Just in case anyone HADN'T noticed (ie they have eyesight a bat would laugh at), the spam ones are the ones which have the same in the name and the description fields.

The fact that half of them have links to pornography sites is a hint too I think :D

Not all of them, one appeared to link to loan sites, though I did not visit the sites.

Also the post in OOC I think was/is a bot and only had our site listed as a link. Bots can be used for many things besides porn.

Edit: I acidentlly reported you. *sighs*

Maybe can try making it harder to register. You might even try hand aproval perhaps (but that is more work for you).

Ok it really is getting beyond a joke, there's three new spam threads and I could only report one because it only lets you report at intervals.

I am in favour of manual account activations though I understand that a) it will make more work for Shirle and b) I'm not the one beign effected by it.

Well is another option, more moderators to delete (or expanded abilities for me to delete). I have two suspects (bot posting) in OOC and deleted a thrid that was clearly spam.
The regerstration increases membership rolls , but not sure that is a good thing. We have perhaps 20 bots now as members if not more. It makes membership look more robust, but our traffic is staying about the same.

One bot posted two differenent times or perhaps that is manua user.

I'd volunteer for MOD duties, its not as if I have much of a life to distract me, and I log on just about every five minutes anyway when I'm not at school.

Be carefuk what you ask for. Moderation will be more then just apparent bots. In another place I was despised because I enforved the rules. it appeared that some users believe only newbies had to follow rules to the letter, that regs should be allowed to break at least a few rules once in a while. That site membership almost disappeared.

IAE it is up to Shirle as how to handle the problem. At this point in time I think regerstration should be made harder by requiring a gender or something else from the pull down menues as oposed to hand aproval of each request to join. I do not know current code status, nor do I know how good the bots are (if they all are bots).

I deleted the two suspect posts from OOC (the one you complained about and one from 5 days before that I waited to see if there was a followup).

I'm also deleting the accounts that post the spam. For the first few I left it there, but I'd much rather have accurate number of members that might be a little less "robust", than base the number of members on spam bots.

Anyway, part of the roblem for why this is taking so long is because I'm currently on holiday and only log in once every few days (and the first thing I do when I do is look at the reported pots and delete the spam). So until I get back home and have access to the code again (should be after Jan 8th) I just ask all of you to how a little patience and understanding and keep reporting the spam posts.

And again m apologies for the inconvenience.
