Fallout: New Vegas - Previews

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

As you might be aware Obsidian is working on Fallout: New Vegas. This is going to be a stand-alone game using Bethesda’s Fallout 3 engine (and from the reports much of the gameplay remains the same). Since Obsidian was formed by former Black Isle developers it is not surprising that people are excited to see what the original creators (or as close as we’re going to get) can do with the very successful Fallout 3.

Over the last couple of days a flood of reviews has surfaced, based on an event Obsidian held in Las Vegas to showcase their game in progress. Additionally I’ve got a couple of older articles as well that I had still lying around.

To start with there are a number of bullet-point lists with information gleaned from various magazines and such. I won’t go over them in detail as I think most of the information there is now available in the new previews as well, but if you’re hungry for every tiny little detail then there might be a thing or two still in there.

I’ll list them all here and try to give a brief description with each.

A fairly short, older article (probably months old, but the article doesn’t include a date) from USA Today. It’s more an introduction than containing any solid information on the game (though it has a few bits).

A short, almost two-month old, article that serves more as an introduction to try and make people want to read the full article in the Official Xbox Magazine. It’s mostly a couple of (low-res) screenshots from the game with some short accompanying text.

Here is where we start getting into the newer articles. About a week old this preview at Cheat Code Central has a few nice bits of information, though is overall fairly short. Includes a bullet-point list of features at the end.

The Escapist also has a fairly meaty preview at four pages and is also worth a read. And they link to [url=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/article ... e:2nk26mjy]a (text) interview with Feargus Urquhart[/url:2nk26mjy]. VG247 has a relatively short text interview with Chris Avellone about Fallout: New Vegas as well as a couple of general Obsidian questions. A decent read.[/*:m:2nk26mjy][/list:u:2nk26mjy]I’ve got a lot more, but I think I’ll just link those here instead of giving descriptions with all of them. They all come down to pretty much the same thing anyway and if you’ve read all (or even just some) of the above previews then you’re probably not going to learn anything new from reading these. Though in fairness I haven’t read all of them myself yet either.

In little over a month it’s E3 again so there might be some more previews then (though Bethesda has announced that it likely won’t have any big reveals at E3). But then I expect that for a lot of other games as well.

Either way, New Vegas looks like it could be fun (assuming that you enjoyed Fallout 3 because otherwise this one likely isn’t going to be to your taste either). Now I just have to decide whether I’d want to try hardcore mode or not (my guess... probably not).

Pre-ordered Fallout: New Vegas!

Post by Zylys Starharvest »

My hubby and I pre-ordered it, so the second we got it we started playing, immediately!

It is so much fun and very addictive (in a good way, of course!). I love the storyline/s so far. In this one you can also choose to have a female character, which I thought was very interesting and a fun concept to play with. :)

Now I'm just waiting for Dead Space 2! But it isn't out until January. :/ Ah well, I know the long wait will be well worth it. And I certainly know what my Amazon gift card is going towards! Haha.

Aaand it turns out that I can't play New Vegas because after a few minutes I get a pretty nasty Blue Screen of Death (which also makes me scared to even try playing it again). [i:2p0udqak]<sigh>[/i:2p0udqak] Guess I'll wait until I get a new PC (sometime next year I think).

Oh well. From what I hear the game is pretty good if rather buggy.

I played the game and completed it twice (for a different ending and completeing what i missed) and i greatly enjoyed it, each time.

Very fun game, i advice it to anyone who is interested in the Fallout universe :)
