A Return to Faerun from Elben Aator - Part 2

Post by Bhaern Quel »

OOC: The experiment of exceeding 20 pages once resulted in a forum meltdown. As such it is prudent to start this 2nd thread as a continuation as opposed risking another meltdown.

IC: Silver light of the moon watches over the ceremony.

"Celessarel, be careful," Tadhorir warned her, but she had already turned away from him, trying to make out where the music came from. She followed its powerful tone, sweet and passionate at the same time.

Although she didn't understand any of the words, there was a strange power to this music. It was something like magic, but it wasn't the kind of magic her sister studied at the academy in Waterdeep. It was altogether different and it felt like... like... the best image she could think of was a mild rainshower on a hot and dry summer's day. Or a shooting star in the night sky. The smell of the forest after rainfall. Sunlight flickering through the leaves. Ai, none of this made any sense!

There was an entire group of them, mostly women, but she could also make out a young man among the dancers. Their flowing movements were as enchanting as their song, in perfect harmony with themselves and the nature around them. Moonlight flowed down from the skies, engulfing them in its pale silver shimmer.

Most of the dancers appeared to be at least partially of drow ancestry, but strangely enough she didn't feel any fear at all, as she took another step closer. She did not wish to intrude, but the music and the dance were so compelling that she felt her own body move in unison with the others.

It was as if the dancing woman from her dream had suddenly come to life... within herself and all the others performing this sacred ceremony.

OOC: Sorry for any confusion, I did not realize that this was the second part of our tale. Anyway here goes my part

IC: After staying a few days at Resker's Farm the company of Nedylene Rahn head for the Promenade. The local surface Drow, Nedylene's guards, and Calia's party head for the passages that will lead them to the Promenade. Adain acts as their guide as he is in the service of Qilué Veladorn the high priestess of the Promenade.

"Adian I believe since you are in Lady Veladorn's service you should lead us to the location of the Promenade. I will admitt that I have not been there for a long time. It has been many years since my time at the Promenade," said Nedylene.

OT: Since you made a timejump after my character met the group, I'll just assume she went along to the passages to Promenade and we can simply do the 'get to know' talks during the journey.

IT:

"It's still hard for me to believe that there really is a temple of Eilistraee within the city," Celessarel said to Delia Rahn as they were walking side by side.

"You see, actually I left Waterdeep because I had heard rumors of a temple nearby and I was trying to find it," she continued. "It was a big surprise to meet an entire group of people with Eilistraeen faith. I'm so glad to have a chance to learn more about the goddess and her ways. "

"It actually is not within the city," Adian said as he removed his usual cloth over his eyes for protection against the daytime blindness. "But far below in Undermountain. It is said to be the most sacred temple to the Dark Maiden inthe world, a site where her power battled that of a slime-covered abomination through lady Qilue Veladorn. For me it has always been home."

It was hard to keep the eagerness out of his voice. Regardless of how amazing his first trek outside the Promenade had been, and how much he looked forward to more adventures, it was good to be going home.

"I can assure you, Lady Celessarel, that you will be happily welcomed there. One of our ideals is hospitality to all. The Maidens will be glad to teach you everything you might wish to know of our ways.

"The cavern we need to reach is not far," Adian added. "We should get there at close to the right time, when the moonlight streams down from above. From there I can open the Moongate and we can ride its light to the very steps of the Promenade. You will not regret a moment of it.

"There are a few hazards," Adian cautioned. "But nothing a group this size has to fear, I think. There is a spot ahead where we will have to get across a small crevasse, but it sounds more frightening than it is."

Zazzt yawned, and stretched on his carpet, "Eh, chasms shouldn't present any problem to us, we have powerful casters who can fly. But sometimes there are useful things, forgotten down the centuries in those chasms." He smiled, "Why, I could tell you a story..." The rest of the story was lost as Laraun smacked him on the head, cutting short his tale.

Adian smirked at Laraun's interruption of his friend. He walked over to an innocuous-looking crack in the side of the passage and pulled out an extra pack. This pack was outfitted with extra ropes and climbing equipment.

"A precaution," Adian explained. "As I said, the trip should not be very challenging for this group."

Zazzt spared Laraun a dark glare, at which Laraun only smiled, and innocently twiddled his thumbs. They both jumped off of the carpet, with Zazzt motioning at the crack, "We are going in there?"

Nedylene and the party from Elben Aator looked at the crack. Silke just shrugged and looked at Nedylene, "It's not any worse than such formations back on the Isle." Nedylenen, Silke, Delia, Urlike, and the rest got out their climbing gear.

Calia and her people just looked at the crack and then quietly dug out ropes, d-rings, rappelling harnesses, and other descention gear. None of her people made much noise as they went about getting ready to descend into the darkness of the crack.

"It's actually quite lovely," Adian said. "The crack widens a few feet inside and slopes downward. Not long afterward there will be a dropoff. The stone there looks like those waterfalls on the surface, as though it were flowing down the wall. The dropoff is about fifteen feet...an easy descent."

Adian made a face.

"Not so easy climbing up, but you don't need to worry about that for now. I'll go first to show you where to set your ropes."

Adian ducked into the crack, armor, sword, pack, and all. After a few moments his voice drifted back to the group.

"It's clear."

Zazzt only chuckled, and stepped forward into the crack, with out any rope, dropping down for a few feet, before his feather fall kicked in, Laraun followed suit, and soon the two joined Adian in the hole, "Gosh, what nonsense, wouldn't you agree?" Laraun smiled at their escort.

Adian gave Laraun a raised eyebrow.

"Then you won't mind doing that for everyone else?"

Laraun shrugged, "[i:2o9eazuc]I[/i:2o9eazuc] can't," He waved at Zazzt, "He might be able to..." Zazzt levitated up the crack, and stuck his head out, "Which of you would like to flat down, instead of tinkering with useless ropes?"

Nedylene looked at Zazzt, "Would you mind doing that?" she asked.

Adian tried to keep down an embarassed blush as the only one who had physically climbed down the drop. He cleared his throat instead.

"We'll have to travel about a mile," he said. "It winds a bit and there's a crevasse, but it'll get us to the next cavern in good time. Then we can descend into the Moon Chamber."
