Misty Forest Sanctuary

Post by galadhion »

Hello all!

At this year's GenCon, several of us FR designers hosted a seminar where we discussed the future of the Realms. One of our big announcements was our intention to start putting "almost canon" products on the DM's Guild[/url:mdlncd5h]. These products would be written by some of us FR designers who love the Realms and all the Lore that goes with it. We're planning to create setting guides similar to the old 1e/2e supplements like FR1 [i:mdlncd5h]Waterdeep and the North[/i:mdlncd5h]. It's all unofficial, but we wanted to update the Realms to the 5e setting. Also, that writing itch is hard to kick.

Why does this affect people here? I co-wrote a book a while back called Menzoberranzan: City of Intrigue[/url:mdlncd5h]. It was woefully devoid of Eilistraee, because of the current state of FR lore at the time. That's changed and now our beloved Dark Maiden lives again!

The first setting I've chosen for the almost canon line is Eryndlyn, the drow city beneath the High Moor. It's more of a ruin now, but in the wreckage of the drow city I'm going to put a haven for Eilistraeeans. It's a way-stop for those seeking Rhymanthiin, the CIty of Hope, and an oasis of good in the otherwise dark and mostly evil Underdark. Lots of foes want to see it destroyed, and Eilistraee is still very weak. Her followers will need help. I even have the concept art for the cover.

At the GenCon seminar, I handed out a preview piece, titled the [i:mdlncd5h]Misty Forest Sanctuary[/i:mdlncd5h]. This 5-page locale description updates the legendary shrine in the Misty Forest to the modern 5e era. I did my best to capture the feel of 2e FR with the font choices and the layout. Ed Greenwood looked it over and gave it “two thumbs way up!" He did have a few changes which I made. He said the piece captured the feel of the Realms perfectly.

I'm going to make it available on the DM's Guild soon, but I wanted to make it available to all of you. You can download it here[/url:mdlncd5h] (click the download button on the right side on the linked page). I'll post more news as I have it! Please enjoy!

Thank you again, Eric. As I've already told you, I love your writeup of the Misty Forest shrine (and I'm grateful and flattered that you made it compatible with my pdf about Eilistraee). I'm really looking forward to this new Eryndlyn sourcebook. I think it's a perfect location to become a haven for followers of Eilistraee or drow seeking a better life: a place that was at one point a bastion of oppression and cruelty blossoms into a beacon of hope thanks to the touch of the Dark Maiden and her people :D

Now this is unexpected. Thanks a lot for this. Read and downloaded, and looking forward to anything new you may have to add to it. :)
