[Arena] Raiders in the grain fields.

Post by Rainbow Prism » Mon Jun 04, 2012 10:00 pm

Calm spring time in West Heartlands brought not only trade and goods. With them followed vultures of many kinds - bandits, brigands and cutthroats both human and monstrous. Today, they came to village before the caravan appeared in it. Before anyone could warn the residents.

Women cried out, leaving their work and hiding with children and elders. Men hurriedly yelled alarms and tried to save their families, be it in following their loved ones or standing up to pillagers with pitchforks and sickles. Not many could take this action and survive, but what could they do? Could they run away from their homes and lose everything they worked for, everything they scraped for in dirt with prayers and coins to gods of Toril? Like there will be a group of nameless heroes to save the day from assailants with jest and bold word!
Or won't there? The tavern door opened with loud crack, letting the braves or madmen inside to get a chance for heroics... Or the most hideous actions in moments of peril.

Gareth was standing in a nearby field, cherry blossom leaves from one of the nearby orchard swirled in the wind around him, he heard a high pitch scream coming from the distance, then silence, shortly the air was filled with a panicking noise, alarms being raised, and the thrilling sound of metal on metal, he ran over, and just past one of the fields he was relaxing in, he saw a farmer fighting a brigand, a large kitchen knife in one hand, and nothing in the other. Likely because he was missing the other one, the brigand took his already bloody sword and swung at the defenseless man. His sword jerked away and he stumbled, the farmer looked at the brigand, he had an arrow wedged in his neck, the arrow head stopping inches away from his face, the attacker fell to the ground. Gareth waved from the tree he was now positioned under. "Alright, lets dance, you bastards!" Gareth cried out in a frenzy, he put away his bow and took out his sword and shield, he ran down the field with the grace of a bird, raiders ran throughout the small farming village, attacking and looting everything in sight. Gareth took his sword in hand and took a huge swing, cutting down one of the raiders, the blade severing his head, another raider came behind Gareth with a knife, in one quick motion Gareth turned his sword and stabbed the raider in the stomach, he staggered and fell into the dust. Gareth started to make his way into the center of the village, and blocked two blunt arrows with his shield.

"Come on people! Who else has the courage to stand and fight? Follow me or get away from the battlefield!"

As the bandits reacted to this unexpected display or resistance, a horn sounded from across the field. From the treeline a shining figure burst into view riding a fast grey horse. He wore a silvery suit of chain mail with plates covering the joints, hips and chest. His hood was over his head so his face was not clearly visible. The silver bastard sword in his hand, however, was very clear. In seconds it had swept two men out of their saddles and dumped them in the fields with broken bones and bleeding wounds.

The rider wheeled his mount around when he reached the other warrior, his horse prancing with the excitement of battle. Anyone looking would glimpse the utterly black skin under the hood...and the slight smile on the rider's young face.

"It is rude of you to try to take all of these miscreats for yourself," he said. "Surely you can spare a few to share."

It was hard for the bandits to miss the two warriors. Having demonstrated that they were the greatest threat, they immediately became the center of attention.

Which had been the idea, after all. To draw the bandits from the innocents.

Peasants were delighted to see the mysterious heroes to help them survive the day. The rush of warriors gave enough time for wounded, disarmed or just cowardly to run farther away to regroup. Already wall of farm implements mixed with rusted blades and wooden clubs were beating on crude shields. Weathered hands raising bows notched arrows with unsteady aim, trying not to hit the newfound allies.
As first villains fell from cold steel in judgment of heavens, it could be seen that numbers were numerous enough to ignore few death in their ranks. Ragtag score of bandits came in dozens, grimly prepared to do anything to get the gold and loot. Most of them were humans on feet. However, in that was little comfort as side to side they were running with goblins, few orcs and bugbears, stench of blood following these savages. Clad in metal armor pillaged from previous battles, their roars and yelps filled with crazed frenzy. Numbers of humans stopped behind their monstrous compatriots, raising shortbows and aiming to fire at rider and lone warrior, completely ignoring shivering commoners, recognizing them as insignificant in comparison to these more seasoned battlers.
All this was watched far from horizon by cowled figure on brown haired horse. Facing away from sun, his face could not be seen as he calmly observed his goons, book in tight leather handbag clutched in one hand. Brown cape was still in windless heat, only occasional neigh of mare showing any kind of movement from him.

Adian raised his sword and the arrows meant for him and his horse simply broke against something unseen.

"You take the hundred on the right and I'll get the ones on the left," Adian said to the warrior, sounding a lot more confident than he felt. He'd gone against bad odds, but this was him and one other fighter against a miniature army. The liklihood of survival wasn't good, even with his enchanted armor and weapon.

