those feelings of betrayal were not new to the drowess. after all, she [i:rr84wymh]was [/i:rr84wymh]the epitimy of the drow world. and as a young child one learned quickly that deadly game to where betrayel was apart of life like breathing and eating was.
she sent back mentally, [i:rr84wymh]'if this boy has betrayed you, why do you pout over it like a little girl? why do nothing?[/color:rr84wymh][/i:rr84wymh]'

the distant sounds of activity continued, tho she sensed a slight change. tho what she wasnt sure. the surface world was still so strange to her. and she dared not take her eyes off the being in the tree.

Curious, the beast in the tree cants its head, confused but for a moment, before picking out the intent of the questions, ~What would you have this one do? To harm the dreamer...~ the thought trails off, and attempts to impart some portion of knowledge, of unwritten laws that govern its existence. That it is forbidden to do any harm to 'Dreamers' that it exists to protect them from malicious powers hidden within the Astral Plane, wherein dreams occur. Simply it cannot attack them.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Within the village, few things could unsettle an already terrified village than a giant bird that sets every animal either trying to escape, or hackles up and trying to look threatening. Hardly a hero's welcome when a dozen or more nervous faces peek out from their homes, taking aim with bows and crossbows, aimed at the monstrous bird and its passenger. Some mages, for all their power, do seem to have much to learn about tact.

But for when that giant of a man, in suit of plate, and his wolf running alongside him, make their appearance, a few of those terrified faces see him, and lower their weapons slowly, thinking he might be to dispatch the giant bird, or perhaps it's no threat at all, and the man upon it is one of those fabled eccentric Harpells. For one family at least, it is a reassuring sight to see young Josah, running along as best he could, nearly out of breath, but chasing after the man in armor, as a boy often might after a famous hero.

Once Veraka is near, a slow progression of reasonably armed villagers, and an older man, most of his hair and beard showing white, come approaching their visitors. The older man, clearly some manner of Village Elder, a leader among the rabble, and the villagers his armed escorts. Truly troubled times if he is guarded so closely. Onward he comes, with a slight gimp in his step, and a gnarled walking staff in hand, that he shall surely in years coming lean more heavily upon, calls to the armored man, "Ho there, good sir! Are ye two come from Waterdeep? Our fastest sprinter in the village, has been gone many a tenday now to deliver a message, and we'd feared for his safety."

"[i:2puv9yqu]theres ways around that[/color:2puv9yqu][/i:2puv9yqu]." she sent back to the being. and she would know! "[i:2puv9yqu]show him what happens when one betrays. remove him from those he loves. or worse case, burn down the village[/color:2puv9yqu][/i:2puv9yqu]."
reasoning this dreamer was from there. and any luck it would be someone who started the confrontation earilier.

Veraka and Aurora come running in, both keeping an eye out for the young boy right behind them.

"Ho there, good sir! Are ye two come from Waterdeep? Our fastest sprinter in the village, has been gone many a tenday now to deliver a message, and we'd feared for his safety."[/color:10v2ya3f]

When the aasimar reaches a distance that doesn't require him to shout out towards the village elder, he and Aurora come to a halt before the plethora of gathered villagers.

The mighty aasimar, turns his huge platinum armored figure towards the Elder and responds, "unfortunately, sir, I know not what has become of your messenger, as I am not from the City of Splendors. Rather, I am a traveling paladin, and Storm Warrior of the Platinum Dragon, and have come, at the insistence of this lad of yours," he waved an armored hand over to indicate Josah; "to my understanding, you've got some trouble roaming around, of an unknown origin. Am I right?"

Veraka sized up the crowd before him.
[i:10v2ya3f]They're definitely farmers, alright; my fur and money is on the fact that they barely know how to fight,[/i:10v2ya3f] came Aurora's private thoughts to Veraka.

[i:10v2ya3f]I might disagree on some of your observation; however, we would not be here if they did not have a problem that they couldn't handle on their own. That being said, I see little reason to not trust them, however, that does not mean I'm ruling out every possibility yet.[/i:10v2ya3f] The aasimar looked down to his Winter wolf companion, whom just nodded up to him, and then looked back at the congregation of folk around them.

