A Return to Faerun from Elben Aator

Post by silke_rahn »

OOC: This is a Free Form RP that begins with one of the Rahn sisters finally returning home. Anyone can be one of the party of Drow and/ or Half-Drow waiting for her to arrive. Nedylene Rahn is the eldest sister of Silke Rahn the character I have played here before. She is the Ilharess of a very rare think, a Drow Noble house devoted to Eilistraee that used to be House Vrinn. She is coming from the Isle of Elben Aator far to the southwest of western Faerun.

IC:
The voyage by sea was dangerous, but less so than traveling the tunnels of the Underdark. Nedylene got comfortable with the crew of the Sea Dart, a swift sailing Caravel. They were used to her and her guard a tallish blond haired half-Drow named Ulrike Himmelstochter. Nedylene was Lady Nedylene Rahn, Ilharess or Matron of House Rahn and Agrent Maid of Luna Temple in the western wilderness of the Isle of Elben Aator far to the south and west of Faerun.

Nedylene was tall for her race. She stood at the maximum height of a female of the Ilythiiri. Her whitish blond hair hung in a braided pony tail down the back of her cloak. Her light blue cloak that was enchanted to protect her from Evil rested on full-plate armor made from the hide of a Blue Dragon. Her icy blue eyes stared out from the starboard side of the small ship at the western coast of Faerun called the Sword Coast. She smiled at the sight of Baldur's Gate coming into view.

"Ulrike, we will be back to the lands of our births soon."

Standing at Lady Rahn's side were four young Half-Drow. Three resembled her and were only toddlers. The three sisters also showed some signs of their late father a Sun-Elf called Calalendi Fynn. Standing next to Ulrike was Delia Addams, Nedy's adoptive daughter and Ulrike's squire.

"Yes m'lady it has been a long time since my boots last trod the roads of the Sword Coast."

Delia looked out over the gun'al of the ship at the city it was sailing into.

"Is that a big city mother?"

Nedy looked at the twenty-one year old Ranger, Bard, Fighter, and Harper Agent candidate tha was her adoptive daughter and Ulrike's squire.

"It is bigger than Fae, and more welcoming of our kind that Fae Saile once was. Fae has some ways to go, but if you are of the Dark Maiden and a Drow in Baldur's Gate you will get treated better than anyother Drow blood there."

"Is it as big as Waterdeep mother?"

"No, Waterdeep is the largest city of the Sword Coast. Only the capital of Amn is larger."

Nedylene looked as the ship sailed into the harbor of Baldur's Gate beyond the walled city to the tree coved hills. Somewhere east and north of the city was the temple she was summoned to.

Nedylene smiled at her adoptive daughter. Delia noticed.

"Xas ilhar?"

"Nothing, just thinking about going to a Temple of Eilistraee with its own colony of our people that don't have their fates in the hands of fickled humans like we do back home."

The sailors of the Sea Dart brought her into the warf with practiced ease. Nedy saw a small group of her people on the warf watching the Sea Dart dock at the warf. After the moring lines were secured and the gang plank was in place, Nedy, her family, and the half-Drow Paladin, Cleric and War Priestess of Lathander walked down from the ship to the warf.

Nedylene Rahn, Iharess of House Rahn, Argent Maid of Eilistraee stood on the warf looking at the small band of Drow gathered there looking for her to arrive.

"Vendui Dalninuken and Dalninilen, I am Nedylene Rahn from Elben Aator."

Drow on the Surface face as many dangers as those in the Underdark. Just because the Rivvil is friendly does not mean he wishes to help you, he may just want to get you off guard before knifing you.

A small elf stood near the edge of the group waiting for Nedylene, her lithe frame just reaching four feet. Blonde hair flowed, unbound, across the length of her back, coming to rest, in curls, at her waist. Her skin was so pale that it seemed almost transcluscent, dividing her from most of her other elven kin in the group, light and dark alike.

She wore the outift of a ranger, her long, black cloak fluttering behind her in the strong breeze. Despite her outfit, however, she appeared unarmed, with no weapons visible anywhere on her body, save a small, palm-sized dagger strung by her hip.

She stepped forwards and dipped into a bow.

"I am Kaeli, Miss Nedylene Rahn. We have come to escort you and those travelling with you."

She stood up, the corners of her full lips curling upwards in a small smile. She gracefully stretched out an arm to Nedylene, her fingers slightly curled inwards as if ready to take something.

"Will you join us, dalninil?"

"Xas, Dalninil Kaeli I will," said Nedylene. "These are my daughter," Nedy indicated Delia Addams-Rahn, "and one of my Darksong Knights," gesturing toward Ulrike Himmelstochter.

The younger half-Drow bowed and spoke, "I am Delia."

The older half-Drow looked at the pale elf and said, " I'm Lady Ulrike Himmelstocher a Dawn Bringer and a Dawn Singer of Lathander. I also am one of Lady Rahn's Lances."

