Dragon Age: Origins - First DLC Detailed

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

When Dragon Age: Origins hits stores next month it will already have downloadable content available, as GameStop reports[/url:j7xv5k5a]. Though in fairness we already knew what content this would be, we now have videos to accompany them as well as prices.

First is Warden's Keep, available for about $7 (though it's included for free in the Digital Deluxe version, and that version only). As GameSpot puts it:

[quote:j7xv5k5a]Called the Warden's Keep, the DLC will add a dungeon-based quest to the game along with six new abilities, a variety of items, and a base where players can trade with merchants. It will feature a supernatural storyline set in an ancient--and possibly haunted--fortress once used as a redoubt by the Grey Wardens, the ancient order at the center of Origins' main storyline.[/quote:j7xv5k5a]
And here's the trailer for this DLC:

Next up is The Stone Prisoner, which will be free for any new copy of the game (regardless of which version; boxed, digital, CE or Digital Deluxe). If you buy Dragon Age: Origins used and still want this DLC then it'll cost you about $15.

The Stone Prisoner adds a new companion to the game, with its own storyline, etc. Here's the trailer:

[center:j7xv5k5a]
<embed id="mymovie" width="432" height="362" flashvars="playerMode=embedded&movieAspect=4.3&flavor=EmbeddedPlayerVersion&skin=http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cn ... ight%3D362" wmode="transparent" allowscriptaccess="always" quality="high" name="mymovie" style="" src="http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/cn ... oteus2.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"/>
[/center:j7xv5k5a]
And finally there's the Blood Dragon Armor, which will similarly be available for free in all new copies of the game. This will add a new armor item for players to wear and, uniquely, will also add an armor item in Mass Effect 2 (if you get that game as well). Here's the trailer for this (also available on BioWare's site[/url:j7xv5k5a]):

In other news IGN also has an update, showing one of the creatures that the player can run into in Dragon Age: Origins, namely the Broodmother[/url:j7xv5k5a]. Here is IGN's full text, including the movie:

[quote:j7xv5k5a][b:j7xv5k5a]US, October 7, 2009[/b:j7xv5k5a] - In previous articles, we've mentioned the potential dangers of roaming the land of Ferelden, the realm players will explore in BioWare's upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: Origins[/url:j7xv5k5a]. We're not talking about wolves, skeletons or giant rats either; instead, the Darkspawn, a race of malevolent creatures, want to infest and destroy the human, dwarven and elven civilizations completely. However, the hordes of these evil humanoid creatures aren't the only threats that can potentially kill Grey Wardens in the course of your adventures. Rumors have spread throughout the lands of mythical beasts and horrific monsters that are potentially even worse than the Blight itself.

Today, we bring you the first details of the Broodmother, a nightmarish creature spoken of in hushed, terrified whispers in the subterranean halls of the Dwarves. Continually battling with the underground dwelling Darkspawn, the dwarves have sacrificed much of their empire to the hordes of beasts. Every now and then, knowing that the source of Darkspawn corruption lies outside the doors of the Dwarves, parties of Grey Wardens venture deep into ancient abandoned Dwarven tunnels, trying to crush their enemy on their own territory. The few that were lucky to return to safety seemed mentally broken by the experience, feverishly mentioning tales about a disturbing beast known only as a Broodmother. What the Broodmother is, and what it is doing underground is a complete mystery. However, one thing does stand out across all these stories –- its insatiable hunt and hunger for Grey Warden flesh.[/quote:j7xv5k5a]
Finally a quick note on the Sacred Ashes video I reported on previously. Apparently the version that found its way online was an unfinished version and was thus taken down. BioWare has noted that the finished version will be made available once it's actually finished.