Confusion is the first sense that comes from the gargoyle-like creature, confusion and then a mix of horror and curiosity. Words follow once more, ~This one and its twin may not harm the Dreamers. Since the first, we are mandated by one whom spoke our True Names, to guard the forbidden places of the Astral, lest Dreamers blindly wander unto them. We protect, we guard, and that which would harm Dreamers within the Astral, we are mandated to kill. However, without harming the Child-Dreamer, how might this one show it, the harm its treachery has done?~

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Veraka's answer to the greeting and questions, is met with two reactions among the crowd. There are those who clearly take heart when the news that this savior is a paladin, and for the few religiously educated among them, a bit of pleasant surprise when he declares his god, to boot. The other reaction, is of murmurs and worry, over the too-long absent messenger. Quieting it all, the Elder raises his hand, calling for their silence, and calm, then responds, "Ahhh... and I see it in the boy's eyes, he's taken a shining to ye. However, yes, ye've heard correctly. We've no proper idea [i:2uvp5e5s]what[/i:2uvp5e5s] it is that we're dealing with, but it always comes in the night, silent as death, and when it strikes there is little warning, only the cries of our livestock. Whenever we can manage to keep them safe, it hunts the forest. Whatever it is, not even the goblins have attempted even a small raid since its first appearance."

Coming forward from the rabble, a man both freshly bruised, and humiliated, speaks up, "Elder Trian, the beast escaped us again, an' this time it had a Drow with it! I bet ye one o' them Black-skinned devils is behind it!" and there are several other of the men among the crowd who nod their confirmation of the account, if not the assessment as well.

Only then has Josah, winded and tired, caught up, to hear this new theory. Silenced many times before for his attempts to counter, still tries to stand his ground anew, "How many times I 'ave to tell ye?! It's name is...." and as so many times before he's cut off as a firm hand rests on his shoulder, a well-built man whose profession is of growing crops, rather than raising animals, and apparently the boy's father, "Hush lad! That's quite enough of yer wild tales. Ye been listenin' to them bards too much." And then to Veraka, that calloused and dark-tanned hand extends, "Please pardon m'boy, my Lord, too many tales of high adventure an' a boy gets all manner of wild notions."

Elwyn sighed, and leaned against the roc he had flown in on. His puppet dog lay curled up on the ground at his feet. Elwyn looked at the village elder, and his eyes had nothing but contempt for the man, "Refusing to name a creature will not make it disappear, you are aware of this." He shrugged, and chuckled softly, "All you elders are alike, be it here or in the desert."

the drowess' lips curled to a smile. Revenge was easy, even to a former llothite. She put the wand away, and moved to a pure neutral stance. If there were allies to make in the lands of light, why not one like this?
"come down here, its much easier to discuss[/color:30p2vxgw]."
the ex-priestess then tapped her ebon cheek thinking up some ideas. how long and how much punishment to be dealt would decide most of the course of action.
"First, what do I call you?[/color:30p2vxgw]"

The aasimar looked to the crowd around him and Aurora, sighing as he did so.
[i:11l7ygx5]This lot are going to be a little suspicious of anything, aren't they?[/i:11l7ygx5] he asked Aurora through their mental link.

[i:11l7ygx5]Always has been with these village folk; haven't seen otherwise,[/i:11l7ygx5] was all the wolf said in reply, causing the paladin to chuckle slightly.

At the news of the unknown creatures activity, Veraka gives off a semi-serious look on his face, knowing all to well that such beasts usually meant more than a random wolf or animal running-a-muck. This thing was something more illusive and powerful.

When Josah tries to speak up about what the creature might be called, [b:11l7ygx5]and[/b:11l7ygx5] that he disagrees with the theory behind the drow being with it, Veraka gives his undivided attention to the boy, despite the extended hand from who seems to boy's father. However, as his code dictates, Veraka accepts the offered welcome, his own armored glove extending and gripping the man's hand.

"I can understand the boy having an imagination," the paladin starts off, giving the man's grip a run for his money, then releasing; "however, among my people and from where I've been, there is a saying; "believe a child over your trusted friend, for they will never attempt twist the truth that they believe in until proven otherwise."

"In this case, good sir, I believe that you and everyone else here, would, if not loose nothing but a few minutes of time, by listening to Josah. I, myself, as well as Master Elwyn, might gain more than a little insight at what he might have to say about this creature."

With that said and out on the floor, the aasimar turned to Josah, and spoke; "please, lad; tell us exactly what you were going to say."

(( Hopefully not, I wants to kill stuff durn it all))

Elwyn nodded, "Kids are more often trustworthier than the average adult, no time for them to worry about things other than fun. A purer view of right and wrong, too."

He walked over to where Josah and Veraka stood, and squatted down to eye level with the young boy. "So, where is this monster that has the village so terrified last seen, young lad?"