Each Drow-kin woman carried only a pack with a bedroll and a few pouches besides their weapons. Each carried a pair of longswords with only Nedylene's not being a matching pair. Nedylene and Ulrike each had shields with the arms of House Rahn painted on the fronts of them.

"Come ladies let's follow our hosts," said Nedylene. She then walked across the warf to the rest of Kaeli's companions. Through her periferial vision she saw that the local humans and others were stopping from their own business to watch the goings on of the Surface Drow. A stevedore that was working near them with a distain for the Ilythiiri muttered something about dirty Dirt-Elves.

She turns to lead Nedylene away from the dock, following her group, but stop at the comment of the man. She turns her head slowly, catching his eye. Her own eyes blaze with sudden anger and annoyance, "Insult any of my kin again, and you'll find out what dirt is soon enough." she hisses between her teeth.

Another of the group gently lay a hand on her arm. Kaeli definitely seemed to have a hard time holding her temper - she most likely hadn't been a follower of the Dark Maiden for long. She glances up at the head-and-shoulders taller drow and nods, turning to Nedylene as if waiting for her to go first.

Nedy looked at Kaeli and smiled.

"Don't worry dalninil the Rivvin and other Kivvin have a long memory of our races autrocities toward theirs. We have much history to overcome and it will not be easy. We of the Dark Maiden are a minority up here as we are below. We have to walk cautiously and speak softly sometimes with our neighbors so we can survive. We have to survive in order to change the views of our neighbors, thus we must remember to repay rudeness with kindness at all times. That man's family may have had a well less than friendly relationship with our people. I can forgive him his rudeness."

The Nedy let the some of the local Eilistraeean Drow and their allies lead the way. Following her were Ulrike Himmelstochter and Delia Addams-Rahn. Nedy then motioned for Kaeli to join her and travel beside her.

"Dalninil what were you before you became one of Eilistraee's Chosen? I only ask so I can help you to better find your place in our extended family."

Whispering a swift word of thanks, and smiling at Nedylene, the drow that stopped Kaeli swiftly moves to the front, taking lead of the group.

Kaeli stares after her for a moment, no truly registering the question until a few moments after. Her head drops a little, her eyes fixed on the ground as she walks beside Nedylene. She stiffens, then whispers softly, "I was saved by a follower of the Dark Maiden." she stares fixedly at her feet, not elaborating.

"Tis ok for now. When you are ready to say more just let me know. I will be on the mainland for sometime," said Nedylene.

Nedylene looked at the young Jalil and smiled. [i:1yyi6bbn]She'll do, she'll do[/i:1yyi6bbn] thought Nedy as she walked along side Kaeli.

She glances up at the other female, her face kept carefully expressionless, but her eyes betraying the gratitude she felt for Nedylene leaving the subject. Her cheeks colour slightly as she realizes this, turning a rosy colour. She glances away, softly murmuring a short "Thanks."

She drops her gaze to the cobbled stones they walk on as they move in deeper through the city. it begins to get crowded, with houses and buildings lining both sides of every street, and merchants setting up their wares in the middle of the road.

Nedy looked at her escort and smiled at her. Then she looked up to the sky-line of Baldur's Gate seeing it again made her homesick for the hold in the Silver Marches.

"Kaeli, I was born on the surface north of here. It was a nice cozy place. Qu'ellar Vrinn or in common Vrinn Manor was the center of my family's hold on the western edge of the High Forest. We left the Underdark two and a half millinea ago. We were escaping the oppressiveness of the Lolthians in Menzoberranzan."

Nedy looked at the gate guards that protected the gate from the Docks District in to the Lower District of Baldur's Gate. Like most human troops they looked like guards anywhere only their livery differed. These wore the livery of Baldur's Gate over their armor.

"We were and still are a noble house. Only we were and are still aligned with Eilistraee. That was the main reason for us to leave the lands below. When we came to the surface many of the places in northwestern Faerun were yet to be settled by humans, Elves and dwarfs were the more common folk about. We prooved our worth to the court of Elves in the High Forest and were given rights to build ourselves a place on the western edge of what is today's High Forest. For six Ilythiiri generations we lived, worked, and yes died there in relative peace with our neighbors."

They passed through the gate in to the Lower District. The main east-west avenue arched through the square in front of the Gate that opens south onto the road that eventually leads one to Amn to the south and Cormyr to the east.

Nedylene then remembered her visit to Athkatla. It was before she rode off with Silke, Ursula, and Sabine and thirty other members of the House to serve in the army of the Lords' Alliance during the Neverwinter - Luskan War. Athkatla was a guady twin to Waterdeep and a more retched den of villany did not exsist on the western coast of Faerun until one got to Luskan.

