Somewhere back in distance, the dog was barking to call his master and followed the track of the targets. It stopped few times to get better scent and darted through the leaves of the bushes.
Right behind it, leaving the horse with supplies at the entrance, moon elf impostor ran after the silver hound, huffing and laughing. It was most enjoyable part of the assignment, as far as it went. A little game of tag. Though it was cheating with help of dog, it did not matter for female, who was embracing cool night air and dew falling from the green branches.

So what that something bad will happen? So what that she may get hurt in future? So what? It is fun now, so other things come later. Jumping over the roots of old tree and making a pirouette on the stump she landed on, dark elf turned pink eyes to scan the shades with vision of her ancestry. Noticing the silver shimmer of moonlight on the fur of the magic creature, Eo relentlessly continued the race.

The leader of these guards, a lieutenant, perhaps a captain, the large woodsman supposed, for all his nerve and declaration of arrest, is given a glare mixed of weariness, and annoyance, eyes drift sideways as he is encircled, a smirk forming in the same moment, for even the length of pikes, to keep him so closely surrounded, a few of these poor fools have put themselves in range of a kick from the horse that would likely cave in their armor, and shatter their ribs. As amusing as it would be for him, he rather likes this horse, for it does not fear him like most do. Back to the leader he turns his attention, inquiring, [i:11gbxlip]"Do ye intend fer me to ride me horse into yer barracks, or ye gonna let me dismount an' lead me horse in? There's no need fer ye ta be uncivil, since I'm fer cooperatin'. Or are ye lot a bunch of green pups, that yer afraid of an unarmed man?"[/i:11gbxlip]

"Insulting the guards at their duty is not smart, woodsman. Get down from the stead and take a walk with us." field leader of the guards replied with the same coldness.

Neriah closes her arms around her children, even as Alasse and Dante squirm and wriggle to get up from their sitting position, to have a look around, their darkvision enhanced eyes capable of penetrating the darkness around them, though they couldn't distinguish features yet, either from the dark light around them, or just from lack of experience of using their eyes in the dark.

To Vailintin's comment of Dark Light, the fey'ri woman responds; "I am familiar with both its strengths and weaknesses. Handy for those who work in the dark, yes; able to stop a greatsword like that of my husbands, from arcing through, and cleaving one in half, not so much." While she didn't like it, having been married to the paladin had proved very enlightening for her, simple evasion tactics she had mastered and proven in battle, she had now learned a simple, but fatal flaw which could've cost her her life in years past.
"Useful, yes, but over-reliance on such techniques is a flaw in and of itself, my brash rogue. I learned that a long time ago."

Aurora turned her white furry head around to face the tiefling, and cocked her head toward him. Then Veraka spoke up; "my furry friend here says that there are many ways to undo ones scent in order to throw off a pursuing hound, many of which are out of our reach simply due to the lack of proper time to plan and execute its operation. She suggests either masking our scent trail with a very heavy and vile scent marker, something that would overload a dogs sense of smell for a short time. Peppers, something that makes the dog sneeze or perhaps just a simply scent that knocks the canine out. She suggests that if you have any sort of contraption that make a bursting spray of pepper juice, or a plume of some vile odor would be appropriate."

Aurora turned around and sniffed the air with her nose; [i:2jlttemh]Little brother. The dog in pursuit of us is of the domain where your mother resides.[/i:2jlttemh]

The mighty aasimar moved toward Vailintin, and then said, "also, the pursuing hound is from the same planes that my mother resides in, Mount Celestia. So if you have any expertise in dealing with those type of animals, feel free to step in."

Jormungander spoke up this time, his light elven voice quietly speaking up; "while I know that it is important to discuss tactics and methods of dealing with our pursuers, might I suggest that we talk about such topics while [b:2jlttemh]on the move[/b:2jlttemh], yes?"

