Dragon Age: Origins - Mac & VGAs

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

As I already noted in the Mass Effect 2 new item earlier, last weekend were the Spike TV Video Game Awards. During a television show (in the states) the show lists the winners in each category, where the winner is decided on by the voting public online in advance. And though Mass Effect 2 missed out on the Most Anticipated Game award, Dragon Age: Origins won two awards. That is, it won both categories that it was in: Best PC Game[/url:8nqqfjl4] and Best RPG[/url:8nqqfjl4].

Though I must say that the VGAs are somewhat suspect as it didn't even list Dragon Age: Origins as an option for Game of the Year. Though I doubt that it would've won that (even if I think it should have) it would at least have been a contender.

The other big news is that BioWare announced Dragon Age: Origins for the Mac[/url:8nqqfjl4]. Thoguh I don't have a Mac this certainly is good news for those that do. Here's the news:
BioWare and the Dragon Age: Origins team are very pleased this morning to announce the upcoming release of Dragon Age: Origins for the Mac.

You can now pre-order the VGA “RPG of the Year” award winninng game for your Mac this holiday season. Both the Standard and Digital Deluxe versions will be available for download from these retailers:

- GameTree [url:8nqqfjl4]http://www.gametreeonline.com/[/url:8nqqfjl4]

- Direct2Drive [url:8nqqfjl4]http://www.direct2drive.com/[/url:8nqqfjl4]

- BestBuy [url:8nqqfjl4]http://www.bestbuy.com/[/url:8nqqfjl4]

- GamersGate [url:8nqqfjl4]http://www.gamersgate.com/[/url:8nqqfjl4]

- GameTap [url:8nqqfjl4]http://www.gametap.com/[/url:8nqqfjl4]

Standard Version includes Stone Prisoner and Blood Dragon Armor in your download.

Digital Deluxe Version includes Stone Prisoner, Blood Dragon Armor and Wardens Keep in your download.

Both versions are English only.[/quote:8nqqfjl4]
So not only will Dragon Age: Origins be available on the Mac; it'll be available this month (if it isn't already). :)

Then, though I still haven't even looked at the Toolset yet (though I did finally finish my first playthrough of the game itself last week; the end made me cry) BioWare have released a patch for the Toolset[/url:8nqqfjl4]. Though if you've already done work in the toolset you'll have to do some extra things to preserve your data (and best to make backups regardless) as detailed in the post:
Dec 10 Update:
A new version of the toolset has been posted for download. This is not a patch, it is a brand new installer. What this means is that YOU WILL LOSE YOUR EXISTING WORK IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW THE STEPS LISTED AT:http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolse ... _migration[/url:8nqqfjl4]

If you are upgrading from version 1.00 of this toolset and have database content that you wish to migrate into the new version, you will need to follow a special sequence of steps to preserve it. Builder-to-builder files (extension DADBDATA) are not compatible between the first released version of the toolset and subsequent versions. See http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolse ... _migration[/url:8nqqfjl4] for more details.

Please read the information found at http://social.bioware.com/wiki/datoolse ... he_toolset[/url:8nqqfjl4] for more details about how to install the toolset.

Oh, and by the way, this version contains the full single player database resources![/quote:8nqqfjl4]
And finally, since I'm writing this post anyway, over at Evil Avatar one of the admins has posted a review[/url:8nqqfjl4] of the game, one that's quite positive. Here's an excerpt:

[quote:8nqqfjl4]Dragon Age is not Mass Effect. It's not Knights of the Old Republic or Jade Empire either. While these most recent BioWare titles are great in their own right, it almost seemed as though as a studio they opted for a simplified approach, moving away somewhat from what made their games popular to begin with. So when the first information started coming out about Dragon Age: Origins, referring to it as the successor to Baldur's Gate 2, a lot of people including myself were very skeptical. It's time to douse that fear fire because Dragon Age: Origins is here to bring back the truly epic and heavy handed RPG, doing so with great gusto, no apologies, and complete awesome.[/quote:8nqqfjl4]
Well, there you go. I'll keep you updated of more news, though since I'm off on holiday starting this weekend probably not until next year (unless there's something interesting later this week). :)