Nedylene was watching the crowds as the procession made its way through Baldur's Gate. She saw movement in the shadows near by. For a moment she thouth that she saw a flash off the Black and Blue livery of House Morcane. [i:3d9do7bg]Only one member of that house would follow her to here, Aly'Ffyn.[/i:3d9do7bg]

She listened intently, the change of the scenery not even registering, even when Nedylene fell silent. As Nedylene spoke, she saw her in a different light, of a family not born of those cursed followers of the Spider Queen, but of a family born in the worship of the Dark Maiden, the lady that Kaeli herself had never given thought to until a few years ago ...

She blinked her eyes, willing her mind to turn away from those memories and shook her head. As her hair fell in front of her face, she noticed a small flash of light. Pursing her lips and frowning, she turned her head slightly, placing the spot just in her line of sight and glanced out of the corner of her eye. She could see nothing out of the ordinary. Shaking her head and dismissing it as the glare of the sun, she looked up at Nedylene and whispered softly, her eyes glowing with admiration, "Then you are a true goal for any of the drow, miss. It proves to any that drow can live here ..." her voice trailed off before she added lamely, "I thank you for sharing your story with me, sister."

Nedylene looked briefly at Kaeli and nodded her acceptance of the younger woman's praise. Then her eyes started searching for Aly'Ffyn or her agent in the crowd. Nedylene knew that on Elben Aator not all Surface Dwelling Drow were followers of the Lady of the Dance. Even here on the mainland there were small colonies that worshipped the Spider Queen and pretended to be Moon Dancers.

Aly'Ffyn Morcane and her mentor Radra fromerly of House Morcane were just two such Drow. Lucky for Elben Aator neither members of the VDVM were very good at there jobs. As they sought more to weaken the Houses of Szith than to subdue the Lunar Drow whom Nedy led.

"On the island of Elben Aator, I lead our colony there. On the mainland we are know as House Vrinn, but on Elben Aator we are House Rahn. I wanted to make a more traditional Eilistraeean community there, but the Drow that flocked to me proclaimed me their matron and I now lead the Fifth House of Elben Aator's Drow."

She looked at the crowd looking for Drow faces, knowing full well that Aly if she was here would be disguising herself or at least shielding her skin and eyes from the sun. Nedy knew Aly pretty well as Aly'Ffyn before she returned to House Morcane was of House Rahn and on the road to redemption.

"Aly, why did you follow me here?" Nedy asked just barely under her breath. " Are you still interested in becoming one with House Rahn once more, or are you here to assassinate the head of the only surface noble house of Drow?"

She looks up at Nedylene, "Is it much like here? I've only ever been here and our temple before," she looks down, supressing a sigh of longing.

Preoccupied, she hears Nedylene's murmur, but ot what she says. She glances at the older female to see if she was talking to her. When she sees Nedylene's attention elsewhere, she looks around, fingering the brooch that tied her cloak together at her throat more out of habit than anything else, the tune of a song running through her mind.

Nedylene glanced over to Kaeli, "Nau, Lunar Temple is a stone building slightly smaller than the Lathandran Temple in Beregost. We have an outdoor worship area for our nightly dances. Inside we have rooms for the servants and Moondancers. We also have four temple stores. Our cook runs a weapons and armor store out of the Temple's kitchen, our librarian sells scrolls and magic supplies, our alchemist sells potions and such. In the portion that is alocated to House Rahn Mi'yan Rahn the barkeep of the House Rahn Tavern sells times mady mostly for members of House Rahn, but sometimes valued friends buy from her too."

Nedylene watched the various crowds around the street that led past the southern gate to Baldur's Gate. She was looking for Aly'Ffyn at the moment. Aly as she was known in House Rahn was not on the Caravel. Caravels are nice sized ships for commerce, but they are small places and it would be hard to remain hidden.

Nedylene continued her discription of Lunar Temple.

"In side the Temple there are two worship areas. The temple has a main sanctuary and House Rahn has a House Chaple."

She listens intently, Nedylene's description of her home bringing clear images to Kaeli. the corner of her mouth twitches in an almost imperceptable smile as he rmind wanders. She hangs on to the drow female's every words, soaking them up like a dry towel with spilt wine.

She curiously runs her gaze over the rest of the town, wondering what Nedylene seemed to be looking for. Blinking, then realizing it probably wasn't her business, she lifts her eyes from the ground to the sky, blinking at the heat of the sun. It was at it's peak now; soon, the streets would grow darker, and become a home for the many theives and cutthroats that lived here.

"Kaeli, we should get going, I guess we need to make any inn that we need to stop in along the way before darkness sets in."

Nedylene noticed that half the day had already passed. [i:3mvc1ebu]Aly'Ffyn you can wait I will catch you sometime later.[/i:3mvc1ebu] Then she started to fallow her escort to where they were going to spend the night.