Running after the extraplanar canine, elf woman had many thoughts. What to do when the targets are in sight? How to appear before them? Unarmed or prepared to hostility? How much time is there until magic of the collar is going to dissipate? What could be used for assault? Is assault needed at all? Is the man she heard about is real paladin? Phony or not, how can she handle him? What the bad sign is supposed to mean? Was it really bad idea to leave all the magic gear she found for her whole life at home? Does she worry too much about this? Why she cannot stop thinking about all this and enjoy the improvised hunt?
Sudden yelp ahead flushed away these questions and urged her to sprint ahead to see what happened. Looking at how the silver-furred celestial dog dissipated in the air without anything around that looked like it could hurt it, Eo figured that it was just spell ending the purpose. As much as she could extend duration of summoning, it was short. And training with meditation barely helped. Flexing the phalanges of her fingers, drow-in-disguise started to chant in elven with vague movements of hands. [casts Summon Monster I]
Getting her guide back, the chase continued. Spitting on courtesy and stealth, Eowiewiel unstrapped the hunting horn from the belt on her run, putting it to her lips and blowing into it with all might of her lungs. The dog stopped momentarily to echo the call with howl and jumped into the bushes to track the group.

A miserable frown does Vailintin markedly put on, when told the best thing they could use is something with a strong, offensive odor. Not sure if it would be offensive enough, he's hesitant but reaches for a bottle of a peculiar wine, "Been savin' this for a special occasion, made from Fireberries, which as far as I know, only grow in Cania. can keep away the chill of blizzards even in Stygia. Since you're not about to trust me to bring up the rear, one of you may mask the scent of our trail with it, but I fully expect to be compensated for it."[/color:1whqd7lw]

He may be offering the bottle indiscriminately, but when held out, it's in Neriah's direction. Like it or not, he trusts her more, to be able to mask a trail better, and appreciate this sacrifice.

<<You know, you could've just kept the wine, and let them get caught. But no, you have to go playing at heroics for another damsel in distress, and this one you can't even win!>>[/color:1whqd7lw] This the intrusion into Vailintin's thoughts from his treasured rapier. Perhaps the first time anyone has seen him do so, the rogue tiefling draws the blade only to growl at it, "Will you shut up, damnit?!"[/color:1whqd7lw]

Right, awkward moment, he nods to Jormungander though, "Let's get this over with, before I change my mind."[/color:1whqd7lw]

Neriah extends her hand and accepts the bottle of wine from the tiefling, despite Veraka's sour expression. Jormung remains impassive, merely watching the exchange with a cool, collective look.

"Your sacrifice is noted," the fey'ri woman says sharply to Vailintin, however, her eyes convey her sincerity of the gesture. A practiced rogue and adept sorceress herself, she knows the travails of trying to save a special item for the right occasion, without having to expend it on something or someone else.

"Darling, would you please be a gentle-paladin and compensate the talented thief for his item?" she asked Veraka, turning her crimson eyes toward the aasimar.

Without bothering to argue, Veraka reaches inside a pouch on his belt, and pulls out a small bag of jingling contents. He tosses it indiscriminately to Vailintin. Inside, the tiefling would find 25 gold pieces just waiting to be poured out.
"If that is not sufficient, talk to my wife afterwards. She knows the values of such items that I do not," he grumbled towards the tiefling, more so out of irk that Neriah could coax him into surrendering that much coin on a whim. But, Veraka never argued with her, having been her benefactor years ago.

Neriah had Aurora paw at the trail behind them, kicking up dirt and what not to erase the trail that they left behind, then lightly spraying the whole area with the wine. Any animal that tried to sniff the ground would find their noses in a heap of pain.

"Ok, let's move, now," she said, more of command than a suggestion.

When the group started up again, Jormung turned towards Vailintin, and raised a slender, elven brow. "A sentient weapon, you bear, hmmm?"

Passing through the weeds and over the roots of trees, celestial dog stopped, losing the trail. Trying to sniff the ground to find it, the animal yelped in pain at the burning in sensitive nose. Following behind, dark elf looked at the dog, confused at the strange behavior. "What is the matter?" Taking time to calm the dog and pat it, woman felt strong odor. Sniffing the air two times, Eo licked her lips at the thought about what kind of good beverage was spent. Taking out of her backpack a piece of leftovers from her supper, she offered it to the canine. After it had a snack, celestial dog was returned to the plane where it could be recuperating.
Exercising her fingers, hiss was heard through her teeth closed in sneer. "Going desperate, are we? Now you had it!" Voice was raised in loud chanting on elven. Each word formed distorted the air, charging it with power to infuse summoned creatures with greater power. [cast Summon Monster II, three times]
Three spells were cast and three eagles darted through the portals. Their screams echoed through the woods, silvered feathers on the back of each avian shimmering in the twilight of the grove.
"Go get em, boys!" commanding them, priestess took out a wooden horn, blowing into it. The hunt continued. The birds flew through the branches, spreading throughout the territory, maneuvering and scanning the gloom of the forests.

