[Narsia Ny'Dhun]

Kilkelly, Ireland.

A heart wrenching song that tells the story of an Irish emigrant in America through a series of letters from his father back in Kilkelly. Its five verses cover a period between of thirty-two years, 1860-1892.

The song was written by brothers Stephen and Peter Jones, based on letters from their great-great-grandfather, Bryan Hunt, to his son John, their great-grandfather. As Bryan was illiterate, the letters were actually written by the local schoolmaster, Patrick MacNamara, who had been a friend of John's.


Songs like this are what I consider true music to be about, the emotions they invoke in people. I will not lie by saying that this song did not make me cry, and I continue to listen to it on repeat in spite of that. I hope you all enjoy it.
