GameSpy Dragon Age Builder Interviews

Post by Shir'le E. Illios »

Continuing with more coverage of the Dragon Age Builder Event GameSpy put up [url=http://uk.pc.gamespy.com/pc/dragon-age/ ... 8:1e94lci8]an article[/url:1e94lci8] with interviews with both BioWare staff and community members.

Here's an excerpt:

[quote:1e94lci8][b:1e94lci8]GameSpy:[/b:1e94lci8] Can we close with some details on your new community site, which you've described as "Facebook meets Sourceforge?"

[b:1e94lci8]Fernando Melo:[/b:1e94lci8] It's actually really exciting. There are two halves that we really missed out on with Neverwinter. With the builder community, everything was being posted on the NWVault site. Effectively, what we were saying was that we had forums and community, but if you wanted to find content, you had to go elsewhere. Now, we're trying to create a one-stop shop.

As a player, if you're not concerned at all about extra content, you can be completely oblivious that the builder side even exists. It'll feel a little like Facebook, in that you can track what other people are up to, and there's feeds going on, and you can track your friends, and tag things, and so on. The cool part comes in the connectivity to the games, from Dragon Age right to the website. So you can see things like your characters, your stats, your story in the game, and other people can see that.

Someone who picked the same origin story, and followed the same steps, can still see big differences in your experience, including screenshots that the game will take automatically as your story progresses.[/quote:1e94lci8]
It's a good read and looks like that, for those enthusiastic about custom content and such, the Dragon Age Toolset is going to be a very powerful and yet usable tool.

Also note that for the time being BioWare has closed down their social networking site as it was never intended to be opened up to the public just yet. It's just too unfinished at this time.