Hardly about to leave the well-trained horse behind, this woodsman, now managing to offend and frighten guards all in one night, without even the opportunity to give them something to be frightened of, he steps down from his steed, and leads it in, [i:9n9w5sg8]"Fine, fine, ye just seem a jumpy lot fer havin' me outnumbered, and bearin' both arms and armor to boot."[/i:9n9w5sg8] Slow with his hands to avoid anymore jumpy reactions, whilst following the lead of this sizable escort of guards to where ever it is they mean to take him, up goes one to remove the bear-skull helm, and carry it with index and ring fingers curled through the eye-sockets, and with other hand, pushing back long-grown black hair.

[i:9n9w5sg8]"Just so ye lads know, that fight back on the road, aye, I did see it, if that's what this is all 'bout. But if yer fellow guard tha' almost ended up in a pile of wolf-scat, is fer thinkin' I had anything ta do with it, I tell ye he's fer needin' his eyes checked, after someone teaches him a wee bit of tact. Insultin' a man's wife in front of their wee ones like that, was askin' fer trouble."[/i:9n9w5sg8] On that count at least, this giant of a man, is inclined to think these guards might have a different perspective to consider in all these circumstances. Highly doubtful that there's a man amongst them, who would not fight for the honor of his wife, be it against guardsman, or total stranger.

Ensign was relieved when big man shown willingness to cooperate, leading horse into the fort. Perhaps he was just a trader as he said. Crude, simple, barbaric, but trader. Maybe he was waylaid by wolves just like the commander. Then, the man started to talk. And all discipline came back.
"He called her what he was, woodsman. Commander is always right. Flawlessly as the law of this land he follows, Helm bless it. Those culprits shown aggressive side during attempt of arrest. Having demon as wife and then baring fangs? Bah, who will believe he is innocent? Now, we will move you to a cell to ask some questions."
"No need for that, whelp. I'll take it from here." Voice from the side told, sound of metal clanking. Eyes of the field leader moved to see the figure of average build. Not much could be said when baggy robe envelops his form. Stern frown on the face of the human was enhanced by green eyes, burning... With what?
"Who in Nine Hells are you? Sarge said nothing about this."
"If you like Helm, do not test my fury. Now, leave two men with me and take the stead. I will get him to his quarters." Snarling, his hand moved to protrude the iron symbol with engraved iron gauntlet and eye.
Gritting his teeth, youngster complied, giving orders to take the horse to stable. "I was given orders to take him in, so I will watch you, priest."
"Suit yourself, pup."
Hearing no disapproval, youth moved to lead the four to the cellars.

About to argue the point of no man being flawless, not even those skilled in magic, or 'blessed' with supernatural abilities, this as yet unnamed woodsman, is cut off, only to have his exasperation at the guard's notions of his captain, turn into a barely restrained laughter, as he is put in his place, but even this laughter does not come, for this fellow in robes, this priest, is shown to be strangely well-informed, for a man he's never seen before. None the less, gratitude seems in order,[i:2qhe4nkz] "Ye have me thanks, not that I mind a cage now an' then, but not so long as I'm still sober. Now, what's this 'bout ye comin' fer me? I've not met ye, I'm sure. Or is this more still ta do, 'bout that mess on the road?"[/i:2qhe4nkz]

Moving on silently and not replying, group moved through the corridor until they came to heavy reinforced wooden door. Opening it and letting through the arrestee, robed man blocked the entrance when the guards tried to follow. "I will question him and report to your chief. Now out with you." Ignoring grunts and yells, he closed the door, putting heavy lid and turned to the woodsman. "Now that we can talk without interruptions, can you tell me your story?"

