Dragon Age: Origins - Choices and Consequences

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

IGN has an article up titled "Choices and Consequences[/url:kllofx7a]" illustrating some of the choices you have to make and the subsequent consequences in Dragon Age: Origins. Though note that the article contains some spoilers as to the choices you make in one of the cities in Dragon Age: Origins, I don't think that it's anything particularly major.

Here's a (spoiler free) excerpt:

[quote:kllofx7a]Bioware is hoping to break players of these limits in their upcoming RPG, Dragon Age: Origins[/url:kllofx7a] by eliminating the morality scale that places a character's ethical progression on a good/bad meter. Instead, whenever you come to a conversation with a potential moral dilemma, you're presented with a variety of choices. None of the choices are particularly tinged with any principles that you need to follow or avoid for a particular overall goal; you are given free reign to act however you want in a situation. As a result, you feel as though you're free to act based on what you feel is appropriate to that incident and the characters you're talking to. That's not to say that you won't have to deal with consequences of your actions, because specific decisions that you make will affect the world and characters around you, either resulting in an immediate impact or setting in motion items that would be resolved later. These consequences will also affect your immediate party, potentially improving or destroying your relationships with them outright.[/quote:kllofx7a]
The article comes with two movies which illustrate some of those choices and consequences. Note that as such both movies can be consider minor spoilers (as they spoil not only the choices, but some of the consequences as well ;) ):

Some other Dragon Age bits include a new creature page for the Abomination[/url:kllofx7a] on the official site, including screenshots, concept art and a short movie. Here is the description for these creatures:

[quote:kllofx7a]Although most people enter the Fade only as dreamers, leaving with scarce memory of their experience, mages are able to walk the Fade completely aware of their surroundings. Demons are drawn to these mages, and will always attempt to possess a mage upon encountering one. Whether they do so by force or by proposing a deal depends entirely on the strength of the mage. If the demon gets the upper hand, an unholy union known as an abomination results. The creature gains access to the host's innate magical talent and amplifies it, turning even a modest apprentice into a force of destruction. Entire squads of templars have been known to fall at the hands of a single abomination, so the Chantry takes its duty in overseeing magic users very seriously indeed.[/quote:kllofx7a]
And finally there's the third page of the Penny Arcade comic[/url:kllofx7a]. Check it out. :)