Down the creature comes from its perch in the tree, moving slowly into the moonlight, very much like a gargoyle in general shape and proportions, however with some notable differences, this appears to be a creature of flesh, and not of stone, hands a feet both somewhat over-sized of three cloven digits each, thick angular claws, and most unique of all is the face, long acute ears that on a glance could be mistaken for horns, and upon that wedge-shaped head, there is no signs of a mouth, little wonder the beast is so strictly telepathic. to the question of identity, the answer, ~Strange thing you Dreamers, always things must you give things a name. Make a name if you must, some call this 'Demon', others call it 'Nightmare', the Dreamer that summoned this one from the Astral, chooses the strangest name, 'Zahdu'.~

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

Well then who is to argue with both a paladin AND a wizard? One people often see in the same light as a cleric, and the other as a source of great wisdom. Josah on the other hand is for a moment, a little embarrassed to have so much attention focused on him as Elwyn, and more importantly (to Josah anyway) Veraka, speaking up for him. Putting his thoughts back together without the snapping at other townsfolk, shrugs, "First time [b:11r9eahe]I[/b:11r9eahe] seen it, well, I've had dreams about it, lots o' times. I canno' figure out what it is or what it's really called, but some of me dreams, they seem so real, sometimes they're real bad though, and it's like I can't wake up to escape, and then [b:11r9eahe]it[/b:11r9eahe] would come, an' protect me from the things attackin' me in me dreams. One night I had a real bad one, an' the creature, was shieldin' me with its own body in me dream. When I was finally able ta wake, there it was, not just in me dreams anymore, but real. I think it was angry at me, an' it went out the window. I'm not fer knowin' how I brought it with me, but it's not a bad thing, it's... I call it, Zahdu. Don't know if that's its real name, or if it has one, but its a friend, if you don't believe me, take me along, I know it won't hurt me."

Of course there's a lot of eyes rolled among the crowd, a number of adults who figure that information worthless and silly. Skeptical, even the elder has his doubts, but at this point there's no way to rule any of this out. No objections from the boy's father though, as he remains as quiet and skeptical as the elder. As for Josah coming along, that may be something altogether separate that needs discussing.

Elwyn scratched his head, clearl frustrated. Mind magic, not quite the same as psionics, but a fair immitation to be sure, was not his strongest point. Hardly even a point at all. He could craft and use golems and puppets in ways that would put the vast majority of wizards to shame... but when it came to delving into the minds of others, he would rather fight a horde of orcs.

"Well boy, you will probably indeed find a place at our side, whether it'll hurt you or not is hardly something I will concern myself over. If its a paying job, I'll take it on."[/color:ogqve2pv]

He looked at the shocked faces of the villagers, and especially the concern bordering on anger on the father's face, and the slight fear on the face of the village elder, who could ver well imagine the fee for such an unusual request.

"Oh you needn't worry, if it's intersting enough, and I get useful... materials, I shall not charge you folk."[/color:ogqve2pv]

He squatted down, looking Josah in the eyes. Elwyn's own eyes took on a golden hue, as he scanned the boy for any magical aura's or enchantments.

((red still telepathic type commincations here. she speaks little common so most of what she will say will be in another tongue even if i write it in english))

"[i:37vxca3u]much better[/color:37vxca3u][/i:37vxca3u]," she replied when he came down, still cautious of the beast, but more confident in him as an ally for now.
"[i:37vxca3u]if you prefer, I can just call you, 'thing', Zahdu[/color:37vxca3u][/i:37vxca3u]" she said sarcastically. Not waiting really for a response, she motioned for him to follow, pulling her cowl over her head.
"[i:37vxca3u]let us teach this...dreamer shall we,[/color:37vxca3u][/i:37vxca3u]" letting him show her where to go. in hand her rapier, she kept keenly aware of the area while confused of much of the surface world. stealth was harder, but she managed to keep her tracks at none and her walk silent. the moon was still rather bright, and the expanse above so vast. no oppressive feeling of stone overhead.
once or twice she stopped at a new sound, or new smells ready to strike. how humerous it would have been to watch the former noble priestess; instead of a haughtiness, a tensing and pausing at the smallest of things- like a six legged tiny beast (insect) buzzing at her then flying off in the darkness. a furry four legged thing running off in the distance. a large thick (tree) pillar off to the side.
as they walked, "[i:37vxca3u]let us capture your dreamer. then we will strike at his heart, metaphorically.[/color:37vxca3u][/i:37vxca3u]"

((is the name in another language?))
((i figured, tho not required, the farmer might mention a drow problem out there. and say she attacked the village, even if she didnt. you know, kill 2 rabbits with 1 bullet))