Unleashing the summoned extraplanar creatures, elf decided to use the given information with great effectiveness. Not wise, but certainly great one. Or at least she hoped it would work.
It took some time and bruises on her legs to climb on tree high enough to gaze upon the open skies. Taking out the wooden hunting horn, lungs spasmed as the loud roar of it sounded in the night. But their work was not finished. Putting instrument away from her lips, cleric started screaming litany of insults which she learned from many compositions and satiric stories on common.

"Hey, pally-pally-pally! Is that how your order shows bravery? Running away like common goblin from a tiger? Of course, you never has guts to fight a woman! But curse you! Because you are not paladin! Common fugitive, demon bedder, loudmouth and bully! You smear the title of paladin with just existing in this realm! Run away and everyone will know of you as what you are - dishonorable pretender whose speech and actions are nothing more than a sham! When words of your pathetic imposting will spread with my help, I will lead and army to hunt down you, your pet demon wife and your abominable rugrats! They will be roasted on pyres and everyone will tell tales of Veraka the coward, son of feeble and puny folk who would be afraid of gibberling cub! I pity thee, for legends of your 'valor' shall become titanic!"

Coughing her soar throat, for a moment Eo wondered if such man will be enraged at that taunt. After taking a moment of break, she started again, mixing screams with blows of her horn.

Rolling the bag over in his hand after caught, Vailintin knows it's not quite the going value of the prized wine. Of course a thief would be able to estimate the amount of coin he's holding just by the weight of it, but he stuffs this away in a coin purse at his side, the leathery pouch seeming to have a variety of uneven metal plates forming a layer between the outer shell, and inner lining, making cutting his purse safe from quick sleight-of-hand cuts.

[quote:25tbmr06]When the group started up again, Jormung turned towards Vailintin, and raised a slender, elven brow. "A sentient weapon, you bear, hmmm?"[/quote:25tbmr06]

A shrug, a clever grin, the sort he's often used to charm people out of their coin and more, "Why yes, and no it's not for sale. Bloodletter is annoying as the whining of those Githzherai monks 'visiting' Cania, but of little actual use to a dragon, I'm sure. Besides, saves me a fortune on healing potions that I don't need." [/color:25tbmr06]

Further along the way through the woods, comes those echoing cries, and for a moment, even he slows up, glaring back into the woods, "My Veraka, you certainly are famous today."[/color:25tbmr06]

Herded from one place to the next, a bit cross about not knowing where his horse is. Now another man, he's exchanged handlers from paranoid guards, to a strict cleric, and now to who? What? Still, the large woodsman takes a steadying breath, then answers, [i:2ltwqyx4]"Not to be impolite, but first ye might tell me what I'm bein' arrested fer. I've nae done anythin' but passed by the group yer guardsmen provoked, an' then hid m'self up a tree when it went badly. 'Course now, I dunno how ye train yer guards here sir, but I admit, slanderin' a man's honor, his wife, an' his children, with he an' all them present, is 'bout askin' to have yer teeth handed to ya. Whether the stranger on the road be a paladin or not, well, just me opinion, but yer man had a good whallopin' comin' to him, in the very least."[/i:2ltwqyx4] What's not said, thinking back on that moment, is only the flash of outrage when that lovely white female wolf was threatened too. Neither does he mention this nor let it show on his face that he's holding this back, after all, priests worse than village folk, never seem to understand, that he is neither a monster, nor without control of himself or transformations. How could he explain this infatuation, without mentioning what he is? It shall have to remain secret, for now at least.

Dark chuckle came from the man in earthly robes. Something ringed once under his attire as he pointed finger at him.
"My work here is not explanation, but investigation. The faster you tell me everything, the better will be my response. Leave comments aside. Answers like 'yes' or 'no' will be appreciated."
Snapping his fingers, he stepped closer, without intimidation. *activates Zone of Truth spell* Feeling of something crawling inside your mind, tingling at false thoughts and breaking attempts to form words with obvious lies. Giving a smile, priest looks directly in eyes of the large man. "Let us start. The goal of you visiting this village is trade, is that correct?"
