of rocks that looked to far away for her desire. large front paws landed onto the ground, followed by the back which perpelled her forward with surprising speed. behind them, she knew she only had seconds. instantaneously she was not there, as the [url=http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/dimens ... m:bm2nj4sr]spell[/url:bm2nj4sr]took place.

Eyes following the beast, mage did what he decided would be best against something mysterious. Passes of his hand and words repeated for as long as he remembered gave power to magic forming around him. [casts Displacement]
Now his features were not certain. Some kind of illusion made it hard to properly measure right distance and position of the caster.

((stupid question, shoulda asked sooner but i rarely play clerics so i forget, whats their alignment auras? are either evil? if the halfling is, i may have to change this, and if the wizard aint evil.... i may have to do a bit of editing/fixing))

the lythari was a good distance away, and over twords the halfling now. She did not want to fight, she like all her race abhored fighting; and she had only gotten involved because she sense the life death situation, and she hated life being taken. Ariali hopped to nudge the victim into moving, totally forgetting that she might have been a bit scary in her current form.

"What?!"
Last thing experienced mage expected was sudden disappearance of his enemy. That was not illusion, that far he could understand. Aware of possible ruse, beard flailed in quick jerks of head to quickly find his enemy.
Diminutive survivor lost grip on stone when wolf disappeared with small 'puff'. When wizard started to survey area, hin quickly ducked to not remind him of earlier errand. Looking around to find best escape way to flee unnoticed, his eyes were wide with both wonder and fear at notice of big black shadow running in his direction.
"[color=#FF8000:7ooh6akx]Oh, kobold pile of...[/color:7ooh6akx]" Getting on his feet, he quickly moved, hoping that he won't be noticed. That could be guaranteed.
"There you are!" angered mage bellowed, seeing so much noticeable black frame. Already his hands moved in trained manner, his distorted visage rippling from cracking of energy that powered next spell. Simplest, but effective when it came to finishing blow. Projectiles in form of sparkling red shards flew at the wolf from his cold fingertips, promising death with their malicious glow. [Magic Missile]

Her eyes as she looked at the halfling showed no no impression of danger, malice, or ferociousness, nothing like one would expect of a large wolf. In fact, her eyes looked sad and reminded one of a puppy. She was about to speak but only a yip came out. maybe it sounded like the word go.
she knew the magic was coming her way, and she lept as high and far as she could, bolts hitting her to knock her sideways, to skid on the snow. a boulder was close, and she rolled the rest of the way behind it. serious hurt leaning against the large stone, there was suddenly a burgandy haired- tan skinned elven woman, she returned to her elven form and cast a simple healing spell on herself (i'll let you decide if she gets seen by the halfling tho the wizard shouldnt yet). she knew a spell would be aimed for the boulder, and she closed her eyes dreading what might have to be done next, her hand going to the metal in reach. with elven grace, poked herself out enough and turned to throw it the round metallic disk (chakram), directing it like a frisbee for a less vital area so as to slow/stop him, but not kill him outright.

Metal disc whirled in it's flight to the spellcaster, whose blurred form tried to prepare defense against projectile. Still, the true steel was faster than words and gestures. However, this time it was true only to it's name and good intent, swishing over one visage too far from real position of mage to give anything than momentary panic and relief. Chakram moved in circular arc back to the thrower while mercenary finished his magic. Orange shimmer surrounded his mirage-like body to form into sturdy armor of arcane only to disappear from sight. [casts Mage Armor]
"Do not interfere, you walking corpse!" Unaware of anyone else who could use this weapon, wizard did not consider that instead of halfling, who was fleeing away from this place in hurry, his opponent was of rather more unusual kind.

Swiftly taking shortest way down the cliffs, little man moved in exhaustion, wanting nothing else other than being far away from all this. Taking moment to breath, cherubic face looked back at the rocks from which he descended and then at the bag he was protecting with such care.