Gareth bashed an incoming raider in the head with the hilt of his sword and knocked him unconscious to the ground. "Oh the hundred on the left? That's all? Alright, il see you when the dust settles..." Gareth shouted back at the other fighter. He put his shield on his back and decided to take out his other sword, sacrificing defense for double the attack. Twirling around, he spun his blades and diced through the ranks of the raiders, cutting down battalions of them with great effort, he was clearly making his way to the brown cloaked figure in the distance, he seemed to be the ring leader of the attack. He knew that fighting through all of the raiders would be time consuming however, and he might not have the strength left for a final encounter with a powerful wizard, or whoever was over there

Adian set off with his mount in another direction, simply running down the smaller goblins and swinging his sword at the larger creatures as he passed them. The weapon was quite large, four feet long or possibly a bit more, and was only a foot shorter than its weilder. Yet he swung it about like it was an extension of his body. A song of battle thrummed through his mind and he struck in time with it, devastating all but the strongest foes.

Enigmatic rider was as excited as a tree could be. All attempts of two warriors were unexpected to him as their appearance. Yet he did not bother to stop them by supporting his troops, who died with wails and gasps at their wounds. Calmly, he simply waited.
Archers shot their arrows, most of them aiming at horseman. Those that flew at dashing swordsman could as well miss. Lots strayed from their mark, few instead of hitting him met backs of several footmen. It was different with rider. Being an open target for daring brigands, it was easy to aim at. With evil anticipation, six of them let fly two arrows each to be followed by another volley from their comrades nearby.
Goblins and orcs grew somewhat scarcer after rampage of twin bladed hurricane. But it revealed one enormous bugbear in tatters with clawed gauntlet and spiked chain that swung at the legs of agile fighter.

In the corner furthest from the door, sitting at a table that was right underneath a small oil lamp, was a strange man. He wore his hood up, and on the table in front of him lay a strange contraption. It looked like a halfling, but the chest was split open and a mass of whirring cogs and gears took the place of where organs would be. He was muttering under his breath, sounding very frustrated. Obviously he was fixing this contraption of his. When the door banged open, and the messenger came to bring news of a battle, the man sat up, listening intently. His bright green eyes veritably glowed with excitement at the prospect of seeing some fighting. The man's face was dark, tanned by many days, years even, in the sun, and he had a long nose that was bent slightly, the relic of many a street fight. Yet the man's face was very thin, and it seemed that the man was more wiry than muscular.

Wordlessly, he stood up and closed the chest of his contraption, and it vanished in a flash of electricity. The man put a scroll away under the folds of his garment, hardly more than a large sheet of tarp with a hole cut for his head, hanging down past his knees, and frayed at the edges. He covered his face with another piece of cloth that was attached inside the hood and walked past the man at the door. He started sprinting for the village gate, and when he found it was closed quickly looked around, and found a decently scalable section of the wall that he quickly climbed, despite the protests of the guardsmen who stood there. He paused for a few seconds, surveying the on coming horde of monsters and brigands.

Under the cowl of his hood, he smiled, and jumped off of the walls. He decided that the drow on a horse didn't need any help, nor would there be much fun to be had anywhere near that one. So Elwyn decided to head in a direction where the monsters were thickest. As he neared the nearest group of hobgoblins Elwyn stretched a hand outward, and strands of wire snaked out to grab the nearest four creatures, and as Elwyn ran past them the creatures became a fairly effective flail. Once again, sparks flashed between the wires, it seemed as if Elwyn was controlling the wires with electricity. Let the carnage begin was the only though in the man's mind.
A fight need not end with the death of participant. A fight also ends when the desire to do violence is gone.

Arrows flew wildly around him and the young dark elf promptly changed direction towards the archers. Some arrows struck his armor and bounced off while others became stuck in chinks and edges. If he was hurt he didn't show it. Instead he bore down on the archers faster than before, ready to ride them down with his horse or sweep them aside with his great blade.

So annoying, chaos and screams don't mix well with fine drink or good food. Dish as pushed to mid-table, a final draught taken from a good ale, and one of those lone figures that so oft lurk in a corner, smelling and looking like trouble rises from his seat. Clad in a concealing cloak of wolf furs, this figure exits the tavern casually, once outside however, the cloak is shed, and left hanging on a near rail, to reveal a visage just as monstrous as some of the invaders. Snarling, growling, the newly revealed gnoll barks out in goblin tongue, "Fools! You dare attack before I've eaten?!"

Taken from his back a thick oaken longbow is put to work first. Monstrous muscles flex mightily with each draw of that bow, and how the bow hums with every release, and each arrow released, strike with some decent stopping force, and penetration. As he warms up, he continues to spout off insults in goblin, while growing more daring with each shot, picking off an occasional one or two as the close in on the various melee fighters, 'stealing kills' as it were. All the while, he begins to look like he's enjoying all this killing. He looks upon his enemies, these raiders, living and dead alike, as a starving wolf looks upon a thick slab of a steak.

More adventurers came out of tavern, spreading chaos in ranks of goblinoids. Monstrous gnoll confused many of raiders, suddenly thinking that they were betrayed. But they had no time for panic when wires started to flail and cut the groups of humans and hobgoblins alike. Very soon more of the combatants, mostly the smallest, decided to flee.

Rider on the horizon watched as his troops died one after another, sighing and unrolling long scroll from the sleeve. Dry voice repetitively repeated syllables of planar language, each incantation bringing more power in his body. When spell ended, runes on parchment flashed with red light and disappeared, leaving blank scroll in gloved hands.

Wind started blowing harder, clouds gathering together in place of skirmish. Lighting bolt flashed, striking down running bugbear. Air started to harden in more visible shape, huge frame of amorphous creature of shimmering wind forming in place near smoking corpse. Huge elemental howled like a typhoon that filled his being, taking up one dead body and throwing it at the puppeteer.

Humans saw the reinforcement and how it brutally killed their less brave compatriot. They thrown down their bows and prepared their weapons to attack closing in rider.
[i:1ps04vsp]"He is not pleased! Kill them! Whatever it takes, kill them!"[/i:1ps04vsp]
Two of them got short pikes, taking crouching position for charge at the horse.

Whipping of winds and gathering form of a mighty elemental, certainly enough to catch anyone's attention. A gnoll defending humans? Not your average slobbering mongrel praising Yeenoghu, by this alone, but it gets a little better. Even the simplest of barbarians know, when these beings of pure elemental power attack, there can only be magic afoot. Kill the summoner, the elemental should be free to return to its own plane. Making a guarded retreat, the gnoll puts the tavern between himself and the elemental, taking but a moment to gather his focus, mentally calling out for help, help from a friend of a sort few humanoids, monstrous or not, get to make. Out from the wilderness, far enough from town to avoid rousing troubles, but close enough to keep tabs on the gnoll, comes running a wolf that at a distance looks quite ordinary, but in fact his pelt shines with a metallic golden luster, and even charging to the aid of the gnoll, appears more beautiful and regal than any ordinary wolf, and ducks behind cover with his friend.

This gnoll, self-named, Hunter, in honor of the being he has taken to worshiping, gazes down to the Celestial Wolf, "Sorry to interrupt your meal, my friend, perhaps these people will offer one if we can save them. We stay together in this fight, and watch out for each other." There's no need for a reply, the wolf understands, and Hunter knows it, and then the two, wolf and gnoll step out of hiding, bow put away and scimitars drawn. Working in unison, flashing fangs, claws, blades, dull gnoll fur and flashing golden wolf, the two begin about the bloody task of slaying raider after raider, both conserving what energy they can, and at the same time, drawing it from the private game they make of counting kills, as well as faithful service to one whose name Hunter calls out many times, 'Kharash'. Indeed, Duke Kharash, Kharash the Stalker, Lord of the Lupinals, also sometimes known as Talisid's Shadow.

((Gonna give all these heroes a much-needed kick in the pants, and hopefully give this RP a jump-start back to life.))

Chaos! Glorious chaos! While heroes fought, goblins attacked, and villagers ran, out from an orphanage comes a young man, once a wandering boy, no longer reliant on the guise of an innocent child. Now he comes clad in clothes of varied dark colors, mostly black, violet and crimson, arranged and worn to look fashionable even noble perhaps, but a closer look would show it to be of such fabrics suited to where he lives. To top it off, there is a cloak, simple black, a bit worn and old, the shoulders, and collar adorned heavily with dark crimson feathers. Out to the street he comes, a grand smile forming, and for a moment, delighting in the scene before him. Before long and noticing how the goblins seem to keep getting slaughtered, he digs deep, letting his 'friend' whose identity he's long since known now, guide him in adding a bit of mayhem to the mix.

[color=#BF0000:24hiz9h2]"Varro! My dear old friend, let's bring some friends, to help these ugly little beasts![/color:24hiz9h2]" Speaking to himself of course, this now handsome young man, charming to an unholy degree, when it suits him, pulls out a dagger from under his cloak, and from the nearest human corpse on the street, he crouches down, to cut out its heart, and with this in hand, goes back indoors, to perform vile rituals in privacy. Rituals, which yield results in a most horrific and terrible fashion, beginning with a fiery explosion from within the orphanage, followed immediately by screams of those frantic few villagers engulfed by the fiery blast, and more from they who glimpse the thing released, before it escapes.

Crashing through a wall and into the street, comes an entourage of four Vrocks, fully manifest, and unbound. With them follows the boy, who appears to be the one giving them orders. Moving together the unholy group march through the streets, avoiding the more competent heroes for the moment, while working their way to the village's local temple. What better time, to defile a holy place, than while some sloppy butcher on a hill is keeping all these would-be heroes distracted? Of course, there's always a back-up plan if this fails.

Red Dragon: See how the elf writhes as it burns, Little Naien?
Young Naien: Oooooh! So beautiful, can I burn one?! PLEASSSSE?!

Olba'id finishes his prayer in the temple and upon finishing hears the demonic cries of bloodlust from just outside. He stands in one swift motion. 6 feet tall with a dark tan complexion and a completely hairless head. He has a hard lined face that would look equally at home taking care of a child as it would on a batlefield. Olba'id was barefoot and clad only in a tunic and pants in the style of those worn near the great city of Calimport. Swift as the wind he sprints past the women, children, and priests cowering inside out of the doors to the temple. Seeing the four Vrocks he instantly flies into their midst snapping four lightning fast kick at the throat of one while simultaneously driving his elbow into the head of another and punching a third three or four times.
